1. Ah well, maybe I should grow my beard back In actual fact I'm working on setting up something completely new. Just had an irresistible urge to take a break from band life and plough my own furrow for a bit. I guess you'd call it a solo project, but I hope it will turn into a real band at some point. All the best and good luck with The Reasoning. If I make it to Cardiff anytime soon, I shall be sure to give you a holler!
 2. Cheers Matt. It wasn't an easy decision but it was essentially a case of my life pulling me against the grain of things. In the end, something had to give. Anyway, I think you could make a good doppelganger if you were interested in the spot
 3. That's superbly helpful! I have a hunch it'll be the Ken Smiths Thanks!
 4. I have a second-hand bass that came with some nickel strings which have purple wrap on both ends (i.e. before the string enters the tuning pegs and the bridge). The previous owner can't remember what make they were, but they sound great and I'd like to replace them with the same make. Anyone have a clue what they may be?
 5. I've decided to use this on the album after all. It just sounds too good to let all that tone go undocumented. Sorry guys!
 6.
dude the sei rocks in the video i can hear every note , are u sure ull get a better sounding bass, that plays as well as this bass. awesome playing dude good luck with sale
Well, for me every bass is a compromise. With this bass you have the most incredible tone and versatility (as you clearly know!), but there's just one thing it can't quite do which I need it to do, and that's to produce a clear and tight sound on the bottom string when tuned down half a mile. Obviously it wasn't built for that purpose....
 7. Sei Flamboyant 6 string for sale (the one in my avatar no less). Buck-eye burl top-wood. Ash body. Birdseye maple fingerboard. 7-piece through-neck (I think bubinga and maple). 35" scale. Lane Poor pickups. Comes with Hipshot Xtender installed on low-B string but will include original machine-head. Will throw in an MTD-flight case. http://www.flickr.co.../in/photostream http://www.flickr.co...in/photostream/ And some high-res ones from the previous owner: https://picasaweb.go...geNeckLanePoors And a video of the machine in action: I bought this second-hand from a guy in the States last year for £1800. That in itself is a bargain as to have one of these built to these specs nowadays would probably cost a little under £3000. There are a few little nicks and scratches here and there, but nearly all of them are on the back of the bass and so not visible whilst playing. It's the best looking and best sounding bass I've played and deciding to put this up for sale has been a real heartache. Reason for sale? Simple honest truth? I need a bass that can handle drop-Z tunings, and only a 37" scale will do The music I use this for (basically rock and metal) doesn't really do the natural 'woody' tones of this magnificent instrument justice and I'd rather it went to a player who appreciated its beauty and versatility. Pickup preferred but able to ship in flight-case. UPDATE: No longer seeking trade. Cash only.
 8. Had one of these and sold it for the same reason. Best midrange fretless I've played. Ironically now I need a new fretless..... Incidentally, didn't you used to own a Dingwall 6 string?
 9. Hi there. I'm potentially interested. A few questions: What is the scale length? String spacing at bridge? What is the fretboard made from? Can you tell me more about the markers? Are they part of the woodwork or slotted in? How much does the bass weigh? Thanks.
 10. I don't think it's him. It's a tall skinny white kid in the videos.
 11.
I've only heard (via YouTube) Black Gold which I found disappointing. I wanted to be amazed in a good way but was taken aback by how shockingly bad I thought it was. Lyrics, singing, music...not my cup of tea.
I tend to skip that one to be fair
 12. Anyone else been digging the new Esperanza Spalding album? If not, why not? I have a question. Since I get my music off iTunes these days, I have no idea who the personnel on an album are. I'm dying to find out who the guitarist is on the track "Smile Like That". Sounds like a young Allan Holdsworth. Anyone know?
 13.
I presume the Bass Gallery is not a million miles from you?
They're not, but I get a weird vibe from that shop. I think it stems from the time when I walked in with a normal guitar. Ever since they've looked at me like some kind of charlatan.
Personally, I'd try and grab a Roscoe with that sort of budget. Not traditional looking, but certainly not too over the top. Great tone, tend to be fairly lightweight and they are just so comfy! I prefer the looks of the SKB's, but the Century stds are pretty special too! Maybe email Mark @ Bassdirect and ask if you can go to Leamington and try some shizzle out? He's a very helpful guy and will be able to point you in the right direction.
I've heard a lot of good things about Roscoes. Seems like my options are gradually being whittled down. i.e. Arrange a trip to Bass Direct. Thanks for all the info.
 14.
You could always take a look at a s/h Dingwall ABZ :-) Light, has a 35 inch string somewhere as well :-)
Have been toying with that idea for a while. Great looks and amazing tone. I just wonder if my girly hands can cope really with all that stretching on the bottom strings
 15. I used to have a Yamaha TRB 6 string. Best looking and sounding bass I've owned, but I suffered from all manner of neck and shoulder problems from playing with a tree around my neck. Are the 5 strings not relatively heavy too?
 16.
Apart from the BTB's are not most of the high end ibbys 34" ?? My SR765 certainly is... I have to ask the question though, why new? There's some lovely mint s/h stuff within your price range....
True that ....
Here we go... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/85921-acg-stock-basses-for-sale/page__st__40 That's the thread to watch for stock some well within and even below budget
Hmm... very pretty.
Never heard Lakland referred to as retro before? The 55-01/55-02/55-94 body shape is their own and fairly recent history so not a fender rehash body shape...ah well...ACG are beautiful though!!!
Well, I guess I'm looking for 'the right sort of curve'.
 17.
Lakland 55-02, ticks all of the above boxes! I love mine!!
Hmm... I think I'm looking for something a bit less 'retro', if you know what I mean.
ACG might be within budget?
Never heard of ACG. I take it they are custom made? They look nice..... surely they must be more expensive though?
 18. Am considering getting a new 5-string, preferably with a 35inch scale, versatile tone (jazz punchiness to rock growl), good looks and lightweight. My budget limit is probably around £1500. Any recommendations?
 19. Does anyone know if you can get Jamie Aebersold backing tracks with the bass taken out? Have done a Google search, but it's not clear to me whether they exist or not.
