1.
No - a 4-string fretless Bubinga Corvette and a 5-string fretless Swamp-ash Corvette. My orignal post was about the 4-string, which went to a long serving menber of their forum, and the 5-string to a newby who posted in 'wanted'. He lives just down the road from me and paid cash when he collected.
Yes I knew about the Corvette but I'd heard that Flo picked up a Thumb 5 from the UK... so 2 + 2 = 5
 2.
I thought the purpose of this thread was to talk bollocks not enter into deep discussion on the meaning of over-rated.
Correct! I 'was' talking b*ll*cks but it sounded good
 3. Without wishing to incur the wrath of all Fender owners (about 75% of the bass playing community, so that's quite a few enemies)... Fender owners 'can' be quite traditional, if they weren't then they'd be playing one of the many other Fender-alikes on the market. Hence Fender may branch out (as in this case) every now and again but they always come back to the tried and tested. I do recall these being released and though they did offer some advantages over your standard Jazz (the Kubicki inspired/copied controls NOT being one of them) buyers avoided them en masse and they were knocked out in bargain sales in dealerships all over! Not to say that it isn't a good bass... but I wouldn't pin your retirement/pension fund on it
 4.
Ah, finally some intelligence! But then you like Warwicks
... and I over-rate myself
 5. The original query asks who 'you' think is over-rated... surely if you list a bassist that you don't like, that then means that they can't be over-rated. You don't rate them at all, hence they can not by definition be over-rated by you
 6. Among other things I suppose that age, condition and colour (yes believe me, colour on basses affects their value as much as any other consumer commodity) are going to affect any value. Stick some pics up with a more detailed description of the overall condition. How much you paid for it shouldn't have any affect on its present value... however, you emigrating and how quickly that is likely to happen have a direct relationship on its value
 7. Brandi Carlile-The Story Hardly difficult but a great song with the chance to really shine through the dynamic range of it.
 8.
Me
+1 for me... (before anyone else does it )
 9. I've tried the polite approach of asking a few of the newbies to pop over and introduce themselves (which some have) but I begin to feel like a fussy tw*t as I'm pretty much one of the few that does. I'd personally sign up to the Beedster approach that if a newbie comes on and starts selling straight away I'd like to be able to tell them a few home truths (obviously only if applicable) without fear of public stoning from a section of BC who would consider me a bully or worse! damned if I do; damned if I don't
 10.
Have you seen this: http://www2.ebay.com/aw/uk/200804.shtml#2008-04-21085253 Sell from a different PC (i.e. at work) and they'll want to 'phone you for permission?!?!
Well it has started, I think I'll change my user ID to Nostradamus
 11.
FCS have made '62 NOS/relics but they didn't have stacked controls as far as I'm aware (not sure if all original '62 Jazzes had stacked controls). Chris

No I don't think there is a CS 62. Normally CS's are 64's
If I can unravel our conversation in my head, I seem to recall asking if it was a stack-knob and it wasn't it was a 3 control model. I 'think' stack-knobs were only ever used briefly in 61/62 so he may well have said that it was a 62 but meant 62 onwards. I'll suss it out when I see it or I can ask some further focused questions. Still not much idea of what sort of figure he wants for it or what it is worth!
 12.
Yeah, but my initial incredulence was because I thought it was down to cash payment full stop!! I'm just been and handed £150 over for an AXL acrylic P bass which I was more than happy with!!
Seriously, if eBay had their way you'd not be able to do anything unless it was transacted through eBay and PayPal. It won't be long before you have to use their ISP or have an email account with them or some other way of binding you so that they can control things and squeeze more money out of you. I say all of this but I still buy and sell on eBay every single day... not found an alternative way to fuel my disorder yet
 13.
I just sold a bass on the Warwick forum, half the cash up front, by bank transfer, half the cash on delivery, by bank transfer, and about 10 e-mails between us so we both knew what was going on. David
Would that have been a NT 5 string Thumb destined for Flo?
 14. I've had sales pulled in the past for stating in the listing that I'd accept cash by recorded delivery only (i.e. I was stating that people should NOT send cash by any other means), we're only talking £10-£50 but eBay pulled them all the same. TBH they want the whole world to use PayPal and thus world banking domination will follow... they are tw*ts!
 15. Crickey! Without listing the whole lot (CDs) is it possible to give an idea of what sort of stuff you have?
 16.
This isn't totally accurate. I bought the bass after it had been up 2 days and sold it within a week(ish).
I wasn't directing my comment at you or anyone in particular and I was just generalising about that bass. Peter had it up for a while, gradually dropping the price, then Mark had it up for a short while, then yourself with the price gradually dropping etc. It did 'seem like' that bass was on here from start to finish for quite some time and people weren't selling limbs to get it regardless of how much the price was reduced. I'm not siding with anyone on this issue. I'm trying to play Devil's Advocate and point out that it just happened to be one of 'those' basses (and we've had a few) that people haven't settled on and they are generally good basses with nothing wrong with them. However if a bass is going to skulk around on here like a kicked dog it may as well be put on eBay and find an owner elsewhere. At any given time in that basses time among its various owners, one of them could have stuck it on eBay but no one did. That's a choice that people made for whatever reason. TBH had I been struggling to sell a bass on here and someone had taken it off me, stuck it on eBay and made a profit I'd be applauding them. At the end of the day I'd have gotten the price that I had offered it at The point about any deal re. the pup for the bass, is a separate issue that I'm not familiar with.
