    I had one of those burgundy 5s (35" scale) and it was a great bass but I can assure you I bought and subsequently sold it for less than that one... not a bargain in my opinion!

A BO neck bass with active electronics, quality hardware, nice woods and concave/convex body shape or BO neck bass with passive electronics, quality hardware, painted body and flat body shape? Probably neither but in crude terms looking at it on paper, I think some of the BO Fender clones could be deemed pricey for what they are.

    Odd that someone has used the Veblen goods comparison with Warwick... I'd have thought that by now someone might have expanded the debate out from Squire v Fender to Squire type basses (i.e. cheap BO Fender style basses) to Sadowsky and Lakland! Not wishing to alienate myself from all of the aforementioned companies fans but surely that is a more direct reference to Veblen goods Did anyone hear the sound of a can of worms being opened.

    That is a bit naughty. You do have to wonder if he genuinely thinks that it is a Status! I remember these models and I'm trying to recall if it had Washburn marked on the bass somewhere... the pups were Status hyperactives IIRC and as you say the bridge cover has the legend Status but did it have the Washburn logo somewhere that he is genuinely hiding/not declaring? Not an unreasonable price @ £200 (at the minute) for a Status licensed product but unwary buyers could be suckered into higher bids if they think it is a full blown Status.

Regards, Phil[/quote] Don't worry about finding a 'Warwick' specific repairer, it'll be a generic electrical/wiring fault; which at worst will be a fecked preamp and/or pups. Any guitar repair shop should be able to deal with it. As for a quick fix... I've not heard of a fault that would cause such a battery drain in such a short time yet still sound OK when it was in (powered) use.

    I've owned amps for 10-15 years ( you might find that hard to believe by some of my recent trades) and never had them serviced, as I've never known what could be done to them especially as some of mine have been sealed types with no fans so no dust accumulation.

    Never come across that one before... sounds daft but you are sure that the batteries installed were new? Has the wiring been tampered with i.e. unfactory like soldering? When you say the batteries last 2 hours do you know for sure they would be dead after 2 hours use (from fresh) or did you leave it (unplugged) for a few days/weeks then went back to find it dead? It's still not right either way but it might help someone else diagnose it for you.

    I know fine well that if I arrive at a venue (pub) with a raised area (stage) then I'm invariably going to need to roll off a bit of bottom end. On the same subject my 'usual' tone in the house has a bit of a mid scoop whereas live I know fine well that will just get lost so my EQ is generally flat and I'll work from there to get what I want. You'd be amazed how much mid and top you can add that sounds horrendous in isolation but can be required in a band mix that is relying on backline rather than PA support... unless you play a P bass with flats (sorry MB)

If you don't use the effects loop or headphone socket very often all the more reason to give the jack sockets a good clean and repeatedly insert a jack in and out of each. If it starts working that isn't the permanent fix, you need to get the top off and give them a proper clean.

    They were out about 10 years ago (don't quote me on that date as I'm clocking on in years) and were a budget(ish) make. An amp/cab/combo was reviewed in the old UK Bassist mag many moons ago but don't ask me when!

Our school has had an axe hanging over it for a few years (along with all of the other Middle schools in our town), it will now (along with 5 other schools) close in 2010 to make way for privatised education and who knows how many of us will be out of jobs. All to save money under the auspice it is to raise standards. Any way... about these cheap basses

    I don't think I've got significantly less dosh than last year but I'm not about to squander as I really don't know what is around the corner. I'd imagine that to be the case for most people.

Pah, what was wrong with just leaving it at 6ohms I wonder? A stand alone 6ohm 6x10 cab rejigged to deliver 4ohms (wonder what they've done... if anything) will pretty much deliver the same performance, especially at the sensitivity they are rated at!

    It doesn't look as deep as I'd expect an early TE to be! Is it just my failing memory or were the TE not as deep as I remember? <edit> Doh! I just realised that it is a Laney fitted with TE drivers

I've often wondered whether (like the Streamer shape) it was licenced from N Steinberger!
