the saddles and the springs, the grub screws and the intonation screws were a bit too rusty to rescue

Leave them in an old mug, with some cola (enough to cover) over night, and wash off next morning.

  2. For the past 18 months I've been seeing more and more developed AI being used across the Creative sectors, as well many others. With Chatgpt and the likes, it occurs to me it won't be too long before an AI generated pop song will top the charts, which'll no doubt open the flood gates to further AI hits. And an AI hit factory.

This will inevitably lead to songwriters becoming obsolete, with AI writing pop hits in seconds. I know this is being developed and has been worked on for a while, but I believe its only time before the songwriter will become a dead art, surpassed by AI.

Fortunately live artists and bands will remain, including the low end folk. Although having said that the digital ABBA gigs leaves food for thought. 🫢

  3. You adjust the pickups height to whatever sounds best to you. The Fender measurements are purely a guide, don't get that mixed up with fact! So set the pickups fairly low and raise each in turn to whatever sounds best to you. You'll know if you've gone too high as the sound will start to wobble, then screw back down a little.

Strings, pickups, neck wood etc all plays a part, so tune it to whats best to your own ears.

Ah of course, nice I'll try that thanks! You just saved me considering a complete upgrade of my pickups. I was only looking for covers but you know how it always ends :D

Cut up something like a business card, put a small piece at each end underneath the pickup covers. It'll raise the plastic cover enough to level the poles.

Also, in 2015 there was no Fender Player, it was Standard then!

  6. This. You'll have to message the guy fast.

Its lightweight, PJ pickups so good variety in tones available, and cheap... only it is active, so will need a battery added to play amplified, but perfect to begin or learn on accoustically.

I spent exciting afternoon a few months back comparing body measurements (with photos) between my Japanese 1100s and my 374a, to compare new to old. I realised what an absolute nerd I was being and don't think I ever posted the results.

There were lots of very slight differences but in all honesty they were remarkably similar.

The angles of knobs is also another clue, although its more difficult to tell on active basses.
