Show some love for the criminally underrated (unless you know, then you know) FTB. Please like and share his vid if you appreciate it.

The big guitar starts just after 9 minutes.

I was lucky enough to have lessons with Fred almost 15 years ago. I remember walking into my first lesson with anticipation after reading a byline article many years before in Bassist about this underrated bass player that had a cassette demo of him playing Pachabels canon in multiple parts with harmonics. Needless to say this man could do that and much more.

    Enjoy

Why go boutique when you can go Boss and for a fraction of the price? 😁

As a longtime user of OC2 many many years ago (why did I sell it...well I sold everything and didn't play for some time) and the dilemma what to go for now I'm so glad I went with the OC5 in the end. The down and up sounds are both as I wanted/like. Wonderful pedal that I can see myself enjoy for many many more years.

For the money it's almost a no brainer compared to the competition!

Basically this.  When i reminded myself how much I liked my OC2 and started looking at the more boutique offerings I feltt his was the way to go.  I have a budget to treat myself for birthday so this way maybe get 2 pedals vs 1! :) Now the search for the right envelope filter begins...

  4. Completely agree. I ended up here as after a year or so trying to get same in grey. I finally thought it was sorted via bass direct. Checked like 6pm one day and 9.05am next day went to buy and they were gone.

So stretched to get the two cabs so this doesn't happen. I don't use 15in and I think my days of 2 4*10 stack or similar have gone. So this gives me 3 formats to play with that also max out the ag700 anyway so should be everything I need.

Supposedly the 'only' 2*10 ordered to UK but I'm actually guessing it's just the first.

Also Bass Direct have some deals on the purple but I just preferred the green.

I wish they did the blue bossa for the 212 too as love that colour.

  5. That was it. Yes I realised just after about the distorted nature of sound...

At the moment I'm now being swayed back to the OC5 after seeing a quick video of it being played on instagram. I had an OC2 for years and regretted getting rid of it...

  6. Thanks both. The pre really is excellent and pairs really well with the Nordstrand. I play with a very very low action and this bass is so smooth.

Tbh I got a saving on the GWB1 which is the only reason this needs to go and happy to make this a deal if anyone wants it. Appreciate its not immaculate condition as it's been played but images represent it fairly and as always don't affect the sound.

  7. Can't see where anyone else has mentioned these? After years of lusting over an Aguilar rig I finally went to get a Dorian Grey setup but missed out by what felt like minutes, then this was teased...so I held out and have ordered the middle setup: SL112 and SL212. They come Jan/End of Feb to UK shipping pending...I'll do actual product photos and comments then.

Anyone else thinking of going for one of these?

  9. I'm really enjoying Daniel Camarda's solo sound that he programmes in Max/MSP with a mix of delay, pitch shifting and delay and speed up pitch shifted samples of the sound.

Are there any they analog pedals out there that do things like this to consider:

    https://banananaeffects.com/products/aurora

I really like the Meris Hedra for pitch and delay but it doesn't do the speed up sound and am about to go for it but ideall it would cover the sampling and speed up aspect too.

Anyone like Avalanche or Chase Bliss or more niche pedal companies out there do similar you think I should check out?

  10. I'm still toying between this, A micro POG or Octabvre. Appreciate the latter only goes lower. If I went that route I was tempted by a whammy to go 'up'.

I really want to be able to go down or up or both together. I saw a boutique octaver that looked like it was built like a tank, memory says it was basically bare metal, that did this but can't for the life of me recall its brand or name. Anyone?

So pending that OC5 is top of list for sounds but not ideal for preferred switching options.

May as well throw this in...

Ibanez ANB306. A beautiful beast in all capacities.

I really have a thing for the Signature Ibanez basses....I'd love all of the non-rock focused ones. Especially the ANB205 and TCB1006.

Still got my 30th Anni SR4 and 1305 Premiums, but would like to add a fretless Ibby.

I was looking at the SR370EF cheapie and the SH500F, but can't make my mind up. I see they do a Bass Workshop with both mags and active EQ plus the Piezo Aero Silk system, but as well as being out of my price range, it has no fret lines 😢

So apart from the price, Is there plenty of mwah from them as they come, or is it the usual cut the nut until the strings are on the board ?

I'm into the usuals: Pino (circa Paul Young etc), Jaco, Mo Foster, John Giblin etc. So that's the kind of sound I'm looking (sans that lot's talent and feel of course 😊)

    So pros and cons ?

I'm biased but you can't go wrong with a GWB35, I've played a few of them since released (only selling as I got a GWB1) and happy to talk cost:

Not sure what your budget is but this is on Reverb and I have a fretted version I love and generally have a great sound:

Quality bass. I had a GWB35 and that was pretty damned good, so I always fancied a 'full fat' one, but other basses came calling (as they do). A photo of the buckle rash would be welcome, as you have piqued my interest.

It's bad...but for £600 for an original GWB1 in hardcase with perfect neck and electronics. I can take it.

  14. The Pandemic has been good because it got me back into bass playing but it's been bad as it's got be in bass buying...it started as an idea to try a short scale and mod it a bit...

    1.Ibanez TMB35 (new)...try short scale

2.Aguilar AG 5P-JHC (as new from BC member)

3.Straplocks and new pickguard for the above to have fun with mod project

4.Ibanez SRH505 DEF (used from Bass Direct)...as I thought I had sold my piezo Bolin but wanted something still with that sound for jazz and being cheaper was a good thing

5.Ibanez EHB1506MS (used but as new from BC member) - because...I used to always play 6 string before I was solely 5 string...

6.Aguilar SL112 and SL212 in Poseidon Green (to arrive next year via Bass Direct)...as I haven't had my own bass rig in about 10 years

7.Aguilar SL112 in black (hardly used from BC member)...as I wanted something to get me through next few months until the new rig comes

8.Aguilar AG700 (as new from BC Member)...as when I bought the temporary SL112 they mentioned they may have one to sell, so that completed the stack quicker than expected

9.Ibanez 2003 GWB1 (reverb store)...as I realised this was all getting a bit out of hand decided to sell my GWB35 so went searching for sale prices and as I did someone had this for sale thinking it was a GWB35 too so was a great price. So for 20 years I wanted an OG GWB I went for it.

That's where lockdown purchases end and maybe I'm just catching up on past 10 years of lack of activity :)

So I have 2 basses for sale ready to go out and tbh if they do there is one more for sale on here that I would really really like (suprise it's an Ibanez). And I'm also trying to convince myself I don't need any pedals like I used to: octave, envelope filter.
