I'm sure they still have the router templates, etc to make them and could if they wanted. But I guess they're overstretched with what they've already got on their plates (all MK-style Supernatural 4-strings apparently, based on this thread. :D )

They might still take an order for one, but what would put me off would be the waiting period. The MK style is undoubtedly where its at for them as that's where the demand is.

As I said earlier in this thread, it's a shame they haven't really continued to evolve the designs. Since J-type basses are kinda the thing right now, a new and updated Celeste (better balance, lightweight design, etc) would have seemed a pretty sensible move for them. I guess they have enough work making their classic designs (as this thread proves) but it'd be nice to see them "widen their remit" again.

Why not contact them and enquire about a Celeste build?

why via eBay rather than direct?
I used to work for a eBay based seller... the email portal really isn't easy as you get a deluge of messages for different stages of a sale

I have no idea how efficient the ebay portal may be, but I have always had prompt responses to enquiries over the years on ebay purchases. I take your point and will communicate directly with the dealer and see what is the outcome is

Slightly playing the devil's advocate here, maybe the supplier is working hard taking care of their existing customers, and prioritizes that work above answering one of the gazillions of e-mail questions they receive - often of a quite entitled and/or frivolous character or the result of drugs or alcohol, and most of the time not leading to a contract.
In several lines of business, typically selling goods to end-users, you can't do without e-mail, but a certain percentage of "customers" will shoot off mails that shouldn't be answered, or not answered in full.
The business will have to wade and decide, and will unavoidably make mistakes when doing so.

That's not to take BD's side. While Mark has been good with me on every occasion, I read the negative reports with growing sadness-not-anger. BD has a problem, and it stems not only from choices Mark has made, but also from stuff that was mentioned in earlier threads, but that I'm not willing to repeat. People in need of finding out could use BC's search function. Sorry for being cryptic.

The business I refer to is based in  Germany and if it was not for Brexit, I would be sourcing the item in the UK. Over the years, I have had 100% satisfaction with UK businesses in terms of communication, VFM,  etc.

The item i am in the market costs a  significant sum of money, and the questions asked of them are far from rocket science. If they are up to their eyeballs, the least they could do is convey that to potential customers like me, with an automatic response  that my query will be dealt with in due course. That does not even require the press of a button. First impressions can be everything to potential customers.

The problem with a telephone conversation is that there is no record of it having taken place unless both parties record it (which has its own separate set of privacy problems). That's the last thing you want when trying to resolve a problem. Form personal experience with BD I would want a full record of everything that has been done for any order over £25.00. I certainly wouldn't want to buy a bass (or have a problem with one resolved) from just a phone call.

As someone who runs their own business my position has always been (and most of you on here will probably be sick of me saying this) that if you are not prepared to deal with your customers by a particular means of communication, then DON'T PUBLICISE IT! All my customer's emails get answered within 24 hours of them sending it, and usually a lot sooner; even if all I am able to say to a particularly complicated request, is that I am currently working on it and will be back in touch as soon as I have the required information to answer them in full. I have no sympathy, no time, and no business to give to companies who cannot respond in a timely manner using a method of communication that they have published.

+1. I am currently in the market for a piece of hifi and asked the supplier some questions via ebay regarding the item. Days have gone by and by not replying, they have lost the sale. It gives me a taste as to how issues might be resolved, or indeed not, should there be concerns about the item going forward.

A lot of the bass legends seem to stick with 4 strings, yea they might dabble in another brand's 5 string but generally stick to their 4 string brand.

I think Jaydee have so many orders that it just wouldnt be efficient for their production line to accommodate to much diversity.. (im only guessing and have no real knowledge on this so take this with a pinch of salt...  )

Indeed it would appear that Jaydee have become less diverse in recent years, with Calibas and Celeste models which offered 5 and 6 string options, no longer advertised on their website.  Guess that is not where the typical Jaydee customer wants to go.

Look how many times people have said that about Jaco. Hasn't stopped his son playing Fodera 6-strings. :D

Even MK plays a 5 sometimes!

    EDIT: Video evidence. :D

MK only mimes with a 5😁. A four is where its at when it comes to MK and Jaydee.

They're not big on 5- and 6-strings anymore though - it's the GA24 or nothing if you want a 5, and I'm not sure they even make the Calibas anymore if you want a 6. Maybe they still make then to order?

I miss the Celeste basses - they were great, they should start those up again.

When I think of 5 and 6 string, Jaydee don't register. Their focus I reckon is on 4 string basses. If 4 is good enough for MK.....

