1. Introduced at Namm this year, the Gerald Veasley signature model 6 string.

I'm really interested in trying one of these, although I know it would be far more than I would want to spend on it.

14mm spacing!?!

2. Wow, Exactly the same as my bass too. Good luck with the sale as I think this is a very good price.

These are nice all round sounding basses, hard workers and not too heavy.

I don't suppose you either bought it off ebay or were selling it on ebay before xmas? As I saw an identical one on there just before xmas.

As I said above, offers welcome.
3. Hello

I've finally (and slightly reluctantly) decided to sell my double bass.

The bass is a German 3/4 flatback, believed to be from the Mittenwald area.
Has real purfling.
Neck was damaged at some point many years ago but seems to have been repaired in the 60's in England (There is a slight scribble to this effect on the inside). As such one of the tuners also does not match.
Believed to be approx 100-120 years old.
Professionally set up over a year ago with a new adjustable bridge. Currently very low and the bridge isn't really carved for arco worked.
Fairly new Spirocore Weich strings
Gage Realist pickup installed when the bridge was installed.
Has what I feel is a lovely, GREAT sound for jazz. Must be played and heard. (The only recorded example I have is a very small piece at this site of film composer Greg Harwood in the audio and then other music section. The track is called "The End - Modern Jazz Cue")
Does NOT come with case/bag.

Approximate Measurements:
Full Length = 72"
Body Length = 42"
Scale Length = 42"
Upper Bout = 21"
Lower Bout = 26"
Scroll to Shoulder = 31 3/4"
Width at Nut = 1 5/8"

Looking for offers in region of £3250 £3000 £2900

I'm more than happy to answer any questions you may have either by PM, email to [email protected] or by phone (Message me for number).

Cheers

Mikey

Note: First picture was from the previous seller. Setup, general overhaul, pickup added and new strings added since. Rest of the photos taken 11/01/10

4. There is a good summary of the transcription process here: Dave Liebman is one bad mutha

I personally use this way as when I transcribe something it is because I like what they are doing and I want to be able to do what I'm listening to. So it takes you through what to do with the transcription once you have it down and want to get aspects of it into your own playing.

There are a few other good educational articles on his site also.

5. I am going to be selling my double bass but I need to put a fair price on it, so would be looking to get it valued by someone reputable or in the absence of being able to do that come up with a ball park figure. I've had various professionals play it and comment on it and its worth which I have kept in mind, but want a more considered price by someone who really knows about these things.

The bass is a German 3/4 flatback most likely from the Mittenwald area. Has real purfling. Neck was damaged at some point but was repaired in the 60's in England and as such one of the tuners also does not match. Approx 100-120 years old. Has what I feel is a lovely great sound for jazz. Professionally set up over a year ago with a new adjustable bridge, new Spirocore Weich strings and a Gage Realist pickup and a general once over.

I am based in Milton Keynes.

Any recommendations? Anyone in the know on here passing through MK?

6.
I thought you had ordered it from Thoman? Do they not have it then? Or are you waiting to buy it in the UK to get the warranty? I was hoping for a review by now! :)
I was going to, but they was made a very good offer by a uk retailer that saves quite a bit of money. Although I am tempted now to just pay the extra and get it sooner, although, It would appear Thomann don't actually have it in stock yet either! I think the first company I see that physically has it I'll get it, bored of waiting.

I wouldn't mind so much but I sold my phil jones suitcase stack with the intention of getting a new amp and am now ampless.

7.
I recently saw a bloke who was supporting my band playing an ibanez bass through a huge ashdown. Whether it was the bass or the amp I dunno but the tone was colossial. Just absolutely huge sound, very detailed. As a Jazz bass man that really changed my view of their basses.
I did a gig down in London recently and used the house ashdown stack with my Ibanez GWB35. I was absolutely amazed at the sound I got on stage, as until then I had only ever played through 1*10"s combos. Although the electronics aren't ibanez.

I need to get me a stack.

8. His band is scheduled to play a Birmingham Jazz gig on Friday 23rd October at Symphony Hall in the foyer. A free gig that starts at 5.30 usually.

I'm probably going to finish work early to get up to Birmingham to see it. I played a support slot to him once and I loved his playing.
