I have an AVT 275 on sale for £225. I can't find the product on the Marshall website - presumably it's been discontinued - so here's some info on it. It has 4 channels - acoustic simulator, clean and overdrives 1 & 2. It is a 'valvestate' amp. I believe they have a pre-amp valve for warmth and a valve tone without being all valve. It has numerous effects. It literally has about 9 different reverbs! It's in very good condition despite me having gigged it a lot. I could get this amp to fill a big hall without even having to go through a PA so it is good for volume. 2 x 75 watt 12" speakers. I am selling my Marshall 'Triple Super Lead' 2 x 12 all valve combo. It is really nice. It is in perfect working order but has some superficial damage. A few grazes etc. from the many gigs it's done over the years. The Clean channel is great (slightly surprisingly for a Marshall). It is capable of getting quite a fender-esque clean tone. Of course the other two channels - crunch and lead - are typically Marshall, giving that classic Marshall distortion sound. But it can also do the more modern high gain stuff really well. Despite it having so many features, the front and back panels are laid out in a really simple and easy to use way Selling in order to fund my next bass rig. Okay, so a bass playing forum probably isn't the best place to look for a drummer. But it's always worth asking just in case I suppose. I'll tell you what, the jaguar is a masterpiece of marketing. It looks cool, and if you plug it in in the store the active eq sounds amazing. However if you buy one, which I did, you'll almost certainly find that on the active setting it won't fair well in a mix. I really hated the EQ on mine and started using it on passive. It was a slight improvement. It was still very muddy. To answer your question on "parallel" it sounds unbelievably thin and will not cut through, and series will help you to cut through, but don't expect a lovely sound from it, as it's pretty muddy on that. The jaguar was my second bass and I played it for a year. I found it very heavy, a real pain to do a long gig with it on my shoulder. About 6 months after buying when I really learnt the bass' limitations I was really frustrated with it. Also you may find that the cutaway isn't that good if you want to play in the upper register. When I finally got another bass I was so relieved. In fact I picked up my jag for the first time in a while the other day and it felt like such a clumsily made bass compared to the one I use now. Also to get the jaguar anywhere near playable I had to pay out for a bad ass bridge. I would have bought new pickups too had I not concluded that it was a lost cause. Oh! And I almost forgot to mention the numerous dead and buzzing frets, even with high action!! Sorry to be a downer, just felt I had to contribute my (largely painful) experiences with the jaguar. It seems to me a lot of people buy guitars and basses in a shop when they're not set up & the playing experience in the shop with just the instrument on its own is different to how it is when you actually have the instrument in a band situation, on a gig, in a mix, where it's really a whole different kettle of fish. Mmm, fish. And it really takes a long time to get "into" a bass (in my experience) and really see its flaws and, occasionally, what's good about it. A half hour or less in a shop really tells us little. -C.

First departure into Double Bass....advice

Ah you guys are all saying the things I've been painfully aware of! I feel like I should get an acoustic so I can learn properly. I feel like an electric might just give me a wholly unsatisfying pale imitation... But I doubt I can transport the double bass, my guitarists' needlessly large amp and the needlessly large drum kit all in that punto! I wouldn't be so fussed about getting it to gigs early on anyway, just having it to play at home would be enough for me. Then, maybe one day, we'll get a large van and I'll be good enough by then to justify bringing it! Yes I am convinced an acoustic is the best option, right? Am I right? Right? Time to start saving up the pennies for it then! -
Okay, I am sick of electric bass. I desperately want to play ARCO! An acoustic Double Bass would be too big to fit in my guitarist's little fiat punto, although I'd love to get one some day.... So I'm thinking of investing in an Electric Upright. I can't exactly afford a brilliant, top of the line one as I am financially challenged. I guess my budget is between £0 (ideal!) and £1000 (TOO FAR.) I have only just taken my first step into this exciting new world, in fact I have only snook a tiny peak. I am lost and confused, so any help, advice, suggestions, warnings, insults etc. are welcome. Thanks, -Changles.

Here's My recently received Zoot Chaser. I love it! Swampash body with quilted honey maple top. The line dividing the two woods is a thin slice of ebony. 3 piece neck, maple and bubinga. Birdseye maple fingerboard. Passive electronics (vol, vol, tone) Straplocks Seymour Duncan Basslines pickups. Hot jazz pickup and Music Man pickup. The MM pickup has a handy bi-tone switch which gives it a slightly tinnier sound or a more full fat one. And last but not least Dean Markley nickel plated blue steel strings. Fine strings they are.

The bass came the other day, and it is great! It plays like a dream, and looks even better in the flesh (in the wood?). It's very bright as you'd expect with all that maple on there, but it gets a really nice mellow tone too when I roll off the tone control. The jazz pickup is nice and warm and the MM pickup is intense. Really glad I ordered the Chaser. I really like how I've paid less for this than I would for an American Fender, Gibson or Music Man etc. It's something a bit different! (And better.) I'm very happy!

Hey everyone, remember me? So, because of a few time-consuming complications Mike was forced to crack on with making this bass without taking the time out to take pictures, but here are a few of it very near completion that he sent me the other day. Basically he just needs to add a string bar, carve the nut and do the final set up! Ah, beautiful! I cannot wait to play this bass!

MORE PICTURES! It seems to be moving pretty fast! Here's the neck stuff: 3 piece neck made from bubinga and Canadian rock maple. Nice. Thorough clamping! Beautiful headstock shape!

Mike sent me these the other day of the body progressing. Now he just needs to do the final sanding, waxing and fitting up. He gets the neck to a similar stage first though so he can do both together. He's made a start on the neck, but no pictures of that yet.

I am looking to get my theory up to scratch, mainly, seeing as my technique is flawless! Haha, no it is very flawed, I'm sure. But I'm definitely looking for more theory tutoring nonetheless. I want grade 8 kind of knowledge! So I was thinking is there a bass tutor out there in Harrogate who knows their theory through and through too? Thanks, Charles.

Here is the same block of wood from a different angle. At least, I'm pretty sure it's the same! There's Mike, doing what he does best, I'm guessing. Here is the book matched quilted honey maple top that is going on top of the swampash body. I think it looks amazing. And of course the MM humbucker Swampash body there. I love the Zoot Bass shape! It's very.. elegant.
