1.
Nice Surine !!! are you considering trades ? Best of luck with the sales
Thanks! Not really interested in trades at this time, no. Need money for wedding.
2.
isnt norway in the EU?? if so, you'l pay no import tax
No, we're still a free country! But there are a lot of other trade agreements floating around. I don't know much about how that works. You'd better ask Shaggy - he has first-hand experience.
3. You know, it's quite possible that me and the GF will be visiting London sometime this fall. If we are, I'll post it here - someone might get free shipping that way.
4.
What scale length and what string spacing is the Surine ?.
String spacing is 18 mm - very comfortable IMO. Scale length is 35". (I actually thought it was 34" for some reason)
5. I would really prefer to keep the speakers paired up, particularily because of the flight case which fits both of them. That case would be rather worthless with only one speaker, would it not? Besides, if you like the sound of one speaker, you'll LOVE the pair! But, I'm not going to say a definete "no" to you. After all, if I get two buyers who each want one, we could probably reach some agreement. I'll let you know if someone else contacts me wanting a single AccuGroove Tri-112L.
6. Don't know what happened to the nice penguin - it should be back now though. What will I have left? I don't know, it kond of depends on what, if anything, gets sold. I still have an unfinished Warmoth project though (fretless 4), so I'll at least have that. Most likely I won't enjoy parting with these instruments, but we ought to keep in mind that they are just that: instruments. They can be replaced. And will be, if the need arises. And, as mentioned above, if I could choose only one to keep, it'd be the Conklin. What a fantastic instrument! Currency conversion rate as of today: 1 NOK = 0.101649 GBP So it's about ten to one. A custom Conklin 9 for £2500 GBP in other words. It's a steal, innit?
7. I am offering for sale all my high end bass guitar equipment. Have no fear, I am not giving up bass playing. Roland V-Bass

No. The V-Bass does not do bass-to-MIDI. There isn't any MIDI sound generation happening in there. It's all advanced signal processing. For bass-to-MIDI (piano, horn, drum sounds for example) you need a guitar synth, like the Roland GR-20 or the Axon. The V-Bass does very good bass synth though. I've used it quite a bit, it sounds excellent (and is fully polyphonic).
11. Thanks for the comments! Alas I have to quit this gospel choir as I'm moving from the city and the school where the choir belongs. Last gig is on Saturday. It'd be very cool to keep the groove going but logistics makes it rather impossible I'm afraid. It has been a blast learning the black gospel genre though, it's like nothing else and I've barely got me feet wet, so to speak. So much good stuff in these gospel bassists, I'm flabbergasted. Eh, anyway. Glad you dig it! I was supposed to get a DVD with some concert video footage as well, but I haven't seen it. Don't know if it'll ever come. If it does, I'll upload some of that as well.
12.
Oooooh - y'all got that Kirk Franklin thing going on - I like!!! Still going through 'em - great playing on "Breakthrough"! Tak!!
Thanks! I was pondering wether I should publicly apologize in advance for my freak-out on "Breakthrough" - I just went for it, and IMO some of it works and some doesn't quite work...
13. Hello I put together an albums worth of live recordings from our last two gigs. You can download the whole thing here. And, for those interested: I used my Surine Regency X six-string bass for tracks 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, and the beginning and end of 12 and 13. This bass is fitted with the Roland GK pickup and played through the Roland V-Bass system, except track 9 which is only piezo pickup. For the remaining tracks (4, 6, 10, 11, 14 and the middle section of 12 and 13 -- track 5 has no bass) I used my Conklin 9-string, no processing. Alas, the bass is a little low in the mix on the gig where I used the Conklin. But it does sound great.
14.
I'm up near Hønefoss, about 65 km north of Oslo. Do you live over here or are you out here working?
I'm quite Norwegian by heritage. Lived here pretty much all my life. I've never really been to Hønefoss though. I'm studying for a BA in music here in Kristiansand. And there's no snow here, that's long gone. It was like this for a while though.
15. Hello from Norway back. Where are you in this beautiful country? Anywhere near Kristiansand in the very south? Or Stavanger in the south-west?

Roland V-Bass

Very cool. I do think there's a MIDI patch dump on the V-Bass but I have never used it. I don't know how to do that stuff. The GK cables are available from other brands too, like Axon and Yamaha. But I recon the Roland ones are easiest to get. Any Roland dealer can get them for you - they probably have to order them though, at leas here in Norway very few have them in stock. Be aware that these 13-pin cables are rather fragile compared to the regular mono jack cables. Handle them carefully. And buy one or two to have as backup cables, it wouldn't be nice to have one go and not have a backup.
17. Yes, very nice indeed! Specs are much like the Antony Jackson contrabass, no? one pickup, six strings, 36" scale..... I assume it sounds massive.

Roland V-Bass

Hey, thanks. I have never played a Smith myself, so it must have been luck if I nailed it that well. It is probably my favourite patch though, at least for the gospel gig. Speaking of gospel, here are some sound clips from the new CD. The subtleties of the sound doesn't quite come through on the recording, alas. But it's all V-Bass.
19. More power is needed for a clean sound, particularily with solid state amplifiers. The short transients need lots of power reserve to avoid clipping. This is of course in large part due to the rather slow transient response of most box speakers. Horns are often much better in this regard, but they need to be rather too large to give the desired bass response. How was it? you need to double amplifier power in order to attain a 3dB increase in sound pressure level? I'm not quite sure, perhaps I remember wrong. My own amplifier is the Eden WT800 head, it will give 400W RMS per side in 4 ohm. But my cabs are 8 ohm, so it'll probably let out between 200W and 300W RMS. More in peak, luckily. It gives a pretty clear sound through my two AccuGroove Tri-112L cabs. It is powerful enough for most situations. But still, I've been in venues that seem so eat up the bass sound, and I've felt the need for more power. IMO high power amplifiers are a good thing. Too many times have I felt the inadequacies of low(er) power combos, we have many of those at school.
20. Or you might try one of these. Personally I think the Novax fanned-fret instrument is more in the spirit of a guitar with some added bass range.
21. I do. One finger per fret typically.

Roland V-Bass

I replied to your thread on TB but here's some more: solo sound clips and some sound clips from a studio recording with the gospel choir. I definetly think the V-Bass is a worthy piece of kit.
23. I put together a Warmoth 4-string from some bits that were on sale at the Warmoth site and it's quite good - I use it regularly. Here are some photos and stuff. And these days I'm putting together another one, a fretless made of bubinga wood. Ought to be nice.
24. Some nice rigs here, indeed. I particularily like the AccuGroove rig of 6stringbassist - is that two Tri-115L cabs? Nice.... Here's mine, this is an older photo but it remains the same. One Eden WT800 amp and two AccuGroove Tri-112L cabs. Usually placed on top of the speaker flight case, makes it look as big as it sounds.
25.
I'm a big fan of the Delano pickups. Sure that will sound killer. Enjoy! Edit: Although they are sandberg branded?? Am I being thick?
I do believe those are :: branded DeLano pickups yes. And :: branded ETS bridge too?
