1. pleasure to start the thread off, bought a line6 verbzilla from him, just as described, posted super quick - don't be afraid of the bank transfer, he's an honest bloke!
  2.
Electro Harmonix Bass Micro Synthesizer should be perfect. Search google and watch the Peter Stroud demo video, he shows how you can get a guitar tone using it.
+1 for this.
  3. hmmm, 1 feedback over 12 months ago, and the microsynth looks to be without the green paint and doesnt say guitar or bass. fake? link
  4. yeah, as one who faced this issue earlier in my playing life, i would suggest a 2nd hand peavey such as this, you can pick em up for peanuts, plus a 4x10 cab and a decent overdrive pedal. for the pedal it depends what you're after, a bit of grit or actual overdrive - for grit i'd go for the tech21 VT bass pedal, it's a modern classic and is designed to replicate that ampeg growl you're after. you can easily get these 3 items for withing £400 and would have a great basic rock bass rig. don't underestimate peavey amps, they're cheap and sound great.
  5.
When set to the hold function, the pedal will repeat what you've just played until you take your foot off again. Of course, if you put your foot on again VERY quickly and keep doing this, you can make quite a cool stuttering noise. I'm not sure of the exact delay time (I can't find it online - but the pedal itself does between 12.5ms and 800ms allegedly - it isn't clear which settings that applies to), but once it has the sample, you can turn the delay time knob to increase or decrease the delay time and consequently the speed and pitch of the sample if you want. All I know is it isn't really a long enough delay time to record anything particularly musical. It really is a stuttering kind of effect. If you watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0D2NYXhepjE from 5:55 onwards, that is the hold function on the longest delay time. When the pedal is released, the 'held' motif is erased from the pedal's memory. EDIT: I can't believe I actually just wrote fut instead of foot -_-

I have a DD-3 and can help. The pedal will hold and repeatedly play what you put into it as long as the pedal is pressed down. The time for the hold is very short though, about half a second max and it will stop when you release the pedal. When the held sound is playing, you can mess around with the delay time knob and get some some nice osciallation effects. Hope that helps! Edit: never mind, Chris beat me to it.
thanks for the info!!!! hmmm, sounds like it would be useful - i'll check the old finances and get back tomorrow!
  6. hiya man, can u elaborate on the hold function of the dd3? i'm looking for a pedal that, when pressed, will record what i play either for a preset time (and needs to go for very short times, 200ms) or until when i release the pedal, then replay this small loop. does that make sense? it sounds like what i would expect a 'hold' function to do!
  7. wont find out till i get off from work whether there's a voicemail waiting for me from flynn amps, but as a side note on how customer service should be: guitar guitar sold me a psu and daisy chain that they assured me were compatible - they werent. popped back in this afternoon, returned it and fortunately they had the one i wanted in stock now so got that instead. they owed me a quid, said i'd put it towards some strings - the guy went, tell you what, since u had to come back in, just have the strings for a quid. and thats why they get my repeat custom.
  8.
could do with a blend on that just to retain some definition, the first four clips sound terrible haha. props on them using electric wizard riffs to demo it though!
horses for courses - the 1st 4 were my fav!!!!!! incidentally i notice you do the mammothsound pedals - i'll be in touch next month about one of those lofi - style ones you do!!!!
  9. saw this , heard the samples, thought of this thread.

    Loopers
Akai Headrush. Theres one for sale at a very good price; http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=61885
+1 i was on the lookout last year, tried the headrush, rc20, line 6 dl4 and line 6 looper, headrush won hands down for ease of use and quality of sound. of course i didnt have your budget so not too up on the high end stuff!!!! if you're looking for looping stuff and then dropping certain layers out and bringing them back later, i think the boomerang is a good bet.
  11.
Hi Guys, I'm looking for an effects pedal that can make a bass sound like a guitar. I recorded a bass fill on our album using an Epiphone Jack Cassidy played through a guitar amp. However live I play a Musicman Sterling through an SVT2 and 810 and so I need a pedal that will do the job. Any help would be much appreciated. Also does anyone know how to 'host' mp3's? I didn't know how to show you guys a clip of what I wanted so I used Fileden. Here is a clip of the recording in question (it really does sound like a guitar). The clip is only 8 seconds long so it won't take long at all to download it: http://www.fileden.com/getfile.php?file_pa...s%20Extract.mp3 Thanks, Ed (Elliot Minor)
hmmmm, actually sounds pretty synthy to me, i'd maybe go down that route, there will doubtless be others here who can advise you better on synth pedals, not really my forte!
  12.
This is a fine theory, until you introduce the universal constant - at least one and most likely a large portion of the bands you might encounter on a tour will be comprised of either: a) teenagers b ) f***wits c) both.
which is why i have produced 2 signs, one for the top of my head and one for my cab, reading: "do not remove any cables from this amp. if you do not know what the word impedance means, and how to calculate it, step the f*** back." i make this point quite clear, in an albeit somewhat friendlier manner, to any other bassists and the sound guy at each gig.
  13.
reason obviously has not prevailed pressure is required what form it need take is debateable but an indication of sheer anger and name shaming should be on you lips...just after you walk out the door with the thing fixed is it biggars
it's flynn amps, just behind cc music off great western road. if there's no call tomorrow there shall be blood, but not whilst they've still got my amp!!!
er you asked for a service and a side panel to be re-glued? should they not have asked your permission before doing any other substantial work on it?
i should point out that when i spoke to them the 3rd time i agreed for them to go ahead with the filter capacitor swap.
