  1. I have always been a 5'er kinda guy... can easily adapt to a 4 and have done many a time but every bass I remember owning (apart from my first 57 reissue precision) has been a 5 string. I have a Sei Jazz 5 which I love to play and I currently have cash burning a hole in my pocket after a recent sale. Nothing on the classified grabs my attention. I have always loved a Stingray... I have lost count how many SR5s I have had over the years and every time I sell one, I get another a bit later because I miss 'that' sound. when it has been a while, you plug one in and say... "that's why I have a Stingray!" My current gig type doesn't really require that sound, however, I still want one. Basically I know of a 4 string Old Smoothie for sale with someone I know and as the Old Smoothie is less zingy than the modern Stingray, I am seriously considering one although I wonder if I will miss that low B. I do use it, but I reckon I can do without it. Or could I? Anyone been in a similar predicament? I'm so torn... the Old Smoothie looks and sounds great, it's a playability thing for me. Will I lose that adaptability I have with a 5? I know some people will say it's personal preference, just wanted some opinions before a pull the plug - or don't! Carl.
  2. A helpful hint of I may... Get yourself to Halfords and ask for a bike box from their rubbish. Preferably one that hasn't been broken down. A Stanley knife and a roll of packing tape, Bob is you mother's brother. Takes a bit of fettling to make it fit but I always find the cardboard is tough and makes a nice strong and well protected box. From a fellow overwater fan.
  3. Musicman Stingray 5 Classic. Natural with maple fingerboard and John East MMSR 3 band pre-amp. I love this bass but a recent Sei purchase means this is not being used and I could do with a cash injection at the moment. It pains me to do it as I have been after a classic 5 in this finish for years but needs must and a house renovation calls.😭 anyway, enough of the sob story... I blame @bubinga5 for selling me his Sei! He should have known better... in excellent condition, no major dings or knocks or anything, comes with the original Musicman hard case. i bought this from Moonbass for £1350 and am just looking for my money back, it is worth that considering list price and the preamp as well which has the swept mid control... Gorgeous birds eye maple neck, laquered, lovely to play and has that sound. I hope Moonbass doesn't mind me using his pics. Will get some more uploaded asap. i am happy to consider trades... A normal Stingray 5 would be welcome, as would a lakland or something similar with a SR style pup at the bridge, 5 string basses only. I need a cash injection of around £450 if that helps. Offers are welcome but cash sale it has to be £1350 and this is firm. Can post / courier fully insured at buyers cost, should be about £25. any comments are welcome!
  4. I will second this - Andy was a diamond throughout and did everything he could to rectify the situation.
  5. Bought Andy's Sei recently and despite some initial confusion with specs Andy did everyy in his power to get the problem sorted. An honest and admirable BC'er who I would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone for a positive transaction.
  6. As the buyer of the Sei, it wasn't an issue with the j-retro itself, for me the format of the setup was something I couldn't get on with (primarily the lack of pup blend in both active and passive modes) - anyway, Andy was a top bloke and we got it all sorted. I would like to reiterate what Andy says about John - I had numerous discussions with him about fitting the uni pre and he gave me loads of advice as well as supplying a modified version to fit the Sei. Anyway - its a great bass, amazing preamp and John is probably one of the nicest guys to deal with out there. As someone else earlier mentioned, he is da bomb!!
  7. Mackie Onyx 1640i Firewire Mixer in VGC. 16 channels, 4 sub groups, aux, EQ etc. A great mixer and the main part of our recording studio for a few years until a recent upgrade. Does come with the rack ears as well and has the changeable rear pod for different applications / mounting in a rack etc. Great for live sound, and you can record gigs via firewire! Can Transfer all 16 tracks to a DAW via the firewire interface. Even if your PC doesn't have firewire, you can buy PCI cards, adaptors etc. These go for nearly £400 on eBay so grab a bargain. It's too big to courier so collection only, but I can try to meet a little way if that helps. Price is open to negotiation within reason. Inspection and test more than welcome.
  8. @Maxillius just bought a Maruszczyk bass from me and was a pleasure to deal with from start to finish. A well recommended BC'er! Carl
  9. MARUSZCZYK ELWOOD L 5a-24 'Maple Burl' Selling my MARUSZCZYK ELWOOD L 5a-24 'Maple Burl' acquired here a few months ago. It's a great bass and I wouldn't be selling apart from something I have been after for some time has come up and it's the only thing I have to sell to help fund it. Extremely lightweight so nice and easy on the shoulder thanks to the resonant chambers. In immaculate condition, a couple of very minor scuffs on the headstock (were there when I got it) and comes with tools, certificate, paperwork and padded gig bag. I'm very reluctant to sell but needs must. Priced to sell including shipping, I'm only asking for my money back from the sale. Feel free to ask any questions... Technical information: Body: alder with maple burl top and resonance hollows Neck: hard rock maple, matching headstock Fingerboard: ebony, 24 frets Nut width: 45mm Construction: bolt on Pickups: Bassculture 38hb in maple burl cover, 2 mini switch (serial/single coil/parallel) Electronics: active 3-band Delano - volume (active/passive push/pull switch), balance, bass, middle, treble/passive tone blend Finish: natural, body/neck matte Hardware: black, Monorail bridge with 18mm string spacing Weight: 3,79kg incl. Gigbag
  10. I trialled the idea with an alto speaker, worked well but the QSC is another league altogether. I would imagine RCF, Yamaha would also give similar results. Don't compromise - if you are doing it, do it right.
