1. It's been a while since I posted anything here - been busy with music production, arranging and writing. Still play a lot of bass though, so hopefully I have the right :-) Here's a short piano based instrumental. Bass is from a Westfield P-bass clone hot rodded with Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder pickups! https://www.jenclark...ser/happy-music Cheers! Jennifer
2. Expert double bass and bass guitar tuition available in Glasgow City Centre. Whether you'd like to improve professional performance, add quality to enthusiasm, work toward grades, or successfully audition for music college, I can help. I believe that good musicianship with a solid foundation is the key to successful bass playing, and enable my students to develop their skills in technique, music theory, improvisation & reading in all styles of music. Students are welcome to bring their own instrument or use one from my collection during lesson time. I have 4, 5 and 6 string bass guitars, fretless bass guitar, acoustic bass guitar, double bass and electric double bass. A graduate of the Strathclyde University BA Applied Music degree, I have been playing professionally for many years. Please visit my website to read testimonials about my tutoring and hear recordings of my work. Lessons are near George Square, Glasgow, five minutes walk from the main railway stations & subway. Phone 07977 068 540 or email ?subject=Bass%20Lesson%20Enquiry"][email protected] to book :-) Jennifer
3. Thanks to all involved organising this event, I had a great time, and time flew on the Sunday! Excellent meeting everyone and playing all these basses :-) Jennifer
4. I'd like to second the repairman in Strung out Guitars, he's done some great work on my amps over the years. Fair prices too. Jennifer
5. Depends how you look at it. In terms of bass guitar technique I feel satisfied at the moment - my focus basswise over the last few years has mostly been on developing tone, effects, feel, the more abstract yet crucial aspects really. I use a pick most of the time now, for example, whereas three years ago it was always fingerstyle. It's a fascinating learning cycle, as it really goes at its own pace, you have to learn by doing it in the real world, then perceiving the results. In many ways it is a lot slower than learning to shred, but deeper and more satisfying. I'm a far better bassist for it. As far as the creating of basslines goes, one of the best things you can do IMHO is become more aware of other instruments. Jennifer
6. Merchant City Music is a good one, they've moved to near Glasgow Cross. McCormack's is no longer with us. Usual rehearsal space is Berkeley - good price, good gear, good facilities. You can't go wrong there. Jennifer
7.
I'll have to check out the new album.
Please do, and let me know what you think. Download here, physical CD here :-) Cheers, Jennifer
8. Still love this tune & bassline after all those years :-) Jennifer
9.
I'd never heard of Horse until a couple of months ago. My one tutor did the string arrangement for her song 'Careful'.
Audrey Riley? It is indeed a beautiful arrangement. I wrote a couple of string arrangements for the new album, and several more for our recent show at the Glasgow Barrowlands with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. The magnificent work she other noted arrangers such as Sally Herbert & Paul Leonard Morgan had done for Horse was both inspiring and a little terrifying at the same time :-) Jennifer
10. Thanks Nige, it was great to meet up with a fellow Basschatter for some London banter! Unashamed plug: we're playing Manchester, Edinburgh, Perth, Aberdeen & Kirkcaldy next if anyone else would like to pop along, dates here :-) http://www.horsemcdonald.com/horse-mcdonald-singer-uk-tour-2013.shtml Jennifer
11.
Just had another look and VT remix definitely cheaper at Sainsbury's. £4.99 with free postage. http://www.sainsbury...oduct=E11281969
Fab, just ordered it, thanks for the shout! I don't have the original CD, so really looking forward to this. £3.99 for Clockwork Angels too, you can't complain about that. Jennifer
12. Nice one Gary, hope you enjoy it, let me know what you think :-) Jennifer
13. Brilliant, will be great to meet up & have a chat. See you there! Jennifer
I shall be there. I've played there twice with Kit, it's a really lovely venue! In fact if you need an emergency support act, we come runnin In the diary. See you there
14. Yes! You're hearing what I hear - what more could one hope for :-) Indeed we are playing London, Bush Hall on 21st November. Part of a UK tour November / December; would be great to see you. http://www.horsemcdonald.com/horse-mcdonald-singer-uk-tour-2013.shtml Jennifer
15. Ah yes, there do seem to be a few others with similar names. Horse (singer) has been going since the Eighties though, so I reckon she has a good claim :-) Glad you liked it though! Jennifer
Oh, I thought this was 'HORSE the band'
16. I'm well chuffed you enjoyed the treat :-) We really tried to go beyond the stock musical approaches... good wasn't sufficient, it had to be the ultimate! A lot of effort, but justified, to my ears. Thanks so much for buying it, it means so much. Jennifer
f***ing 'ell Jennifer, it's a bit bloody good init !! Great pop songwriting, right up my street. Horse has a wickid voice! Great arrangements and production, performance is flawless, it's superb! Lovely bass tones and lines. I love the unpredictable arrangements, I think I know where a song is going and it doesn't, that's a lovely treat Bought.
17. At last, the official release! It's been over two years in the making, but was worth it :-) It's one of the few recordings I've been on that I still love to listen to, even though it has been in my possession now for many months. I played bass guitar & double bass on the whole album, and arranged strings for two of the tracks, "I Adore You" and "Home". Preview and download available on iTunes. I posted a video of the single "I Am" on Basschat recently here. Would be interested to hear your thoughts; we're all mighty proud of it here at Camp Horse :-) Jennifer
18. Thanks Jack. I've enjoyed the video too, it captures the gig and the musicians really well :-) Jennifer
19.
I'd give it a go but £39 is a bit steep (for me) for a 5 years old DVD that only costs £52 brand new, so I'll have to pass just now. I bet it's very good though. Good luck.
Fair point Rabbie! In fairness I only thought it was available to buy from abroad, and is currently out of stock. Do you know of a UK supplier selling it for £52? Jennifer
20.
Get hold of Rabbath's 'Art of the Bow'. Makes total sense of all aspects and inspirational too.
Shameless plug - I have this for sale, see post on this forum :-) http://basschat.co.uk/topic/213358-for-sale-francois-rabbath-art-of-the-bow-dvd Jennifer
21. Thanks guys, glad you like it. As a bassist I'm quite happy lurking in the background :-) Jennifer
22. With Horse. Studio recording with live video footage from recent gig at Glasgow Barrowland. Accompanied by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. I used a Squier 5 string Precision with Seymour Duncan 1/4 pound pickups, and some effects from Bass Pod XT Live for the outro. Well pleased with the bass sound. Jennifer
23. Over the last five years I've found this DVD to be an amazing educational resource, but it's time to pass it on. It goes for $79.99 new on CD Baby, but I'm prepared to sell my copy in good condition for £39 including postage. It is currently out of stock on CD Baby, so get it now before it's too late :-) Jennifer
24. Thanks chaps, I'll be leaving soon to catch the train to London, well psyched! Jennifer
