Hi guys... hope you can help...

Firstly, tonight I was rearranging some pedals on my board and got a small electric shock off the strings on my bass!. I thought nothing of it. Then I got another, and another and so on.

This happened when running 4 pedals off the 6 pedal daisy chain from my diago power station. After I got the shocks I started to notice that when i take my hand off the strings (break the circuit I was creating) there is a slight hum coming through the amp. After a little investigation, this gets louder when I touch the metal on any of the pedals of jack leads in the chain from the diago power supply.

I wondered if one pedal had an issue and so unplugged all but one, going through each in turn, but no matter which pedal is connected this still happens.

Connecting the bass direct to the amp it does not so I know the bass is not causing it.

Do I assume that my diago powerstation has just decided to die on me? Is there an issue caused by not connecting all of the sockets on a daisy chain (surely not!?). Can anyone help?


Secondly. I received a EHX Bass Blogger today. The manual says it will not work in a daisy chain. My Micro synth does not, but that also requires a specific power supply, unless I use a gig rig virtual battery. I was told by a chap in a local shop that sells EHX products that the smaller pedals just need the polarity reversing. I picked up a few reverse polarity converters for next to nothing, but that does not seem to work.

If its in the daisy chain, it cuts the power to all the other pedals. If its in the daisy chain with the polarity changer, all other pedals work and the signal goes through its bypass, but when I turn the pedal on it cuts the signal and no LED.

In anyone else's experience does the Bass blogger require a gig rig battery as well?

AND... Could trying that pedal with the diago of been what has killed it!???

Hi Josh, welcome to the forums.

The Big Muff is very fuzzy I find, great if you want a really dirty sound... but a good one at that. The Bass blogger has mixed reviews, but being a joint Fuzz/Overdrive it would seems somewhat more versatile!

I actually just picked one up off eBay for £30 and it should come tomorrow so I'll post my feedback on it here then!

GC: Your bass sound is pretty radical with a lot of extreme low end coupled with a high percussive attack and rattle. How do you get that sound?

Fieldy: I don't use any mid-range, it's all highs and lows. I take the mid-range and turn that s--t off. And when you slap, it's just real clicky sounding and when you use your fingers it's real low. I take the graphic EQ at 180Hz and I take that all the way down too. That's the style I play. I'm a drummer. I'm a drummer on bass.

And yes the neck really is as thin and fast as stated, although until you play it, its hard to believe its that good!

I'd say in terms of the amount of sounds available they are about the same. The deep impact has the HUGE bonus that once you find a good sound you can save it, along with a few (9 if I recall???) and use them during a gig by cycling through them with the foot switch. The EHX is one sound, then change all your settings for another sound, but I do find you can fine tune a specific sound a little better.

Having said that, the EHX does cut though much better and it doesn't suck your tone like I used to find the Deep Impact did.

If you have a Deep Impact though, I would be reluctant to swap it for anything that is not bloody fantastic as getting another one if you change your mind will be no easy task!

P.S. EHX definitely has the better Octaver sound!

I used to own a Deep Impact, long time ago, and sold it for £50. Which was really silly!

I bought last week an EHX Bass Micro Synth after seeing some cool stuff on YouTube. For the first few days I was concerned it was faulty. farty noises, huge decay on the notes... but I'm starting to understand they are just very complex and sensitive units. I am now getting some seriously awesome sounds out of it. If this is the starting point for what's to come from this unit... then it f'ing rocks!!!

It is quite a beast thats for sure, and total overkill for my paying in my 1 bed apartment need... but I got an awesome deal on it, and while I may not need all the power now... It really is a rig that should last me a life time...

Hi guys, the effects run...

The bass is actually Wenge (dark brown with a strong visible grain) rather than black, but the lighting has not shown it well :-)

As for rig size... yeah its quite large... cab is the same hight as the bass almost exactly... irony is I don't have a car at all and I'm only 5'4"... yay!

I finally have my dream set up. its taken 6 months of being very poor and working up through a few amps, buying and selling to get what I have but here goes....