  11. I have just gone down this route and and am well happy. I run a EBS microbass 2 into a QSC 10.2 and I must say that the sound is the most natural, even and well produced sound that I have had for a long time! (I have been through Genz, MarkBass, TC, ETC.) I use it at quite a large venue and it really delivers, and it has loads of power!! Far more than I will need. I do prop it up on an amp stand as well and it has the added bonus that I can run my vocal mic into it and use it as a vocal monitor as well, using the thru output to go to the pa. It doesn't compromise on the bass sound at all. I don't know how it would fair if you played in a rock band with just backline, but if you go into FOH, and just need to monitor, this idea is second to none. A preamp pedal of some sort in my view is important for sound control. The 10.2 does have onboard EQ but would be a fiddle mid-gig. That to me is the only compromise. I was skeptical, but I am converted. No more bass specific amps for me! End of the day, it what works for you and this works for me.
  12. Cheers.... They are great combos and I wouldn't be selling unless my needs had changed. Wish I could afford to keep both. Meant to add it comes with a mark bass keeper (as in the pic).
  13. Moving on my MarkBass CMD 102P. It has been great but everything I do now goes into FOH and I need a speaker which will be foldback for bass and vocal mic so am heading down the FRFR route. Complete as new and even has the sticker still on the grill, immaculate condition and only been used in smaller venues so never been pushed past half way by me or the previous owner. Tilt back option is great for monitoring and the VLE and VLF controls are really versatile. Collection in Lowestoft or I can travel to meet. Can possibly courier but would rather not. I will post pics but the amp is currently at my weekly gig venue where I keep it so will get them posted ASAP. Generic pic added for now!
  14. For clarification, it crashes on my system using cubase or Sibelius. A friend's windows 10 system, cubase, reaper and Sibelius all showed no issues at all. My MacBook, absolutely fine and rock solid. That's about the limit of the testing I can do.
  15. Need to get a working device due to up and coming project. It definitely seems that my system (mboard I think) is the issue - works great on my Mac and other windows users have commented on the stability of the unit... Offers are welcome bump!
  16. Bump back up... Seems it is my set up after all! Upgrade to cubase 10 did not fix it and tried it on a friend's pc with cubase 10.... Absolutely fine! Oh well! I need a working device! Anyone fancy a bash?? Will do it for £120 delivered....
  17. Bumping... Turns out it isn't my motherboard! Looks like it cubase! Other daws seem fine, even earlier versions of cubase are ok! An upgrade is in order! Still available though if anyone is interested...
  18. Focusrite Forte USB sound device. 2 in 4 out with breakout cable. Can run on USB power or with psu (included) if you want phantom power. Immaculate and boxed with accessories as new. Only selling due to a lack of compatibility with my motherboard on my pc. Solid as a rock with my MacBook but all my DAW work is on my pc now so I need a working device. I have researched the issue thoroughly and it seems to be an issue with my motherboard. Tried it on a friend's pc, fine - mine intermittent crashes even with a different driver. Oh well... It pains me to sell it as it is a lovely bit of kit and looks the part as well with the main jog wheel all encased is brushed metal finish. I can't guarantee it will be ok on your PC, Macs it will be fine but I couldn't find any reported issues pc wise - only seems to be my combination of parts causing issues. Cost me £250 new (can provide original receipt) £130 delivered seems fair. Trades for an alternative USB device will be considered. Will post pics showing it working shortly. Carl.

Vilem just bought my SR5 (he seems to like them!) - a lovely chap and easy transaction. Don't be hesitant in dealing with him!
  20. Hi all - selling my Musicman StingRay5 in natural ash finish with rosewood board. A great bass and my 5th SR5 - i keep going back and when I got this one, I said - this one is staying! However, I have seen a SR5 classic in natural finish which I simply have to own if I can so this one will have to go to fund it. If I don't sell, I won't be too upset as this is my goto bass but if I can sell, I will only be selling if I can get this SR5 classic. Anyway, serial number dates the bass around 2003/2004 and it is a great player. The person who owned it before me hardly played it and it shows. I has one minor ding which is only a mark in the lacquer on the chamfered edge and a tiny bit of tarnishing on the pick up pole pieces but I normally sort this with a bit of emery cloth. It's a real players bass, typical stingray sound and feel and about 9lbs on the bathroom scales. Comes with the musicman hardcase in which I can ship it in (will go halves on postage costs) and it comes with a rather funky pearl scratchplate as well as the original black one as well. I will put some new strings on for the new owner so it will be nice and fresh! The GruvGear case in the pics is not included. Price - I need a grand. Firm. Simple as that. I will have to find a few hundred on top for the classic so can't budge on the price. This also seems to be inline with prices on here. Collection from the East coast - or could meet within a reasonable distance if that helps.
  21. Rolls MS20 Passive Mic Splitter in good condition. Works great, one XLR in, 2 out. Simples. Postage should be no more than £3.
  22. Thing is, most photography bags are crazy expensive... That's why the Amazon basics one are good, great value and I like the separate sections... Loads of options!!
  23. Well, I got the gigblade sliver... This is a lot more streamlined than the gigblade 2 and storage isn't anywhere near as plentiful... I can fit it a couple of leads, strap plus a few little bits, although the bass is well protected and feels really snug. I like the side carry and use that option all the time. It feels like a very well made bit of kit, and I feel confident it will last. I wanted a streamlined gigbag and it was either this or the mono sleeve. I didn't get a chance to look at a sleeve but don't regret my choice. I don't think either is full of storage but I have a rucksack for the extra bits... By the way, Amazon basics photography backpacks are great for this and only cost £20-£30!! I'm sure there are cheaper options but I had the cash and wanted something plush and I got that with the gigblade...😊
