I did this using the bottom four strings of a five-string set, on a Harley Benton fretless.  Works well, and it does what I want it to.  (Plus, the G string on my fivers tends to sound tinny.)

I'll probably upgrade the pickups and loom at some point.

I’ve joined a band that has bagpipes as its centrepiece (don’t pile on… 😊) so the majority of the songs, or parts of them are in either Eb or Bb. Their previous bassist played a 5er, and it makes sense to have a low B so that I can add some heft to the songs, instead of playing the same note on the A string. I’ve had to widen the slots on the nut slightly, just need to order some strings. No need for fettling the string holes at the bridge either. 😊
