1.
Sorry for yet another "which cab should I get?" thread. Hopefully it's a sufficiently different scenario from the others, or it just might be far more vague Right. A bit of history. I've not owned tons of amplification and even fewer cabs. For years I had an SWR Bigfoot 2x12" which was a managable size and weight, and i'd maybe like to be getting back to that type of sound. I never disliked it but Bassworld raised my GAS levels and I ended up buying an Accugroove Tri210. I don't dislike the Accugroove either, good size/weight, but I think I like a more coloured tone. More vintage, and less "hi-fi" if you like, but something that still responds well to eq-ing. Another requirement might be a more modular 2 x 8ohm cab solution. I can then use 1 of the cabs as an extention to my GK combo if I want/need (but this isn't crucial). The GK is also a 12" driver. Now on a simple level, it appears that I may have a preference for the sound of 12" drivers, but maybe that is over-simplification, as I have no doubt someone will tell me Ok so here are the candidates in no particular order. Rather that looking at a direct recommendation, I think I'm looking for opinions of how these cabs sound with different amps etc, especially if you've owned more that one of the cabs. Oh, it's got to sound good with a low B too. BFM Omni 12 Top (maybe without the tweeters) as recommended by Thumper Aguilar GS112 x 2 (or even the DB112s as they are less mid-scooped. this solution appeals to my modular ideas. The 2x10 I played in the gallery, a while back, sounded very nice with the Epi UL502 head) Epifany UL310 (just how hi-fi are these cabs in comparison to the Accugroove?) EA CXL-112, with a view to getting another at a later stage - again not sure if this would sound too clean. Schroeder 1212 ? I should also add that my basses are far from "vintage" style basses. If I'm barking up the wrong tree, then feel free to direct me to the correct piece of timber. I'll leave it at that for now, as I'm being kicked of the computer! cheers G
Hi G, Not sure how much help this will be, but I've just bought three DB112 cabs and a DB750 head. I would say the tone I get from this rig is warm and less bright than my GK head. It's the amp with all its valves doing this, rather than the cabs. So I guess you need to think about the head when your talking tone. I've kept my gk head to use with two DB cabs if needed. The sound from both heads is totally different. (the DB750 will disembowel you and take your head off at the same time!) But if you decide on the Aguilar DB112 cabs, rest assured, they can handle a low B without problem. Nice and sensitive too. Cheers Ian
 2.
Looks great! Definately fancy a couple of those db cabs. Maybe Bass Merchant would take my Tech 4x12 back as a trade-in...
I'd recommend them! They've got lovely tweeters in them. They aren't neo speakers - so not as light as you'd expect.
 3. Don't know why these aren't selling! Sold two on ebay £675 & £630. Offers?
 4.
Looks impressive. Dont they do a sleeve to match?
Yep they do a head case, but no removeable front or rear cover. So I thought this is gonna protect ok. I've got a proper 3u rack case, but its gonna make it too heavy! The amp on its own already weighs as much as an epifani 410UL!!
 5. It took a while coming, but my Aguilar rig is finally here! I took a chance with the cabs, being the new DB112's. I'd heard the GS equivalents and was well impressed. These are even better. Superb build quality - and not too heavy. Only one speakon on each cab though, so using three cabs I have had to resort to using a jack to jack to link two cabs, and then speakons thereafter. The DB750 is an absolute monster. It weighs a ton, but has the tone to match. It's not naturally or artificially bright like my GK1001, but has this great underlying bass depth that the GK doesn't have. After all a bass is meant to sound bassy! You can roll the bass control to zero, and it is still a very weighty sound! After reading the thread on 'swtich-on' problems and tripping circuits, I was a bit nervous. But all was ok. I set the input to passive, even though I'm using a 55-94 bass, and could push the gain nearly to max before I got a hint of tube distortion. I guess the Laklands output isn't too high. I've yet to use it at a gig, but so far first impressions are fantastic. Its a shame the cabs aren't about an inch or two wider so the amp doesn't hang over the edges! Or have two handles. Here's some pics... Cheers Ian
 6.
Anybody tried one of these? The prices look too good to be true !
Haven't heard of them. Where did you see them? Got a link?
 7.
An interesting approach. Do the DB's come without tweeter like the GS?
Like the GS112 cabs, the DB's come with or without tweeters. I'm getting three with tweeters.
 8. Thanks guys! Interesting to her Gary Willis has a similar setup. Cheers Ian
 9.
I have no idea why you can't shift these..
Neither do I!! These are brand new, with warranty, they are not seconds. Manufactured in Sept this year. Perhaps I'm selling them tooo cheap, and people are wary? How about £900 then!!!
 10.
3 12s... not the norm but when the amp can run down to 2 ohms why not!
I may go for four cabs in time, but we'll see how 3 sounds!
 11. Bump with a new price. These are £1200 from a shop!
 12. I should be collecting my new rig next week comprising an Aguilar DB750 head and three DB112 cabs (in green!). I'll try and do a review once I've gigged with it, as a few of you are keen to see how the DB cabs perform compared to the GS range. I hope it'll be loud enough, as full power would require 4 cabs. Cheers Ian
 13.
Ok i'm first for a free one .
They are now on ebay with no reserve. Go on, 'av a bid!
 14. Just accepted an offer of £750 for one. That's cheaper than the 500w model. A genuine bargain.
 15. Here's a link to some bargain Ashdown heads for sale. It was moved to the special offers section Thanks Ian <a href="http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...amp;hl=klystron" target="_blank">http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...amp;hl=klystron</a>
 16.
compared to the GS112 to increase the midrange sensitivity at the expense of some fatness in the lows.
I'm hoping they will cope with a low B without any problem. They have the same low frequency handling as the GS. They are heavy for a 1x12, but still better than lugging a 4x10 around! I'm surprised they only have one handle though. I took the plunge earlier and ordered three of them, in monster green. The tweed is nice though! I'll let the forum know what I think of them, also the DB750. Should be a nice compact rig.
 17. Useful comments guys, but I assume no ones used one? Interesting comments about porting Alex, thanks. Ian
 18. I saw those for sale, and then realised they were GS cabs, and used words substantially stronger than d'oh!!!
 19. Oooh , I like that pic. That's what mine might look like except 3 cabs high, and monster green! I don't know what difference rear ported makes, but I guess its why these are supposed to be 'louder' than any other 1x12 on the market (according to Aggy)
 20. I've read great reviews of the GS112 cabs, although some say it has a natural mid-scoop sound to it. The DB112 is supposed to eliminate that, so I'd be keen to hear from anyone who has used one. I'm looking at getting three to go with my DB750 head. Cheers Ian
 21.
I've just purchased a rather beautiful Jazz Bass body blank from this gentleman, for a very reasonable price too! Everything went nicely without a hitch, it was swiftly delivered and (very) well packed, took me close to ten minutes to unwrap infact! Highly recommended, A+++ as they say in ebay-land! cheers - Dan
Thanks Dan. Can't wait to see the finished pics. Cheers Ian
