  1. I don't know so much about tapping sounds but I have tapped the pickups with various metal implements and the magnet stops short of the G. You can feel the pull drops off.

  3. Forgive me if it's obvious but when are said bashes? I figured about the Pickups but even so it is very odd to get four misbuilt ones direct from EMG.
  4. I've been on a bit of a journey with my Euro. I have taken the tonepump out and added an LHZ3 in. I took the pair of EMG TWs out and added in a EMG 40p5 and a 40J, essentially trying to turn a 5 string euro into a classic split p + J 1980s NS. Only issue has been...EMG. The first attempt had a p5 where the width of the magnets didn't cover the G. As such the G is weak sounding and bad to play. I tried a second EMGP5...same problem. Have any of you experienced this? The other issue is that the 40J is....quiet. notably less output than the 40P5. I'm not running a blend pot. It's two seperate volumes. But I'm having to ballpark a blend by rolling off the p5 because it just bullies the J. And I hate doing that. Just feels like it's not working as it was meant to. Have any of you experienced a quiet J? I've had two of them. Both quiet. Lastly, I'm abandoning the P5 and trying the six string 40p. This might cover the G. I am taking a risk that the A will get caught between two rails and be weak. But we will see - it can only be as bad as the 40p5 farce. Have any of you ever tried this out? Overall, I've tried to mod a Euro and I'm on the verge of cathartically defenestrating the entire thing. I didn't care for the sound of a satin finished Euro maple fretboard with the tonepump and TWs. I'm chasing the classic Spector tone. Trying to undercut the US model because I can't afford one brand new (£6500+). I'm running out of ideas. I've seen a bit of chat from some of you LHZ modders and I wonder if you have any tips because so far I'm feeling like I have botched this 'un. Anyway. Tinketytonk.
  5. I don't know the specifics. I've spoken to a few folk. From what I gather it's the difference between a factory and a workshop. The handmade touch and attention to detail. As to what those techniques are, I ain't no luthier. But even then, the level of nuance may extend all the way down to the specific piece of wood it's carved from. One piece of maple is not identical to another piece of maple. A couple of weeks ago I played four spectors and recorded them badly on my phone. All felt like they belonged in the same family but they were not twins. And the US instruments just felt different in the hands to the Euro ones. The growl seemed to sit in a slightly higher frequency of mid and the resonance was stronger. Relatives. Not twins. Not even little brothers. Close cousins I'd say.
  6. Cool response. Yes, I would genuinely be interested to hear that. I've fallen far enough down the Spector rabbithole that I'm all into the tonechasing of that classic Spector sound. Woods, preamps, pickups, build etc...obsessing over nuances. You start thinking 6K is fair and reasonable to get exactly what you want...
  7. Hey Sean, looking at that ebony/maple pair, do you have an opinion on how those different fretboard woods influence the tone, and perhaps with a conparison to the usual Pau Ferro? I'm curious.

Plays very well, lovely neck, about 9lbs in weight, balances well - no classic Thunderbird neck dive here.   16. Hi guys, Last night I saw an odd build on a small stage at a gig. The bassist had a very desirable set up. A beautiful high end Spector going into a Darkglass Microtubes 500. However, he was also employing a Darkglass B7k and a Darkglass Vintage tubes, plus a bunch of other pedals I didn't recognize; but it was very Darkglass dominated. I asked him about it after the gig. He told me that the Darkglass Microtubes 500 amp was just for the stage cab but the b7k and the vintage tubes etc etc were all daisy chained up and going direct into the PA. The Darkglass Microbes 500 was not. Considering the Microbes 500 has the capacity to replicate the b7k easy enough AND is has a DI output on it.....I can't get my head around what the point of this was. Ultimately, I understand people like their tone and can be very specific, but the sound in this small venue was so messy and loud that it was generally an indiscernible low end racket and I can't imagine that the subtitles of the set up translated at all. So, if you have a great power amplifier with a DI port, why employ a pre amp pedal that does the same thing ? Is this crazy or regular practice? I show up to gigs with a minimum of two pedals and have my amp mic'ed and DI'd. My brain hurts. Help. A
