  1. What flats are you using out of interest? Have you tried the EB cobalts flats which apparently sound a bit brighter? I have a fretless P with unknown flats on them. They feel and sound great.. for a more modern sound I might keep roundwounds on a p/j or lesser P.. Still need to get the perfect p for flats.. I tried an American pro II in bass gallery with Thomastick flats.. it was out of this world good.. but at that time I was looking for a fretless.. regret not picking it up too!!
  2. 100% agreed. my dilemma is do I commit to the P and get a second USA p bass - which means ditching my MIM jazz and stringing one with flats and the other with roundwound or tapewound?Am I being foolish for wanting one with roundwounds too or do I just commit to one sound
  3. Totally agree. If I spent the same amount of time worrying about theory and technique I’m pretty sure I’d pay for the more expensive basses I have lusted over!
  4. I think one also need to consider whether we are talking about the ‘one’ true bass that represents one’s personal sound and search for True Tone.. or a collection of instruments that embody the sound of ‘western’ music in terms of certain vintage or modern Precision or Jazz or musicman or whatever ( hofner, Ricky etc etc).. what are we getting from a return on investment from a bass? Are we getting a true recreation and experience from an instrument of a certain album, period or song? is it the playing experience ( the neck feel, the pickup/preamp sound sculpting ability) or is it the amount we can expect to get back from the instrument at resell? Also to be noted the above quote is so true the more you spend the more subtle the differences appear..
  5. How do/ did people power their EBS valve drivers? I bought mine used and it didn’t come with any power. any recommendations? Should I splurge on the EBS pro AD-9power wart so I can power other pedals as well? Or do I go for dunlop or similar power brick?
  6. Ironically they were happy to px me the bass with a warning about the nut- to not go below a certain gauge.. wasn’t until I got it home that I really noticed how much it was eating behind the nut. I mean it plays wonderfully so not like I want to change it up too much.. I wonder do I leave it as is and accept that the damage is done?
  7. Only just realised Dood is the man behind that great EBS 802 amp review I have watched many a time! Probably a bit overkill for my back and light weight needs!
  8. Cheers for that. I have tried the vintera a while back. I found the neck quite hard to navigate. If anything I think I would hold out for an American pro ii p bass used.
  9. sometimes feels like a selling machine... like they won't take no for an answer.. like a high pressure selling techniques learnt from some dodgy online conference... having said that some of the content is first rate.. but i am so behind on the fretboard accelerator course.. but doing it at my own speed.. and it is enlightening in parts.
  10. I have a thing for American/USA Fender basses. I started recent arsenal with a '96 MIM jazz bass and a newer jag bass. Put hi-Mass bridges on both straightaway. tone is solid. Build quality is good/ok. But picked up a used '90's pbass fretless and was amazed by quality of the instrument, from the tuners, through body stringing and pickup clarity and tone. So I was like ok USA is better.. So I recently p/ex a warwick rockbass for a USA jbass fretless from Bass Gallery ( turned out to be a '99 model) AGAIN sounds sublime.. So to give the fretless p bass a partner, I picked up a lovely USA 2009 American P bass from Camden Guitars. However, It does seem incredibly light compared to the other USA basses I have and feels a bit flat compared to other.. Going to take it to Bass Gallery for a service and get it strung with flats- as it does have a slight electrical buzz and seems a bit flat overall. Is this GAS subsiding? Is it me or in the week after getting something new you usually start finding little faults or niggles? My question is do I sell the Mexicans now? What do people think of the Elite USA series? How do people feel about 5 string American Pro II P basses? Thanks for any input
  11. i just appreciated having someone showing me what it could do in a clear and concise video with decent sound and good production
  12. ‘98 and ‘96 fender USA p bass w flats & j bass. Anyone got any advice on replacing a nut. The j bass is eating away on the g string behind the nut.
  13. I picked one up after watching Matt's video. I love it for what feels like natural compression in the breakup. I have it infront of a PJB - Session 77. Makes the whole experience feel far more organic and alive. Also picked up an old black Label EBS octavabass. Any recommendations whether I go for BassIQ, Comp or Chorus/Vibrato next? At the moment I am mainly playing Pbass or Fretless (P & Jbass)
