1.
People have been "hanging out" with each other for years now. Is the only new thing about it in this context that it applies to the ammount of intoxicants consumed? Or is there nothing new about it?

Ta for the explaination!
See, I don't mind "hanging out". However I seem to not like the phrases "going for a hang", "it was a great hang man", "Fancy a hang soon?" and other such variants. The "hang" doesn't seem to just be about booze and drugs though. If it was, I would "nail" the first part.

But at the end of the day if people like wayne krantz, chris potter and keith carlock wanted a hang, I'd be there.

2. My pet hate is "I need to shed", "Get some shedding in" or "It was a great hang" and do you "fancy a hang later?". Most likely there are other "Hip" NY jazz player words/phrases that annoy me also. I don't think I would mind if it wasn't some geeky 18 year old English kid who has just started playing jazz and is only using the words as it makes them more "hip".

3.
It's a shame that if I played you Soundgarden's Superunknown you'd pull a face like a six year old with a mouthful of asparagus.
Which reminds me of one of my favourite 'jazz' bands around at the moment:

4. My friend knows I play 5 string exclusively and got me a lot of these strings. I'm very grateful...unfortunately I'm a picky bugger.

I play with a high C. D'oh. So I could use them, get rid of the b and buy c's where needed. Or just change the bottom 4...and have a dull high c.

Probably the better idea is to sell them and buy the Warwick black label 5 with the high c as they are the only strings I have actually used for the past couple of years on my bass anyway.

I have:

2X

for £5 a pack including postage

2x

for £5 pack including postage

I also have a 3-pack of the xlight sets for £12 including postage.

£30 the lot.

All items brand new and unopened. If outside the UK I'm sure it won't be much more.

5. The one last year was excellent and much appreciation to 'Nas' for putting it on. I would love to come along this time if it fits in with why weekends off. Nearer the end of June is better than nearer the start of June for me.

6. I practice my 1 octave scales/modes in the first 2 "positions" you mention as I find they are the most useful.

I also practice them in a shifting manner with 4 notes per string.

So for A major:
E-string: finger 1-fret 5 (A), [shift] finger 1-fret 7 (:), finger 3-fret 9 ( C# ), finger 4-fret 10 (D),
A-string: finger 1-fret 7 ( E ), [shift] finger 1-fret 9 (F#), finger 3-fret 11 (G#), finger 4-fret 12 (A)

I also practice all my scales in 2 and 3 octaves (or up to the top not I can reach of the scale) in this manner, as well as the two "positions" you mentioned first. Sometimes it is easier to play three notes on a string if the shift is an awkward one. I also practice these in conjunction with my T-I-M-R technique on my right hand.

Oh my word...
WANT!

I've been looking for a fretted 5 to go with my GWB35 and that looks nice, but I don't really have a need as such for a fretted bass as I really love my GWB35 so much i sold all my other basses (minus my upright)

I suppose here is another good place to show off my only bass:

GWB35 (upgraded with a nordstrand dual coil and Bee Pre) bought from a Talkbass user early last year.

8. In the past I "wasted" many an hour learning basically all the pieces mentioned above and more. To this day I still remember a few, but only really play Hair when I get on someones fretted bass because I love the groove and "U can't hold no groove" when a non musician friend asks me to play slap bass. Only having a fretless with a ramp stops this naughty habit...

But there were benefits gained such as improved left and right hand technique including string skipping, a not bad slap technique for when it's required, good string dampening...although most of these would have been learnt playing anything I suppose.

The main downside I see of when I learnt those pieces was the amount of times I would play them/work on them instead of pushing myself and learning something new. I still fall into that trap occasionally playing the same exercises when I know I have them nailed convincing myself I need to keep them under my fingers, but when I could be working on new things.

In hindsight, I wish I had spent that time transcribing and learning/applying the things I've finally got round to looking at (in the scheme of things) recently (melodic minor harmony, jazz improvisation, time, tone, walking lines) generally, musicianship.

9. Just learn this :) :
This is a minor second and
This is a perfect fourth
This is a major second and
This is a perfect fifth
This is a major sixth and
This is a minor sixth

Minor third, Minor third
Major third, Major third
Unison

This a major seventh and
This is minor seventh and
Here's an augmented fourth and
This is an octave

That's the Interval Song
That's the Interval Song....
10. Does anybody have any good jazz/funk charts from Herbie's Secrets, Manchild or Thrust Album?

I already have actual proof and the Paul Jackson bass grooves page from www.lucaspickford.com.

Hoping to get lead sheets/parts for Palm Grease/Spank-a-lee or Spider/Sanshimo Shima/Swamp Rat or Doin it.

Please...no watermelon man or cantaloupe island!

Yes I could transcribe them, but I only have a couple of hours to get some charts together and I am at work.

Cheers for any help.