 17. No, I'm almost certain the guy isn't a knock-off merchant. He was just very scatty, jovial, eccentric. He knew about the bass that he had for sale he wasn't vague about it but we seemed to discuss 20 different things in the space of 10 minutes that I lost track of what was discussed It appears he has a fair old collection of genuine vintage instruments but wants to branch out. No I've no concerns in that respect, I just don't know enough about pricing etc.
 18. I've just had a rather odd conversation (which I'm still trying to make sense of ) with a guy about part-exing his Fender against one of my Warwicks. Bottom line is that he has a Custom Shop 62 Jazz, may even be a 'relic' (part of the odd conversation) and he wants something different probably a Warwick. He's giving me a call back to arrange a day to pop over and try a few different things but I want to be fore-armed before he gets here. Ideally I'd like to know if anyone would be interested in this Fender as I'm 99% certain that I don't want an expensive Jazz sitting around the house doing nothing (too many basses doing that already, hence a few more going). It is either black or sunburst (again sorry for the hazy details but it was an odd conversation that seem to bounce around so many different avenues each time one of us asked the other a question) with a tortie plate, complete with case, candy and tags etc. I don't have a number for the guy so I can't confirm till he gets back to me but I'll post full spec asap. Please PM me and let me know if this is of interest as I'll not take it if it's going to sit around like a lemon. I'd also appreciate any input with a possible value as I'm a bit clueless with the present state of pricing for anything other than Warwicks
 19. I don't quite get this people! This bass sat on this forum for weeks and was reduced time and time again... no one put their hand in their pocket and bought it. We all expressed interest and wished that it was this or that but at the end of the day someone pulled the folding stuff out and did what no one else had done, they bought it. What happens after that is pretty much immaterial! I'd have serious doubts about putting something back on here after it had been passed back and forth between 3/4 owners in as many weeks and had seen a price fall of £150+ in that time... it starts to look like a Jonah and would seem to be a waste of time and effort putting it back on BC, no body wanted it when it had 3/4 careful owners, who the f*ck would be serious about it after 4/5 owners? It's not like we are talking about some one post wonder who has snagged a bargain on ebay and then tried to flip a quick profit on here. This bass was offered to one and all for a v e r y long time and we all passed it up. Let it rest.
 20.
i'm pretty sure the signal does go through the valves since it is a valve pre amp unless the circuit shorts really badly i don't see how they would and why you'd go to the effort to make the signal not pass through them
Sorry, I may not have explained very well, I'm not saying the signal doesn't go through the valve but on certain amps this isn't always the case. When I was looking into this some years ago there were certain amps that split the signal and ran it parallel; one going through the valve the other going to the next stage (EQ), don't ask me why but I'm sure there was a techie reason why this was good practice! IIRC this was also supported by the fact that certain amps have a bleed control that alters how much of the signal goes through the valve. Again IIRC when these were first 'fashionable' there was discussion in Bass Player magazine about how much of any given signal was actually running through the valve and the effect that it had on tone.
 21. Hey Lee. If you're talking one valve (12ax7 / ECC83) in the preamp I have to confess that from experience there is sometimes not a huge amount of difference in the tone between valves. The EBS may be different but I've had 4 valve fronted amps and I bought a whole selection of tubes at one point (sorry they've all gone) to try in the front end and the difference was negligeable! I had H&K, Groove Tubes, Rubies, EH, Mullard etc and even though I tried all of them in all of the different amps over the course of a couple of years they didn't make enough difference for me to justify one over the other. I'm not saying that would be the case in all amps or that valve amps wouldn't be affected to a greater degree by the choice of preamp valve(s) but in the case of a single valve in the front end of a basically solid state amp I didn't notice any massive difference. I could be wrong (step in and correct me techies) but I have a feeling that many of these valve fronted amps actually don't send 100% of the signal through the valve, which could account for the lack of obvious difference
 22.
You got all excited didnt you.... ?
You just never know do you Just having a browse to see what's what and you come across a BIN for a dinky bass cab at a ridiculous price... you've got to have a look
That guy has fooled me several times with those descriptions! Like the new avatar Warwickhunt.
His description detail is fine and I know he's just trying to generate as much attention as possible (heck it dragged me in) but I'm seriously not going to buy a PJ cover from him if I don't already own a PJ cab so it's a bit self-defeating. Yes I may remember him if I ever decide to buy a cover for my cab or I may check out his other items whilst looking at this listing but personally I found it mildly irratating and I'll not buy from him on principle. Saying that I've now alerted a whole bunch of other bassists to his wares... I think my avatars have been a bit disturbing to some of late... best I find something even 'more' disturbing
 23. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Phil-Jones-Suitcase-...1QQcmdZViewItem Just a tad misleading in the title Tw*t!
 24.
Tis most strange indeed.
No disrespect to the 'last' BC owner of the bass but it shouldn't really come as such a shock It was mad cheap on here and TBH even I considered that it would have been worth more on eBay than it sold for on BC. Regardless of whether the BCer bought it and didn't get on with it or bought it to have a blast then turn it round for more than they paid for it, they paid the asking price and parted with their cash... to put it up for sale to the world at large (not just our little community) and get a respectable price could maybe be a salutary lesson to us all! I just hope a Basschatter didn't buy it
