Hi everyone, Been ages since I posted here. I've been busy, particularly with my project Goodfoot. To date we've released 2 tracks, and have a third on the way that will form an EP. More on the way later this year! We're definitely in the funk/soul/r&b bracket. Let me know what you think anyway! Anita download/stream All I Can Give download/stream We also do some live-looping covers. Here's the first one, which is loosely based around 'Who's That Lady' by the Isley Brothers. Cheers! Huw

BL007 Slap in E with superfast fill New video! I used the EQ on my Darkglass B7K for this one. Bass boosted, low-mids cut, treble boosted a small amount. Transcription and backing track at http://www.huwfoster.co.uk/bl007/ Enjoy!
I cannot stand solo bass stuff. Endless self indulgent dross. Really, bass is to be played with people. The ensemble thing is what it is all about in my not so humble opinion. So why am I digging this? I'm not sure, but I am
Haha, I think I agree with you on most solo bass arrangements (glad you like mine though!). Tbh I'm not sure why I started doing them... Thanks for the kind words everyone!
Hi Huw. Nicely played! I enjoyed that Performance videos are usually posted in the 'Share Your Music' sub-forum of the Recording section. But no bother.., I'll move the thread next chance I get. Cheers, Paul
Cheers Paul!

Hmmm... should this go in the 'share your music' sub? Sorry if so.

Hey guys, Hope it's OK to post my solo bass arrangements here. Here's the most recent one: Marvin Gaye - 'What's Going On' For anyone interested in the tech specs, here they are: - Japanese non-export 62RI Jazz (bought from a basschatter called Josh a few years ago) - Line 6 M9 for reverb and delay (I usually add reverb afterwards, but I wanted to switch on the delay for the bridge so I used a moderate amount of both on the way in) - DI'd through Darkglass B7K (switched off though) - a bit of compression and cut below 80Hz in Logic - Canon EOS550 The playlist is here. I don't profess to be a technical wizard. There's the occasional blemish. However, I hope you agree they're all played with soul. I'm really keen to do them more often, which is why I want to have a thread going. I've got some more collaborations in the works too. Watch this space! Thanks, Huw

Calling out all teachers - let's exchange ideas
Huw Foster replied to mike313's topic in Theory and Technique
This is a great idea. I've started using the Wooten exercise thanks to this thread. I like the repetition of phrases as presented in the RGT grade books. You tell the student the key and the root note, then it's usually a 2-bar phrase. It gets increasingly difficult as you go up the grades, ie not starting on the root note, use of modes etc. I'll try to think of some fun exercises I use in lessons. Mostly it is teaching songs or improv, with a bit of sightreading though! -
Great synth sound. What pedals are you using?
Hey Roland. In the video I go through my signal chain in detail, but I'll post it here: Octabvre You're Doom Proton Phaser (Line 6 M9) I also use the EHX Micro Synth for synth sounds quite a lot. Cheers! H
Hey Huw, Just wanted to say I really dig the stuff on your channel and these latest bassline videos! Thanks and I hope you have the time once in a while to keep adding to them.
Thanks Tandro! Just came back to post a new one. I'll hopefully have some time over the summer to do more of these. BL006 Synth bass jam 2 Inspired by my new 3 Leaf Audio pedals. Enjoy! Hey everyone, I've got a series of original bass tutorials on my youtube channel. No covers, but sometimes I'll do videos that are influenced by certain bassists (e.g. Marcus Miller). Here's the playlist: I've been adding to it sporadically, but I'm aiming to keep it more frequent now. Here's the most recent one, a funky picked riff with some tasty fills. Transcriptions and backing tracks available on my website: huwfoster.co.uk Cheers!

Thanks Bluejay! Another video is due this weekend... -
Last November I played at the London Jazz Festival with Narcissus. It was absolutely terrifying! I don't really consider myself a jazz musician, so more so for that reason... Anyway, we recorded video & audio for the whole gig. We're releasing one video per week at the moment. Here's what is on youtube so far: Part One: "Untitled" Part Two: "Mirror Stage" Part Three: "Dependency" Part Four: "Criss Cross" Let me know what you think! Hope it's OK to post this here. An artist I play with has recently released his debut single, complete with a video shot by an award-winning filmmaker in Melbourne. Thom Cross - Heavy Sea No rabbits were harmed in the making of this video. I played bass on the track - used my 62RI Jazz (Japanese non-export). It was mixed by Guy Massey (he's won a flipping GRAMMY!) so it sounds huuuuuge. Hope you enjoy it! Huw
