  1. In all honesty, Lowest bow I'd entertain is a Carbon bow... If you're looking at pernambuco bows best bet is the Claude Marchand (£1200-£1400) before you start going into £2k... When buying bows try before you buy!!!!!! It's wood, as wood varys from tree to tree the balance isn't always the same... But a bow that is not all that for you might work for someone else... Few tips keep back straight, no hunching over... Bowing arm extended and relaxed... straight bow strokes... relaxed thumb, whilst gripping the frog... even sound and from frog to the tip of the bow. = ) Good luck!
  2. Throwing a curve ball out there, ever thought of classical double bass? Bowing = ) Neil Tarlton's bowing books and Bottesini's bass method. Don't be caught into "grades" just practice... Be focused and results happen. After about 3 years you'll be able to tackle this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgZ_-f7pVk4
  3. Bowing Technique. big sound require relaxed arm and correct posture. = ) practice open strings one string at a time at various tempos getting an even bow disputation - F
  4. Great stuff, sounds like he's touched on many crucial points that will cause your technique to naturally improve. Which is an awesome thing! Storch hrabe is an awesome book, my favorite piece is study no. 7. Neil Tarlton's selection of books will be very helpful (I can not stress how good this book is). Definitely, continue lessons with Tom, he will be an amazing asset to improving your playing... But his selection of Cd's from amazon they are pretty inexpensive if you haven't already = ) Have lessons if and when you have questions on what you have studied. possibly every 3 weeks! should be enough practice and questions to be answered Good luck, -F
  5. Great!!! So happy to hear! What did you talk about?! Bowing, fingering, audition choices etc? A lil review would be awesome! -F

  8. Paul Bryant's hand made db's are fantastic value for money... Get one before he hangs his tools up for good! £4-5k +
  9. Hi, a good bow is very hard to come by... I own a Claude Marchand which I'll be honest it competes with many bows of double its value... Thomas Martin or Andrew Mcgill is your best bet! Andrew does the best re-hairs ever. Period. Good luck! FYI - I believe the bow price is around £1200 or £1400 Which is cheap for what you get!
