2.
Problem is we just played at about 40bpm between 3 grindcore bands (one minute 160bpm songs).
i always feel that grindcore and doom bands complement each other perfectly at gigs - one band's set lasts 10 minutes, the other's an hour - evens things out!!!!
  3.

the very definition of 'forlorn'
  4. there's something i'm a bit unclear about all this which maybe someone could clear up, tho i think it was touched on in an earlier post: there have been a few suggestions that the seller shouldnt have sent the bass until the money was recieved. why? let's assume for a minute that both parties start off equal and innocent, each with goods of equal value (cash and a bass); somebody has to take the first step. one party has to make a decision to trust the other person and give them their goods without knowing they will recieve the other's. are there different laws governing buyer and seller? also, if this happened face to face would we consider the matter differently? scenario: buyer meets seller, each holding their goods. both agree to exchange. buyer hands seller money. seller takes money and runs off. surely this is theft, or at least fraud? i can't see how the above scenario is fundamentally different than from lemmy's dilemna, unless there is a difference legally between the buyer and the seller.
  5. hi man, sorry wasnt back in touch, just to say i'll have to leave the dd3 for the noo till i see what my money for the month is like, went pedal-tastic recently!
  6. ooooh, i want the pickle pie for my geetar, i'll maybe be back in touch if my girlfriend's student loan comes through, hehehe!!!!
  7. i notice that he's been on the forum today at 4.52. really poor show, the least he could do would be to pm lemmy if he's embarrassed and deal with it all in private.
  8.
This guy has a beard, and judging by his avatar, could pass for Chuck Norris. Good plan.
hehe, my girlfriend will be amused. joking aside, that's maybe an issue, i really dont mean to be threatening at all, quite the opposite in fact. still, if you want me to contact him just get in touch, i'm ashamed that someone from glasgow's giving us a worse name than we already have!!!!
  9. i live pretty near there. i'd be more than happy to pop round and explain the situation to him. and i don't mean this in a threatening way at all, just maybe a face-to-face will shame him into relenting?
  10. tho ur mentioning portability, here's a cracker from our own site if you're anywhere near guilford: link
  11.
Maintenance stuff like this, we're better off doing it ourselves.
still no word from these jokers, yeah i wonder if there's a tube amp course i could take in glasgow?
  12. nice, thanks for the info!!! i may well jump on this. damn you GAS. damn yooooouuuuu!!!
  13. pleasure to start the thread off, bought a line6 verbzilla from him, just as described, posted super quick - don't be afraid of the bank transfer, he's an honest bloke!
  14.
Electro Harmonix Bass Micro Synthesizer should be perfect. Search google and watch the Peter Stroud demo video, he shows how you can get a guitar tone using it.
+1 for this.
  15. hmmm, 1 feedback over 12 months ago, and the microsynth looks to be without the green paint and doesnt say guitar or bass. fake? link
  16. yeah, as one who faced this issue earlier in my playing life, i would suggest a 2nd hand peavey such as this, you can pick em up for peanuts, plus a 4x10 cab and a decent overdrive pedal. for the pedal it depends what you're after, a bit of grit or actual overdrive - for grit i'd go for the tech21 VT bass pedal, it's a modern classic and is designed to replicate that ampeg growl you're after. you can easily get these 3 items for withing £400 and would have a great basic rock bass rig. don't underestimate peavey amps, they're cheap and sound great.
  17.
When set to the hold function, the pedal will repeat what you've just played until you take your foot off again. Of course, if you put your foot on again VERY quickly and keep doing this, you can make quite a cool stuttering noise. I'm not sure of the exact delay time (I can't find it online - but the pedal itself does between 12.5ms and 800ms allegedly - it isn't clear which settings that applies to), but once it has the sample, you can turn the delay time knob to increase or decrease the delay time and consequently the speed and pitch of the sample if you want. All I know is it isn't really a long enough delay time to record anything particularly musical. It really is a stuttering kind of effect. If you watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0D2NYXhepjE from 5:55 onwards, that is the hold function on the longest delay time. When the pedal is released, the 'held' motif is erased from the pedal's memory. EDIT: I can't believe I actually just wrote fut instead of foot -_-

I have a DD-3 and can help. The pedal will hold and repeatedly play what you put into it as long as the pedal is pressed down. The time for the hold is very short though, about half a second max and it will stop when you release the pedal. When the held sound is playing, you can mess around with the delay time knob and get some some nice osciallation effects. Hope that helps! Edit: never mind, Chris beat me to it.
thanks for the info!!!! hmmm, sounds like it would be useful - i'll check the old finances and get back tomorrow!
  18. hiya man, can u elaborate on the hold function of the dd3? i'm looking for a pedal that, when pressed, will record what i play either for a preset time (and needs to go for very short times, 200ms) or until when i release the pedal, then replay this small loop. does that make sense? it sounds like what i would expect a 'hold' function to do!
  19. wont find out till i get off from work whether there's a voicemail waiting for me from flynn amps, but as a side note on how customer service should be: guitar guitar sold me a psu and daisy chain that they assured me were compatible - they werent. popped back in this afternoon, returned it and fortunately they had the one i wanted in stock now so got that instead. they owed me a quid, said i'd put it towards some strings - the guy went, tell you what, since u had to come back in, just have the strings for a quid. and thats why they get my repeat custom.
  20.
could do with a blend on that just to retain some definition, the first four clips sound terrible haha. props on them using electric wizard riffs to demo it though!
horses for courses - the 1st 4 were my fav!!!!!! incidentally i notice you do the mammothsound pedals - i'll be in touch next month about one of those lofi - style ones you do!!!!
  21. saw this , heard the samples, thought of this thread.

    Loopers
Akai Headrush. Theres one for sale at a very good price; http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=61885
+1 i was on the lookout last year, tried the headrush, rc20, line 6 dl4 and line 6 looper, headrush won hands down for ease of use and quality of sound. of course i didnt have your budget so not too up on the high end stuff!!!! if you're looking for looping stuff and then dropping certain layers out and bringing them back later, i think the boomerang is a good bet.
  23.
Hi Guys, I'm looking for an effects pedal that can make a bass sound like a guitar. I recorded a bass fill on our album using an Epiphone Jack Cassidy played through a guitar amp. However live I play a Musicman Sterling through an SVT2 and 810 and so I need a pedal that will do the job. Any help would be much appreciated. Also does anyone know how to 'host' mp3's? I didn't know how to show you guys a clip of what I wanted so I used Fileden. Here is a clip of the recording in question (it really does sound like a guitar). The clip is only 8 seconds long so it won't take long at all to download it: http://www.fileden.com/getfile.php?file_pa...s%20Extract.mp3 Thanks, Ed (Elliot Minor)
hmmmm, actually sounds pretty synthy to me, i'd maybe go down that route, there will doubtless be others here who can advise you better on synth pedals, not really my forte!
  24.
This is a fine theory, until you introduce the universal constant - at least one and most likely a large portion of the bands you might encounter on a tour will be comprised of either: a) teenagers b ) f***wits c) both.
which is why i have produced 2 signs, one for the top of my head and one for my cab, reading: "do not remove any cables from this amp. if you do not know what the word impedance means, and how to calculate it, step the f*** back." i make this point quite clear, in an albeit somewhat friendlier manner, to any other bassists and the sound guy at each gig.
