Yup.  Having fitted them to a bass and being blown away, Toneriders would always be my first choice now.  Certainly the P, not tried the J.

Played a 'blues and brews' night at the John Peel Centre in Stowmarket.  Lovely venue - we've played there before - easy load in/out, big stage, lights, great sound system with a team of sound guys.  3 bands, we were on last or 'headlining' as like to call it, a selection of local beers on offer.  I wasn't confident anyone would turn on a chilly thursday in February up but apparently 60 souls made it - far more than I imagined.  Bands were Red Sky High, Jamie Williams and the Roots Collective - who were especially good, great set of originals delivered in some style.  Their bass player had a bitsa short scale Bronco/Mustang/Jazz hybrid that sounded awesome.  Good player, too.

Having been nicely warmed up and lubricated the crowd appreciated us and we went down very well, despite some left of field errors on a few songs we have played faultlessly for months (why does that happen?).  We played a longer set, just over an hour, and it was all round a damned fine evening.  No traffic there or back, in bed by 1am.  My gear was my SG > new Trace Elliot Transit B pedal > desk which sounded pretty fab from where I was standing.

This is fairly heavily modified.  An unholy marriage of an Encore short scale double cutaway body, a Hondo II H1015 32" scale neck (Yum!), set back a bit, Wilkinson bridge, Entwistle PBXN pickup, Roswell MM syle pickup, 3 way selector and jack moved to the side.  It's a bit of a monster!  One day, if I feel frivolous, I'll stick some black Hipshot Ultralites on the headstock.

I excluded myself, so was never in.  But had I been in I would still be in.

I can see a Dano longhorn arriving at casa S before the spring equinox, mind.

This thread has got my GAS stoked.  I've had a couple of these longhorns in the past, plus a '56 single cut shorty and a DC long scale.  Tone-wise all the same meat but with different gravy.  But, damnation Marc, I fancy a longhorn now (ooh matron etc)

Indeed, a fine job.  Maude has a whole raft of skills that , when being handed out, missed me completely.

I don't have one, was only thinking out loud after seeing a couple on eBay recently. Probably give it a miss...

However, those L'il Richards look interesting!  I had no idea they existed.  Off the peg the slab body would be a deal breaker but if one came up secondhand it could be worth butchering!

A turd that can be polished or best flushed away?  

Just wondering if it might be worth investing in a change of bridge and pickups, purely to get a playable, lightweight, short scale faker.

Friday night, one of my band's monthly 'residency' gigs at The Shamrock in Ipswich.  Very quiet.  Only one of our regulars turned up, good old Harry who comes to every single gig.  Only one other face I recognised.  Different bar staff - seemed like a different gig.  They've even fixed the dodgy power socket!  Usual revolving door of punters, a handful hung around but we didn't get the usual atmosphere building up.  Still, I got parked nearby, traffic to and from was light and we got paid.

Next up is this coming Thursday 1st, we are 'headlining' a 3 band 'blues and brews' evening at the John Peel Centre in Stowmarket.  Potentially a great night  

Change of line up, one of the bands has pulled out and been replaced. 

This Thursday!  My lot are finisihing off the night.

Combined 'who did you see live last' and 'who are you seeing live next'.  Go West, one of this household's fave bands, are touring with Wet Wet Wet at the moment.  That is the bass player and guitar player from Wet Wet Wet plus a new singer.  I saw the Wets years ago and, to my undying surprise, thought they were stunningly good.

We see Go West whenever they are within striking distance and have done for years.  Peter Cox is probably my favourite male singer of those I have seem live, he has a certain quality about his voice that gets better as he ages (unbelievably he's 68 now!)  And the current band are as good as any he and Drummie have had except maybe for the brief period they had Alan Murphy on guitar.

So, last night it was the Regent Theatre in Ipswich.  I like going there - sound is usually fab and the seats are relatively comfy  The nearby car park is cheap, if you get there early there are loads of spaces, fabulous tiny Indian restaurant right next door.  Loads of charity shops in town to pass the time.  Last night the sound was actually a little off but Go West turned in a great performance, they were on second and finished the night. 

On first were the Wets.  All I can say is that without Marti Pellow they are a husk of a band, his voice (lost it now, sadly) and stage presence clearly carried them.  New bloke can sing but everything else was a whole pile of wrong. 

Rinse and repat later in the week.  Kind of hoping the Wets are on second so we can leave early.

Doesn't matter what anyone else thinks is heavy, it's how it feels for you that matters.  For my fragile back anything over 8.5lbs/3.9kg is too heavy.

A few years ago I was in a rock covers band called The Wayward Sons (before we morphed into a Bon Jovi Tribute band - another story).  At that time another band was using that name as well (we were first!) and they ended up being quite famous.  Anyway for one gig we played over the pa the spooky version of 'Carry On My Wayward Son that I think had been used in one of those goth TV shows before kicking off with a shorterned version of Led Zeppelin's Kashmir (which again had been used as a TV theme for something), which then went into Rock and Roll.  Went down like a Led balloon so we didn't bother again.
