1. Today my band (Inside View) played at Haigh Hall Festival (A local Wigan festival that has a full afternoon of local unsigned bands) and this year the stage was unreal. There's a week full of big name concerts next week (McFly, N-Dubz, Katherine Jenkins, Ronan Keating etc) and as such they had a really professional set up, certainly the best and biggest stage I've ever played on. I'm still buzzing now despite playing at 1415 this afternoon Here's a quick video of our opening song Judas, though I'm afraid my little jump at 3:04 is a little Busted (I appreciate the bass isn't prevalent in the mix, but it was a handheld cam and I had quite a honky tone ): Picture Perfect: Dumb:

3. Hey chaps. Got a Yamaha PSR-292 keyboard that's been sat on top of my wardrobe for nigh on a year. I'm not sure on the full specs of the keyboard (as its quite a few years old now), however, here's what I know: 61 full-size touch sensitive keys Two way stereo speakers (sub and tweeter each side). 605 voices (including drums kits and DJ sound sets) 135 accompaniement styles 100 demo songs 208 musical database settings (chooses styles and voices for you based on genres). Line/headphone out Sustain pedal socket (sustain pedal included, although it is a little dodgy, as it only works upside down ) Midi in and out PSU included. Music stand Carry case with full Yamaha documentation and songbook (for the 100 demo seongs). Foldable stand This keyboard is in complete working condition and could make a great first keyboard or even for a serious player. I'm asking for £55 collected for this (I'm not willing to ship), however I will deliver around the NW area for a bottle of coke. Cheers, Karl
4. Going to bump this topic back up as I want to get it sold
5. Ended up going for the CV Jazz. Had to order one in to the shop as they'd sold their last one an hour before I went in today (do'h!). Can't wait until it comes in
6. D'oh, tried an Ibanez SR300 in a shop today, and REALLY liked it. It had a great set up, felt really nice (body style) and sounded great too. The only annoying thing was being unable to anchor my thumb on the pickups (stupid curved shape). I realise this is a lot below the £400 budget, but I really did like how it had felt.
7. Definitely tempted to go for the BB414 or possibly even a Squier CVP Bass or Vintage V4 over a more modern sounding active bass. Less controls to confuse my amateur tone brain! CV Jazz is also a possibility as I've been listening to KC and The Sunshine Band a lot recently and can't enough of the bass grooves and tone in their songs! Struggling to sell my 6 string at the moment so this is going to have to wait til then, however I can't wait to get playing.
8. Which (if any) of the Vintage Modified Jazz and the Classic Vibe Jazz have a smoother, warmer tone? This forum is killing me there's so many basses I want.
9. The Yammys keep getting mentioned I've heard very good things about them. Will the 614 (being active vs the passive of the 414) sound more modern? As I say I've heard nothing but good things about their sound, however I find it hard to get over the 'Tellytubby' looks.
10. As I mentioned in the first post, I'm going to be using the Take It Away scheme so will be looking at a new bass (as obviously I can't get a used bass unless it's in a shop).
11. I'm going to drop the preference for a 5 string and stick with 4 for now, I need to learn my way around a bass and there's less worry about finding a bass with a suitable B string. So the V1004DX is definitely still a contender.
12. I've got a six now that I'm selling a little too much.
13. I agree. A touch over budget though (I'll be using the Take It Away scheme so I'll be paying monthly over 10 months for this. Can't really afford more than £40/month at this stage.
14. I agree about the comments of the B string. I'm really bothered that the Vintage may have a sub-par B string. How do the Ibanez's B strings stack up? I realise the BTBs have a 35" scale (I don't wanna start that 34" v 35" argument but the 35"s I've played have all had nicer B strings, both in feel and sound) so this may help but the majority of the others (Yamaha/other Ibbys) seem to have 34" scales.
15. Hello all Hopefully on Saturday I'll have shifted my current cheapy 6 string to a friend and have a little of a deposit towards a new bass. I'm looking at spending around £350, with £400 as an absolute maximum. I'll probably be looking at brand new basses as I'm going to make use of the "Take It Away" scheme. I listen to mostly "heavier" music (not extreme metal or anything but punk/rock/indie/metal etc), so I guess I'll be favouring a more modern tone (a lot of my favourite bass players use Stingrays), however, I also like to have a mess about in lighter genres like pop songs and even older ones (Phil Collins, just random songs from the past etc). I keep reading Machines review on the Vintage V1004DX and keep looking at buying this (going from the sound clips, the sound is very close to what I want). Can be had for £339 from DV247 (they offer the Take It Away scheme ordering over the phone). Does anyone else have any suggestions to any other basses that could be had that would give me a modern tone as well as a lot of versatility? Regards, Karl
16. I've got this HB that I'm really not playing at the moment, and some car repairs are coming up and I think I could do with moving this bass on. I'm going to link to the original topic for pictures: CLICKY
Basic specs I know are: 2x MMB pick-ups, active electronics, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, ash-body, die-cast machine heads and chrome hardware. Colour: Transparent Black.
This is actually a great bass. I really enjoying playing it and if I could keep it I would, but as I mentioned I need to sort out my car. It's in need of a new set of strings, and perhaps a bit of a clean, but other than this and the couple of other bits mentioned in the original topic, it's a cracking bass. Doesn't feel too big, cracking B string (only a 34" scale), it's got a real nice 'something' in the tone that I love and think it would sound even better with a new set of strings. Any questions, don't hesitate to ask. £75 collected only (I'm based up in Wigan). Karl
17. A Fender Deluxe Jazz V looks very nice about now (not American though).
18. Very tempted by this for a new bass purchase! Now just to decide which bass! Oh and sell my Harley-Benton 6 string mean budget machine on here!
19. Thanks for the replies guys! I have a Harley Benton 6 string at the moment, but the strings are a little dead so I'm not getting as much attack as I could. PLus I'm only playing through an Ashdown Perfect 10. I really need to get a pedal pre-amp/multi-fx and have a proper play with EQ. I think perhaps I'm pushing the mids a little too much coz it always sounds so nasal to me. I appreciate what sounds good in a band context may not sound good on its own etc...I'm actually scared of mids, I don't like the sound of them.
