  1. I can recommend a TecAmp Puma 900 as @Paul S mentions, very light and compact. 600w at 8 ohms and the full 900 at 4 ohms obviously. Very clean and clear, I use it with both my Barefaced set ups. Comes in its own little handbag too 😂

The new equivalent is the Eich T-900 I think. I think you can still pick up the Puma relatively cheap second hand.

  2. I play in 2 bands and dep with a couple of others from time to time. 1 rehearses regularly but mostly recordes rather than plays live, the other plays for fun, rehearses once a month and gigs a couple of times a year.

I did play in 6 (function bands to backing singer songwriters) at one time when I was working part time and was single, I had very few commitments so rehearsing most nights of the week was not a problem for me then.

  3. I use the 760FS Gold flats, they give more mids than the standard 760 but the trade off is slightly lower output because of the "gold alloy" wrap.

They've been on my main P bass for 3 years so far and I'm sure I'll get many more years out of them.

As others have said Welcome to flats and enjoy!

  4. I play sitting down for all gigs now, I used to stand up for bigger gigs but also had to think about keeping my balance/not falling over (due to disability).

I use a K&M drum throne with a back and foot rest, no one in the bands that I play in or have played have questioned it. In the end its the music and enjoyment that counts.

  5. I switched to flats 5 years ago and have been enjoying them ever since (La Bella  or GHS mostly, I never liked the zing of rounds or the string noise, not my thing at all.

I do use NPS rounds on fretless but it is an overall softer sound.

I always have the tone full up on my P and tend to cut through just fine, I aim for somewhere between a woody and gritty sound.

  6. I've been using flats for 6+ months now, many people say they sound dull or dead, but it all depends how you E.Q and you play.
The other advantage for me is that they are much easier to play being smooth and higher tension.

I use a P bass with flats in a Soul/Funk/Motown band a Country Rock band and a Blues band and it does everything I need it to.

Sounds like he put a new set of strings on! Bass seems to have lost a bit of mid-range "authority" to my ears. It sounds more "modern" and "hi-fi" with the Thumpers IMO. Neither of which are sounds that I associate with a P bass!

Looks like a new set of strings too. Black silks to no silk?

Like others have said, increased clarity of top and bottom end but the mid seems to have dropped out. The sound has gone in the wrong direction for me.

  8. My 3 precision basses.
Had the black one for a long time, modded with new pickups, brass nut, gotoh 201. Lots of growl!
The Squier VM 5 is stock other than swapping the bridge for a chunkier version, picked up the sunburst Squier yesterday, 97' put some flats on it, shoved some foam under them, loving the tone..