  14. well, went into flynn amps in glasgow yesterday for an update. the owner/boss was there so we had a few words, him saying that they had actually done an awful lot on the amp, me suggesting it would have been nice to have received a phone call after a month. the upshot is that i've been assured it should be ready tomorrow. and that i will receive a call / voicemail. we shall see. at the end of the day, i reckon that these guys are probably pretty good at fixing stuff - i just don't think they have any idea how to run a customer-focused business.
  15. my policy is, if you're using someone else's gear, ALWAYS find the guy who's gear your using, introduce yourself, confirm that it's ok, offer him a pint. if he says no thanks to the pint, if you see him drinking later on, buy him one anyway.
  16. getting tickets today, yeehaa!!!!
  17.
MB1. You Could?...Smarten up!...Get a shave!....OR.......tell them youre a moderator on Basschat with thousands of bass players on the internet, and you were thinking of giving them a namecheck for such a Great Service theyve provided you and your amp!.... .....Should Speed the Process!
well my girlfriend would like the smartening up and shaving part of it!!!!! i think i'm going to wander in tomorrow and have a quiet word with them in person. to be honest if it had taken this long and they'd called me once a week i could take it, but no contact at all!?!?! it's just really disappointing. maybe because i'm not that knowledgeable on valve amps i'm giving them too much leeway. anyhow, i'll let you all know how it goes tomorrow evening - thanks for the support!!!! PS i'm going to hold off on the naming and shaming till tomorrow, can't say i'm not giving them their chance to redeem themselves!!!
  18. i just thought i'd share this with everyone and get some opinions (or maybe just a rant off my chest!) i bought mattcitizenbass's soundcity 120b a coupla months ago, played it for a week, loved it, thought to myself, well if i'm taking this out gigging i'll treat it to a good set-up first. so took it in to a well-respected amp repair shop in glasgow. now it had acquired a wee bit of damage to one side panel, nothing major, just needed glued/pinned, plus i wanted to know if there were any issues etc... brought it in, everyone's all smiles, v friendly, told it'd be a week to a week and a half... (no contact) 2 weeks later, i give them a wee call for an update, 'yep, we were working on it, there's a bit of a buzzing that i'm trying to track down, a couple of days' all v friendly again, not a problem i think, i'm in no rush. (no contact) another week later, another call, i said i had a gig the next night, would i be ready for the next day by chance? 'yep, just need to give it a quick once over and you're ready, no probs for tomorrow'. and how did you get on with that side panel 'ummmm, oh, i'll glue it today and it'll be fine'. thinking i'd give them as long as possible i said i'd pick it up the next day a half hour before they close (5.30, gig load in at 6). next day, 3.30 i get a call from them (shock horror!) to tell me that they had discovered that the filter capacitors needed stripped out and replaced, it'd be £10 each, i needed 4 and they'd have to wait for them to be ordered in. hmmm, ok i think, a tad disgruntled now. (no contact) this is now another week later, ie a month i must add that every time i spoke to someone, although they were very keen and eager on the phone, i got the distinct impression that they didnt have a clue who was meant to be dealing with the amp, much less had an idea of what needed doing on it or timescales etc... it's left me with the impression that if i was a guy walking in with his prized ac30 or marshall plexi and a rangerover and a wad o' cash then nothing would be too much trouble, but for a scruffy guy with a beard? as soon as you're out of the door we've forgotten all about your amp son! so what to do? be more forceful with them? they're going to get some constructive criticism either next time i have to call them or when i pick it up - for the money i'm paying them the customer service is atrocious. phew, rant over!!!
  19.
Yeah, i've heard from quite a few sources that I should step away from the ehx smm w/h. Was worried about the noise on the chain, so also have decided to leave the echo park too. I've ordered the Digitech Hardwire DL-8 that dannybuoy suggested; the true bypass and warm tone really sold it for me (i'm pretty sure it has tap tempo too!). I think the organ player in my band is going to get a carbon copy for his hammond, so hopefully I'll get to have a little blast on that too at some point! Thanks for your input!
not a problem, i've heard good things about the hardwire series!!!!
  20. i suspect it's more down to recording techniques also, i've seen them live twice and the guitar is awesome but not got that brutality that u can hear on the records, particularly no heroes - this is helpful tho: a vaguely insightful discussion
  21. from your list i'd go for the carbon copy or the echo park, carbon copy is defo the warmest but i'm a sucker for tap tempo!!!! i had the ehx smm w/h but i found it to be a bit sterile, tho there are some interesting and tweakable settings to have fun with. edit: aye, the echo park's just a tad noisy on a daisy chain. ^_^
  22.
I did a Carling Academy tour once and we got properly looked after - butties, crisps, beer and water in the dressing room, and buy-outs for dinner too! Made a nice change, most gigs I've done we're lucky to get a pint or two, never mind getting fed.
oh aye, that reminds me of the BBC, they were awesome to us!!!! soft drinks, deli sannys, posh biccies, now i know where the license fee goes!!!!
  23.
Do you have riders at your gigs? Do you turn up expecting to be fed and watered, only to find the dressing room fridge is empty? Do you have Spinal-Tap demands? Cans of coke or lines of coke? Pray tell.
i think generally if a promoter has put the gig on or you've been booked by a client / venue it's not unreasonable to expect a few beers and/or soft drinks. anything else and i'm stoked!!!!!
  24. PM'd for verbzilla.
  25. interested in the vestax, if it's still there in a coupla days when i get paid might take u up on it!