Mark King was on BBC South East Today last week, and he had his white Jaydee with him. Guess he's fully back on board with them now!

He has been around the block with a choice of basses over the years and now that he has landed back with Jaydee and it is a massive endorsement for a top class Instrument. IMO, the Roadie Active 2 is the sweet spot and I preferred it over a mates MK Supernatural back in the 80's. The VFM factor on the Roadie is incredible and comes in under the price of many mass produced instruments. Yep there is a waiting list, but well worth waiting for IMO.

It started a long time before 85 and I suspect will stay forever.

Of course it is well known that there were differences and tensions between Gimour and Waters before '85. Indeed like many other bands these tensions, arguments etc can be used to advantage within the creative process. However it was after Waters leaving in 85' that these differences became public and  irreconcilable, and reached a new level with Waters taking legal action (something he now regrets).

Yes, but that isn't creativity - that is a remix of an old album. Maybe better, maybe worse but it isn't new.

I am well aware that it is a remix , not creativity and never suggested it was. I simply said that Floyd's output was fractured by Waters and Gilmours  wrangling. It started after Waters left the band in 1985 and continue to this day, which almost resulted in the remix not being released. Seemingly it took them years to agree on the liner notes.

Why? He had no involvement by all accounts in the Wall and that did ok.

Why? Because Gilmour said Floyd were finished after Wrights passing.  Is it remotely possible that Gilmour and Waters could mend their ways and return as Pink Floyd, with a new album? I doubt it, but pigs might fly

Well, they can as they haven't made anything* in a long time

    * that you would mention in polite company

Floyd's output was fractured by the ongoing problems and legal wrangling between Gilmour and Waters, after Waters left the band. Indeed such issues delayed the release of the 2018 Animals remix until now. It very nearly did not see the light of day. Wright's passing in 2008 essentially ended the notion of Floyd recording more material.  Therefore their rich collective creativity is encapsulated in their back catalogue, though both Gilmour and Waters as successful individual artists, have continued to keep their creative juices flowing with recording and touring.

I'm not a Pink Floyd fan so I couldn't comment specifically, but IME the versions of albums that I like are the ones that I am most familiar with. Personally I'd rather bands concentrated on writing another album's worth of great new songs than fiddling about with their back catalogue. To me it always seems as though it's an admission of a lack of creativity. (see the other thread on old bands)

In general I am with you in terms of liking the versions of albums I am most familiar with, together with  having reservations about older albums getting the re-mastering/remixing treatment and being re-released  in numerous formats and box sets. Most recently Rory Gallagher' back catalogue is getting this treatment and I wonder would Rory approve of this. I think that certainly in Floyd's case,  they can never be accused of a lack of creativity, indeed on the contrary.

I’m with you there. It’s a great remix, and sure loads of folk will love it. I’m just so used to the warmth of the original that this version spun me out a bit! (Listened on headphones)

Same as, listening with speakers. I think its fair to say that it is sonic  improvement over the original and allows for release of the album in various formats, thereby generating a tidy turnover. It can be argued ' Wish you were here ' and 'Dark Side of the Moon' might benefit from a similar remix and re-release. Selfish of me, but I hope they leave well enough alone.

I know the band were never happy with the mix, so presumably the new mix is more in line with what they were aiming for. It certainly sounds tougher and more '1977'.

I have listened to it again but not feeling it. It has more of a 3d soundstage which some might see as sonically better, but as I am so used of the original mix, feel it is exagerated. I see it is available on hi res download, so that might be the way to go.

Interesting - the 2018 mix has brought it to life for me. It’s much more present.

Maybe its the many years of listening to it that has baked the original mix into my head and hence the alternative just does not sound right to my ears. It's as if the essence of the recording has changed with the remix. In fairness I will probably buy the remix on CD and compare, as opposed to the Tidal stream, but would be surprised if that would change my mind.

  18. A great Show. The Pretenders sounded great, McCartney looks and sounds incredible considering his age and The Foo's delivered an emotionally charged set. Great to see Lee and Lifeson on Stage together, though Hakim was not that convincing for their set IMO ( Not a criticism, as no one could replace Peart). Terrific to see Rock music be the order of the day. No decks, backing tracks, and best of all no Bono.

  19. Some years ago I phoned them ready to pull the trigger on a rather expensive but well reviewed amp and cap, with credit card in hand. Not sure who I was talking to, but they enquired as to my go to bass and promptly tried to convince me that it was rubbish (a boutique £4.5k bass that I loved) and needed replacing. I brought my business elsewhere
