1. What's with all these Dingwalls popping up here all of a sudden? It's as if I don't have enough acquisitions to be tempted by at this time of year
2. Hmm ... so a compressor with a gain boost function is what I need? Can anyone recommend any decent models? Thanks!
3. Thanks for the info everyone. I've read that booster pedals work best with tube amps, but I have a Little Mark head. Is that going to be an issue? Any brands recommended? Thanks again.
4. Aha! Do boosters simply 'boost' the volume, or do they affect the gain (in the overdrive sense of the word)?
5. Hello! I am currently facing a minor dilemma. I play in a loud 6-piece rock band in which I am required in a particular passage of music to switch instantly from flat-out heavy plucking (basically a heavy metal "chorus") to smooth two-handed legato tapping (the "ambient" interlude), without losing any of the volume. Despite spending hours working on my left-hand finger strength, I'm struggling to keep the volume even live (the tapping basically becomes inaudible against the rest of the band). I've been told that a compressor pedal might help me in this regard, but having listened to numerous online demos of people playing a bass through a compressor (badly), I find it hard to discern exactly what impact such a device would have in this situation. Is it the right tool for the job, or are there alternatives I should be considering (short of telling the rest of the band to play more quietly )? Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tom
6. Ebay sale finishes tomorrow. Still accepting offers.
7. If I could sell my 6-string I'd have scooped this up already.
8. Back on ebay for fixed price. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/110748177829?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649#ht_686wt_258 ONO.
9. Pre-tour bump. Back in a couple of weeks. Would love to see this baby go to a good home.
10.
Surely this needs a firm price to be listed here?
I see your point. I couldn't think of anywhere else appropriate to advertise an ebay auction though.....
11. Am now selling my translucent green Yamaha TRB 6P for a firm £1000. This includes a Hiscox flightcase and a Hipshot Xtender on the B-string (worth £130, but will gladly reinstall original tuner). Bought this second-hand for £1250 about 6 months ago for a couple of shows and to record an album with. The results were amazing, but have decided just to stick with a sole 5-string for future touring, so have decided I can't justify keeping it. The pics below show where there is a slight dent between the 5th and 7th frets on the side of the neck (there when I bought it - not visible from the front). Since this is an early 90s instrument, there is also some subtle tarnishing of the original hardware. Am happy to answer any questions.
12.
Another Bump - No-one Interested in an excellent and affordable Fretless V?
Amazed no-one is tempted by this. I have one myself and can honestly say they're one of the best value and best sounding 5-string fretlesses around.
13. Hi Alex, Are you only looking for session work? Am looking for someone to complete an experimental jazz/fusion/prog/electro project.
14. This woman's many talents are so enchanting, my wife has banned me from listening to her.
15. Thanks for the suggestions so far I will investigate these options.
16.
It's a Sei Flamboyant. Go to www.seibass.com and scroll through the Flamboyant pictures; it's near the end.
Thank you! What a beast!
17.
I own a 4 string fretless and a 5 string but I want to extend my range and also play stanley clarke/ victor wooten pieces in the ADGC tuning. What would be a good quality 6 string bass to invest in?
I'd say it's between a Yamaha TRB and the Ibanez SR 506. For me the Yamaha probably has the edge in terms of sound and versatility, but it's a darn sight heavier and the wide-string spacing has its pros and cons. The Ibanez is possibly what you might call more playable. Both are going for around £600 here: http://www.thebassgallery.com/Product_list...r&Strings=6
18. If you go to the bass gallery home page, you see this monster under new arrivals: Yet I couldn't find it anywhere else on the site. Does anyone have a clue what it is?
19.
Chris Bryant (corner of Denmark Street and Charing Cross Road) had a Polish bass player named Daniel working there for ages. Daniel is about to start renting part of Chris's basement to sell specialist & custom basses, apparently. Watch this space.
Is this what the poster advertising GMR basses is about? They look very nice. Is it going to be a custom shop then?
20. Silly question gets a silly answer. Fair enough.
21. Having been somewhat of a casual bassist until recently, I'm used to only buying about one set of strings per year. But everytime I go to a shop, I completely forget what gauge and brand I used the previous time. I just rely on the shop assistant to tell me that "this is the gauge most people use", who then just gives me what I assume to be a random generic brand of nickel-coated strings. My main bass is an Ibanez GWB 35. I remember being more than satisfied with the original gauge, and assume I have inadvertently stuck with it since I haven't had to do any major truss-rod adjustments. Would anyone be so kind as to suggest a likely gauge for this instrument, and, whilst your at it, a decent brand to boot? Much obliged. Tom
