  1. I'm talking to a bc'er who has a couple of 5 strings he may be up to trade and we're planning on meeting up in a couple of weeks to try each other's basses out and see if we want to do a trade. Am putting on hold till then. Cheers to everyone who has been in touch and if this doesn't work out will be back in contact. Thx!
  2. I never know what to play for this kind of thing (I hate going into music shops) so here's a few sounds of the bass. Starts with both p'ups on full. Jazz Demo.mov
  3. Just picked it up to weight it... damn. The neck is really lovely. I love a satin finish. May record a quick bit of it so you can hear. See if I have a moment later.
  4. Let me see if anyone wants the whole package first. I'd really rather get rid of the whole bass in one go and swap for a five string.
  5. I love Jazz basses and have been putting this together for ages. Bits from here, there. Squier body, Fender roast maple neck, badass bridge, Fender '74 pickups, Hipshot ultralite tuners but I'm just not playing anything more ther than my Dingwall 5 string. I'm in London - up for any kind of test. Would rather not post but do have a hiscox case could include for extra. I'm not really looking to trade any more but do try me. Currently strung with Olympus flats (cheap ones) but I have a set of Elites in the case I can put on so that's £40 worth of strings for a start. Update - 4.1kg so nice and light. Sorry - no idea what the body is made from.
  6. Class d amps and neodymium drivers have changed my life!!!
  7. They went into pro-PA installations by the start of the 90s didn't they? OHM?
  8. It's not dignified what with my MarkBass CM121 on a trolley and the bass in a gig bag but I've gotten across London on the tube with it.
  9. I play through compact 1x12" cabs which are a miracle of portability (I can get my whole rig to a venue on the bus!!!) but man, it's lovely to plug into a big cabinet with a 1x15 driver in it...
  10. Probably very similar except for the preamp.
  11. It’s really just a small PA head in a combo. I’ve never liked the sound with keyboard as it’s really brittle and sharp but with this bass it’s epic!!!
  12. This is my dad’s OHM KA140 keyboard amp from the mid 80’s that he’s had since new. It’s got a nasty piezo tweeter and is quite shrill but makes for a fantastic bass amp! Really snappy and deep, very very modern and hifi. Honestly it’s one of the nicest tones I’ve achieved in years!
  13. That's Thotch. The biggest-selling band of the 1970's I'll have you know.
  14. Just sold @asha Squier Jazz body. Great communications, fast payment - a pleasure to do business. Thanks for buying!
  15. It just looks so ... pure! My ideal finish for any bass, I'd say.
  16. I've been using this body to try out stuff for a while - it's really light, 2.5kg. The pickup spacing is proper fender Jazz style so wider for the bridge pickup than the neck so you can slot anything into it. The pickups aren't wired up at the moment though. There are a couple of dents at the bottom but honestly this sounded pretty good with a neck on it, it's just surplus to requirements now so I just want the space back. Yours for £30 posted or £25 if you want to collect it from New Cross in London.
  17. Thanks. That’s super helpful. I have to say that I don’t get on with the EMG preamp on my combustion but I’m not really after it to be more HiFi BUT I’d love a passive tone. I could not live without the 3 pickups tho. I absolutely love the configuration.
  18. Oooh, tasty! When you say different beast, in what ways? I've only ever held one Canadian Dingwall and wasn't able to play it so I'd love to know...
  19. I've bought a couple of t-shirts from https://soundshirts.com and am very happy with them (got ASDR and TR808 ones for m'self) and got a bass one for t'other half, but this isn't quite as L as we'd hoped, would say it's on the slim side of L. Anyway, the people at soundshirts have said they're knocking up a new a bass shirt with a MusicMan 4/1 headstock so I've ordered one but they said keep this one rather than send it back. I've no use for it but since they're so nice I thought I'd give it away here! First to PM me will get it - just send me a SAE with a large stamp and it's yours!
  20. I have one of these. Can confirm they are bloody brilliant. GLWTS.

  22. I have one of these. It’s quite astonishing - I can take it to go gigs and rehearsals on public transport! Glwts
  23. Well yes especially if it was returned with new strings…
  24. I don’t want to OWN any more basses, but I’d love to spend some with some just to find out what they were like. In an ideal world there would be an instrument library where you pay a fee and you can loan out one thing at a time.
