After work I took a few bits off to have a poke around. The fretboard looked a little dry so a light rub with some lemon oil was in order. The electrics are not of the highest quality but do work well are are not simply "on/off" switches.
The cavity was unshielded (unsurprisingly) and a bit dusty as others have noticed, but again easily sorted. It is also wide enough to comfortably take a 9v battery...
The strings felt a little dead but I'm leaving them on until after band practice next week. The bass plays really nicely out of the box and has clearly had a very good set up by R&T. The roasted neck is amazing and so nice to move around on with the lovely satin finish. A great bass, certainly excellent VFM and as good as many Fenders. Can't wait to try it with the band.
A couple more pics for you.
What weight would you guess this bass might be?

Haven't seen this yet, but should be good. Only broadcast in Northern Ireland but now on iPlayer for 11 months.
Saw this on Irish TV a couple of weeks ago. Its a must see for any Gallagher fan, or those who might have a passing interest. An incredible talent.

Used to have one of these. Out of curiosity, I swapped out the pickups for some Lindy Fralins. After a couple of gigs, the original Pickups were reinstalled. These are terrific basses

Aye, and The Outlaws' selftitled debut album. Green Grass and High Tides is a true southern rock classic, clocking almost 10 minutes in the album version but live versions would often exceed 20 minutes. They're very much guitar-focused (three lead guitarists, much like Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Eagles) and feature a lot of vocal harmonies. Their third album Hurry Sundown is great too.
A great band. Their live album ' Bring it back Alive' is a cracker.

Slash at the Hydro. Myles Kennedy and the bassist/vocalist were on point. Could barely hear slash.
Not that I am a Slash fan but those who attended and are, must be infuriated, or maybe not?. With the advances in technology etc., surely you should be able to hear the bloody guitar player, particularly one of this status?. I am no longer a regular gig goer, for a number of reasons, not least because of my experience of increasingly poor audio standards at gigs.
My last major gig was Porcupine Tree in Amsterdam on November last. It just sounded like a bag of spanners for the most part, yet I heard precious few complain (well nobody), when chatting to other attendees when exiting the venue. The venue in question was a 17000 capacity arena, akin to a supersized shipping container. I wonder as to whether the size of these venues are conducive to good sound reproduction. I understand that their upcoming DVD release is a recording of this show, the sound of which will be quite superb, particularly with Steven Wilson at the helm. It will bear nothing in comparison to the very poor live sound I heard that night.
On the other hand in June 2022, I caught Steve Vai at the Academy in Dublin, a comparitively small venue, with a capacity of 1000. The star of that show on the night in question, was the guy on the desk. Probably the best live sound I have ever experienced, other than Page and Plant on their 'No Quarter' tour in the Point Depot, Dublin 1995 (its a toss of a coin).

I owned a NYC Sadowsky for a few years and enjoyed it. The fact that it was light weight, was a requirement for me. However the price they are selling for now is WAY over the top IMO. If I was buying a 'jazz' bass now, I would go for a Sire. My brother picked up a first generation model and I was knocked out by the finish, comfortable neck and excellent preamp. If had not been for the weight, I would have been quite happy to use it instead of the Sadowsky.

After they've finished...
"was that hard to play? because it was hard to listen to."
Many years ago I tried out a Spector in a London store and tried my 'wickety wickets' slap style. The sales guy was 'wow you are some player' no doubt hoping his words would help with a sale. I knew I was total shite, put down the bass and walked out

After hearing a uk 'porky' vinyl cut of Deep Purple's 'Made in Japan', my jaw was on the floor because of its sonic bliss. Recorded for peanuts and no overdubs apparently.

I was waiting for some mega slap fills to kick in, but thankfully no. Standard 2 finger picking technique and groove ++. Love it!

As a general query, in the case of having to replace a bassist in a decent touring band. How quickly can it be done? I am retired from the 'weekend warrior' circuit and know very little theory. Could a competent player walk in and sight read there and then?

Wet cloth, soldering iron, steam it out, as suggested by @Mudpup.
I have used this technique for taking dents out of 2 fretboards (maple and rosewood). Worked a treat.

'Get the funk out' by Extreme and 'Sweet Emotion' by Aerosmith. We were a classic rock covers band, but these two tunes got zero reaction

Not an Elton fan, but wow!. Not a fan of QOTSA and that's unlikely to change. Guitars sound fine until someone takes a solo which just sound out of tune.

So, what you are saying is well done Bernie Taupin... 😄
Yep, together with EJ and band whose performance was killer. The audience was fab. Just a really uplifting occasion.

You can have cracking musicians, terrific mix etc but the tunes have to be quality and these are all classics. I am not an EJ fan (that might well change) but this is real quality. The guy is 76 years old ffs.

I guess I come from an era when backing tracks were never an option. Live meant live, end of but times have changed obviously. I wonder would PT have opted for the same option if Gavin Harrison was unable to perform.
