Having looked at the sales/launch bumf, it seems only the Rio colourway is limited to 82 pieces? And that the seafoam, white and black ones will be general production? (Unless I'm mistaken).

Would make sense as Rio was released in 82, so it makes sense to limit the Rio bass to 82 pieces. There is no 82 connection to the other finishes.

  2. How is your Easter? Hope you are having a great time. In case you are still looking for a last minute Easter gift, my lovely Fender P is still available 🙂

The great Italian philosopher, Rocky Balboa, once said that "Ain't Nothin' Over 'Til It's Over" but in this case, my Easter sale will be over very soon, in 4 hours actually - 23:59. So, time's running out 😉

I love it when people say stuff like this then somebody else posts a photo of the new Fenderson Gibfandango in candy apple purple and all your best intentions go out of the window as the GAS rushes in.

Let's see how long this lasts.

Candy Apple Purple? Sounds cool. I first thought you had made it up but guess what, there IS a bass in that colour - The 2020 Rickenbacker 4003 Candy Apple Purple Limited Edition and now I know who came up with the name 😉

"We are excited to introduce our new 2020 Rickenbacker Fab Gear Limited Edition Candy Apple Purple 4003 Model Bass. This is a Fab Gear exclusive, a limited edition run of only 30 numbered basses are being made for us. The stunning new Candy Apple Purple finish was inspired by the late 60’s Mopar muscle car color Plum Crazy Purple, a fabulous color Rickenbacker has never before issued, and is an exclusive for Andy Babiuk’s Fab Gear! We worked directly with our good friends at Rickenbacker, to design this super cool, limited-edition bass, and chose some ultra-cool specs like: checkerboard binding, vintage knobs, vintage nameplate, vintage toaster pickup in the neck, and more!"

  4. Thanks. Interesting video. However, Sheldon got some details wrong. Rio was Duran Duran’s second album, not their first (that was “Duran Duran”, released a year earlier in 1981). Second, John Taylor was not 17 when he recorded his basslines for Rio but 21 ½. Third, Queen Elizabeth II did not “have a Neve PA system” but Rupert Neve “provided public address for Princess (later Queen) Elizabeth II at the reopening of St Andrews church” (see Rupert Neve Designs website).

  5. Anth just bought my GHS strings (flats and pressurewound). Transaction was super smooth and I received payment literally within a minute. Great stuff 👍

Lobster called out Fender on YouTube for advertising that the pickups in the shorty Gretsch were 'buckers, when, in fact, they were not. This resulted in a change in the description and an offer of compensation for anyone who had bought one (in a particular time frame). Lobster may be a bit whacky at times, but he has proved himself to be a champion of the consumer.

Yes, he can be whacky at times, his claw shtick is a bit lame, and his fashion "taste" is, well, questionable to say it politely. However, I do like his reviews as they are proper "reviews" (he is not getting paid for them and he sometimes does rate basses lowly, just check out his videos on the Fender Gold Foil Jazz Bass (no claws out of 5) and the G&L Placentia JB (1 claw out of 5)) and not, more or less, concealed gear demos like what we get from most of these YT clowns ("Hey, I got this amazing (insert any random bass/pedal/amp of the week) that you have to check out. It's awesome, the best ever, you cannot live without it, your life will never be the same again (enter any other effxxx hyperbole)!") 😎

  7. I am selling this beautiful 2004 Fender American Series Precision bass in chrome red. I bought it pretty much a year ago here on BC and the previous owner clearly took good care of it. It is in great condition for an almost 20 years old instrument. There are some scratches (mostly on the back, difficult to photograph but see one photo below for a larger scratch) and a dent (see photo below) but apart from that, it is in really great shape and plays well (no fret buzzing, noisy electronics, neck issues etc.). The bass weighs 4.2kg.

I made the following changes/mods (I would call them upgrades but that’s for anyone to decide): I added a Hipshot A Style brass bridge (£90), the Fender Pure Vintage 63 Pbass pickup (£110), a KiOgon P-bass loom with CTS pots (£36), and 2 Fender Potiknobs (£20). I have also just put on some new strings (D’Addario EXL 165, 45-105). Of course, all the original hardware parts that I replaced come with the bass, including the S-1 Switch for series and parallel wiring and two extra pickguards - one from WD (solid black) and one from D’Andrea (3-ply - Black/White/Black).

Collection would be recommended but I can also ship it (UK only, sorry!) using the original hard shell case and a decent courier. Shipping would of course add some costs.

  8. I am selling my mint Source Audio Aftershock Bass Distortion pedal. I bought it back in June last year and only used it a few times at home. It is in pristine condition. It is currently stored safely in its original box in a pet and smoke free house. The price is firm as new ones currently go for £189 (GAK, Gear4music), £199 (Andertons, out of stock though), up to £220 (Thomann). Here on BC, one recently also sold for £125, so I think it is a fair price.

Shipping costs are included (UK only, sorry!) using a decent courier.

About the pedal (from the Source Audio website):

"Get down and dirty with the AfterShock Bass Distortion. Out of the box, this stereo pedal delivers three bass overdrive engines that span the gamut of low-end crunch, from smooth and natural overdrive to full-on fuzz attack. The Tube engine belts out a subtle, but powerful vintage tube overdrive with a smooth breakup and plenty of punch. Heavy creates an aggressive scooped sound with ample highs and thundering lows. The Fuzz engine offers intense germanium fuzz tones with loads of bottom and mucho grit. The Aftershock’s simple, yet powerful control panel provides the tools to finely sculpt the perfect bass tone. The Clean knob lets you to mix in just enough clean signal to maintain a rock-solid low-end without compromising the pedal’s SONIC GROWL. Adjust the onboard Tone control and find that thunderous sweet spot for any bass/amp combination.

    The Official Aftershock Demo Video

By itself the AfterShock offers tremendous tonal range, but dig a little deeper and discover its hidden power and flexibility. Every pedal in the One Series line is compatible with the Neuro Desktop Editor and Mobile App (free downloads iOS, Android, Mac and Windows). Connect the AfterShock to the Neuro Editor and access its extended equalization capabilities, stereo routing options, as well as Source Audio’s free library of over 40 overdrive, fuzz, and distortion algorithms for bass AND guitar — each algorithm can be downloaded directly to the pedal. The Aftershock is also built on dual drive platforms providing the opportunity to simultaneously run two fuzz tones in parallel, stacked, or split in stereo. Plus, every One Series pedal is fully MIDI compatible when coupled with the Neuro Hub (formerly Soundblox Hub), providing the power to save up to 128 different presets."
