  1. I ended up buying the Alto TX12S in the end. I was quite put off by a lot of the other ones in my price range due to the weight. This one is only ~20 kg. All the others I was looking at were >40kg. We don’t have a particularly sophisticated PA and we only play small venues (pubs mainly), so I’m hoping this budget Alto sub can get the job done!
  2. Ok, got it now - thanks. Pardon my ignorance, but this sub appears to only have a 'thru' and not a separate filtered output as well - does that mean their output won't have a HPF applied to them? If the sub does/doesn't send the signal to the tops with a HPF, how much of a difference does that make? Will it put the tops under more strain if it hasn't had a HPF, as they're still receiving all the low end from the original signal?
  3. I believe the tops are ALTO TX310
  4. Do you have a link to this ebay item? I can't find anything when searching those terms.
  5. Hi guys, I'm looking to get a sub for my pub band so that we can keep stage volume down a bit. We are on a mission to get our volume down so are transitioning to an electronic kit. Up until this point it has been an acoustic drum kit, occasionally with the kick mic'd, and then my bass has never gone through the PA - it's all coming from my amp. We want to change so that we put the electronic kit and my bass through the PA, but still have my amp on stage at a much lower volume for some monitoring. I've found these two options that both come in under £350 and are also relatively light weight (<25 kg): Alto TX12S -900W 12-inch Subwoofer, DSP-Enhanced Powered PA Speaker with 2-inch Voice Coil VONYX SWA18 18" Active PA Subwoofer - 1000W DJ Powered Subwoofer Speaker with Low-Pass Filter Does anyone have any experience with these? Also open to other options that come in under £350 and won't break my back! (I've seen lots of Behringer subs that look like they might fit the bill but are >40 kg!). Additional question (I'm brand new to subwoofers!): The two subs I've listed above have an 'input' and a 'thru' on the back. I presume that the 'thru' is going to be processed with a HPF applied (set to which ever frequency you have selected), and the PA tops won't be getting anything over the cut-off. I ask because I have seen other subs with an 'input', a 'thru' (which is unprocessed), and an 'output' which has the HPF applied to it.
  6. Try as I might, I just can't get on with a 5 string bass. I'm therefore intrigued to know what people use for a 4 string bass tuned BEAD? Would you consider a multiscale 4 string essential for BEAD, or could you get away with a regular 34 inch scale bass? I don't really want to have to faff around mod-ing the hell out of the tuning peg and/or nut to take a B string gauge. There don't appear to be many 4 string multiscale options out there outside of Dingwall. I'm not a huge fan of the Dingwall sound - plus they're very expensive! If anyone has any experience with these I'd be keen to find out more about these: Ibanez SRMS800 G4M 972 Fanned Fret Bass Guitar Let me know if there are any other basses I should check out (preferably on the more affordable end of the spectrum).
  7. I know BF make a three10, but as someone who already owns a two10 I'm curious how different my gigging experience would be by adding one more 10 inch speaker. For context I play in a classic rock covers band, mostly pubs and smaller venues. My two10 is a 4 ohm one, so combined with an 8 ohm one10 I should be fine as my head (genzler magellan 350) can go down to 2.67 ohms. Owning a two10 and a one10 sounds like a very versatile rig. You could play through one, two or three speakers depending on the situation. Everything from home practice to bigger stages would be covered. If anyone out there has tried it - please let me know your experience and if you think it's worth investing in an additional cab. i.e. does it really make that much difference or shall I just save my pennies and stop GAS-ing?
  8. Any positive or negative experiences with this? Bonus points if you have already had experience with the regular pro co rat 2
  9. I’ve actually just picked up a second hand rig: a genzler Magellan 350 and a Barefaced two10. It sounds awesome at home and I’m looking forward to trying it at gigs over the next two weekends. I really like the EQ section and contour knobs on the Genzler, I think the orange contour channel is going to be really handy in a live setting.
  10. New amp day! Can't wait to test it out on a gig.

  11. Yes. I have massively overthought this 😅 thank you
  12. Ah I hadn't considered that!
  13. Take two outputs from the pedal and put them into the same amp: OUT - (affected tone) into the return of the effects loop and into the power amp PARALLEL OUT - (unaffected tone) into the input of the amp so it goes through the pre amp of the bass amp itself I run this pedal at the end of my board, so I wondered if it could be a way of blending two different preamp sounds through one amp (utilising the preamp of the pedal AND the preamp in the bass amp)?
  14. Check out my recent cover of Hysteria by Muse:

Very good. Sound nailed (which FX are you using, out of interest?), consistent playing, all the right notes in the right order :)
      I admire your stamina!

Thanks mate! See attached pic for my pedal board which pretty much covers the signal chain (these weren't the settings, just a random pic).
For my tone on this cover, I didn't use the wah, flanger or octave pedals.... so the tone is basically:
Compressor, line selector (Rat in one chain, Bass EQ in the other) then out to the sansamp VT bass DI and into my interface.

Hope that helps! There's a video on my YouTube channel from about a year ago where I go through my board if you want to check out more :D

  15. Ah man, if only you were closer! Leeds is a bit too far to travel for me (I'm based in North Kent), otherwise I'd be all over it!.
  16. Have you ever used this on it's own in a rock setting without PA support? I'm quite interested in one of these but just wondering if it's up to the task...
  17. Does anyone know how this compares to the Peavey mini max Mk2? Both ~£350, both 600W.... They seem like great options for lightweight powerful heads, which is exactly what I'm after...
  18. I’ve checked as many videos online of these things as I can find but I think I just want to hear them myself tbh. My pedal board and playing style will be different to whoever is demoing the gear so I’d like to have first hand experience with this stuff if possible.
  19. Ah! Thanks for the heads up. I will call in advance to see what they have in.
  20. I am thinking of doing this one day in March, potentially go to Brighton and visit both GAK and the Barefaced HQ and try as much as I can!
  21. Hello bass players! Are any of you based in North Kent? Can I try your rig!? I'm looking to get a new amp and am struggling to find shops that have the gear I’m interested in to try it out. I wondered if it would be possible to meet up with some of my local bass player buddies on this forum to try their gear out. I’m looking to get a lightweight head with 200-600W and some light weight 10 or 12 inch speaker cabs to pair with it (either 210, 112 or 212). Some of the gear I’ve seen Online that interests me includes: cabs -barefaced two10s or supertwin - orange obc112 - Ashdown 112 or 210 evo lightweight stuff amps - trace Elliot elf - peavey minimax mk2 - Ashdown ant - orange little bass thing/terror bass - Warwick gnome series I’m equally open to trying other products that fit the criteria of lightweight portable things that don’t break the bank, so if there’s something that you think I should check out that isn’t on this list please get in touch. So…if you’re in the area (I am based in Gravesend) and happy to make a new bass friend please let me know and maybe we can arrange a bass play date some time 🤘😁🤘
  22. I had a Quick Look at those suggestions of tecamp, but as you say, a little over my budget sadly.
  23. The Warwick gnome I pro 600W and the Ashdown Ant seem to be the front runners for me. Both similar in price and within budget. the ant is slightly smaller and lighter so it could fit on my pedal board (extra portability points), but then for only ~£20 extra the Warwick seems to have more features - 4 band EQ, effects loop (so I could use it just as a light weight 600W power amp by going through the return), two speaker outputs, aux input, higher power rating, I’m not sure I need the usb interface feature but hey!
  24. I’ve seen that one and thought it looked like it might fit the bill! Have you tried one?
