I tried a 7 grand Alembic in The Gallery once. Great fun. Not worth 7 grand of my money though.
I think this guy is so underrated
I agree that he was an awesome player and a huge influence on everything that came after him but there's no way the guy is underrated. He's highly rated by almost everyone. Just check out the thread below about bass players of the 70s.

You could get one of the small Line 6 combos. They have an emulation of the Ampeg B-15N. You could plug headphones in too.

I don't drink so I'll be alright. No seats, eh? May have to barge my way to the front.

Like I said, it looks cute but I bet it sounds huge. Acme do 1 x 10 cabs as well. In theory I could get three of them and hook up one each. It'd be the right kind of power output for each one. I was planning on getting one anyway. I'll see if I can convince the keyboard player to get two more. Now I'm wondering if there might be a way to hook up the different inputs on the front so that each signal goes to a different speaker output. I'm thinking 1. Bass, 2. Keyboard A, 3. Keyboard B/Acoustic Guitar. Hmm... Definitely an interesting head. I'm just thinking about how I can get best use out of it.

Just bought two tickets. No idea of the seating plan though. Row N.

That's a cute (and presumably pretty potent) rig. I just... I'd like to be able to pump 435 valve watts into one of Acme 2x10s. I think that would sound monstrous.
-
Two things: first off, has anyone ever used one of these? I've just been given the opportunity to purchase one. Second thing: it puts out 435 watts - but it puts out 145 on each of its 3 speaker outputs separately. Only if a different cab is connected to each of the 3 speaker outputs does it put out the total 435 watts. My question is how do I get all of that output into one cab. Have a look at the answer to question 10 on this page: http://www.timeelect.com/400-faq.htm#1.%20...%20the%20400-PS Any help guys? EDIT: I've only been given a chance to buy the head - not the cab.

I can't decide whether to get the Telecaster table or the Stratocaster table. The Tele is more practical because it's a more useable shape - but then the Strat is just that bit more indulgent and decadent because it's so impractical. I'd rather get the full on all-maple deluxe model than the standard model. This is what happens to you when you get divorced in your 20s! I'm also after a dining table/pool table. Oh dear. The Star bass looks like their attempt at actually using all the work they put into Jack Bruce's Cream reunion Gibson EB3-inspired bass and applying it to the semi-acoustic Gibson basses.

Not really in the same league - these are more boys' toys that you really don't need and that really are sad (but are secretly very cool). http://www.overkilldesign.com/products.php...d=4&image=1
get your guitarists to give up some of their lows - all too often inexperienced guitarists set their EQ so they fill up both the bass and guitar sonic space, not realising that most of the great guitar sounds don't have very much bottom at all.
Yeah, that guitar sound may work great on record but really gets in the way live. Especially if you have a keyboard player too.

Ordered. Stuff arrived soon after. No problems.

The simple answer to why you call it an E double sharp is that you already have one F in the scale and it is sharp. It just makes notation easier. (Although that many sharps will just look ugly). The simple answer to why you call a note a diminished 7th as opposed to a major 6th is because the former forms the 7th note of the corresponding scale and the latter the 6th note. The fact that you play E double sharp in exactly the same place as F, or the diminished 7th or major 6th in exactly the same place, on a practical level does not mean that learning about harmony - and the different contexts of a diminished 7th and a major 6th - is not useful. As tension and release form a big part of how music is put together it can be helpful to understand the different tensions and resolutions of a diminished 7th and a major 6th. (I think all of this has been said above).

Compact poweramp to accompany my EBS MicroBass II?
The Funk replied to s_u_y_*'s topic in Amps and Cabs
I've been thinking about this for a while. In the end I've decided to get an Eden WTX-260 instead of a power amp for my EBS MicroBass II. It'll be here next week. It's slightly larger than the first option mentioned above but overall it should be smaller than the EBS + power amp. -
Are tickets on sale yet?
-
Ah, thanks for that. So with plenty of Vd, there's a large surface area of the cone pushing air and a decent amount of movement of the cone without distortion? Did I understand that correctly?

Did anyone ever tape the musicians channel??
The Funk replied to Jamesemt's topic in General Discussion
There were a couple of different series on the musicians channel. The series I saw had some beardy bloke being taught to play bass. There was definately slap involved!!
Beardy bloke? Must have missed that. I only remember the vaguely attractive but not really bimbette they had. -
Was there much useful information?
In a word, no. The "lessons" were quite entertaining in a Beavis & Butthead-type way. I once sat there laughing with some other musicians while we watched a guy explain to the half-attractive half-wit presenter how to plug a microphone cable into a microphone... for half an hour! -
Ok. Sorry, I get what Xmax is but what's Sd?
