  1. Congrats! Those are great sounding and playing basses.
  2. Great bass! I have two of that series, one in Mercury and the other is Sunburst. The necks are really excellent. Enjoy!
  3. I have one in the exact same colour. Great basses. Congratulations on yours.
  4. The strings that worked best for me on the one I had, sold to thin the herd, were DR Hi Beams and EB Cobalt Rounds. The advice you got above regarding the preamp is gold. This bass is also very sensitive to pickup height. Don’t be afraid to experiment with the setup. Build quality is very good on these basses.
  5. I’m using Hi Beams on a number of my P basses. Love them. Definitely my favourite string. No issues moving into Drop D with them. I also like Lo Riders which, as already mentioned, have a great punch.
  6. Congrats! These are great basses that sound and feel great. I have the mercury one with rosewood fretboard. I love it.
  7. Vintera has more vintage specs including a wider nut than the Player. More vintage fret wire as well. The Vintera replaced the Classic series of MIM basses. Both the Player and Vintera series sound good and it boils down to personal preference. You will need to play both to get a sense of which works for you. The MIJ Precisions, well that depends on which model. The have more variety in their specs and they generally are a great value with excellent build quality.
  8. I’m very happy with my roasted pine American Pro II Jazz V. Light weight, balances nicely and sounds good. Worth investigating. Pictured here with my Xotic Jazz V, which is also light.
  9. DR Pure Blues are very consistent in quality, tone and feel. I use them on a couple basses and they are strung through the body. No issues there. They last quite a long time.
  10. Looks great! I have one in sunburst inbound for Monday. I hope you enjoy this one for quite some time.
  11. Those are great basses and it has such a nice classic look. Congrats!
  12. Congrats on the bass! I have one and I’m pretty pleased with it. The only bass I keep flats on. Quite a solid rocker.
  13. I had a Japanese GL and also found it a bit weighty. Sounded great but had to go. That white body would look good with either a maple fretboard and black pickguard (think Dee Dee Ramone) or a very dark fretboard and a mint or brown tort guard. Either looks like you have another interesting project on your hands.
  14. Looks great! I would totally play that. Any plans to change the pickguard?
