Whatever pick you choose you'll get used to it. I was the reverse - always a pick player but decided I needed to play fingerstyle for some stuff. Felt clumsy and awkward at first but after a few years I am less clumsy and awkward. One day it might feel as natural as my pick playing but not yet.

My band used a pair of RCF EVOX 8 arrays and stood them at the back. Only had feedback issues one time and it was easily eq'd out. No idea what was going on but it is part of the 'sell' for these and it works.
-
I would also consider the Retrovibe Route '51 pickup. Has a bit more punch than the Roswell, if punch is what you want.

Thankfully common sense has prevailed and I talked myself out of it.
A close call, though - what an absolutely lovely bass!
-
It's like that but more animated.
I have absolutely no need or use for any more basses. My band folded, I have sold off most of the ones I had and not picked up any of the remainder for 10 months. Can't see me joining another band.
But.

Damn. Quite light. Thank you. My old one was heavy. I need to have a conversation with myself.

I had a black '79 and it sounded nothing remotely as lush as this.
Purely out of curiosity, you understand, how much does it weigh, please?

Brilliant amps, the taste control is a thing of genius. Lots of the H word in these.

My blues/rock trio also used a pair of RCF EVOX 8 units for about 5 years and they were absolutely brilliant. Super easy and quick to set up, super easy and quick to pack down and, most importantly, sounded amazing. Everything went through - 2x vocal, guitar, bass, drums. Dispersion was incredible. Pubs and clubs, mainly, but also some small outdoor stuff. There is also the weird voodoo about not feeding back when placed at the back behind the mics. No idea how or why but we only ever had a feedback issue once and it was easily solved.

I must admit, I'm a bit envious!
Me too! Until April last year I'd been in a blues rock trio playing that exact stuff, plus Hendrix, Jeff Healey and a few fun obscurities (check out Lonnie Mack's later output), for the previous 5 years. The music I grew up listening to and the most enjoyable band I've ever played with. The guitarist pulled the plug for reasons the drummer and I have not got to the bottom of. Probably spoilt me for doing anything else - I'm 68 now and unlikely to find another band I would enjoy that much. Then again, I don't miss the late nights.

Despite being bandless and not having picked up a bass for about 4 months I'd still be in the market for a BBVIS or BBVIIS. I missed out on the last one that popped up.
-
I paired it with a Tecamp Puma and it sounded amazing, especially at lower volume.

There's obviously a 50s rock n roll theme that two of the band are adhering to. I guess, from your charity shop trolley-dash outfit, you didn't get the memo?

I used Danny's bass hunter service to source a rare-ish MIJ bass. I found him to be a brilliant chap to deal with. Lots of transparent communication throughout with a couple of options to choose from in the end. He gives his honest opinion on instruments found which is refreshing.
When he received my bass, he even made a youtube demo video to show me the bass, his thoughts, and the set up he'd given it
The overall cost all in from him to me was less than I was expecting too.
Plus he's a professional working bassist in Japan so he really does know his stuff.
Recommended 👍
This was exactly my experience with Danny, who sourced and bought for me a Yamaha BB5000. Posted a vid etc. Albeit 2017.
I also used Ishibashi a few times as around 10 years ago I went through a period of liking medium scale Precisions which were nigh on impossible to find here but popped up reasonably regularly in Japan - both Fender and Squier. Faultless service. Also the exchange rate at the time meant it was always a good deal, even including the shipping and taxes. No so much now, I don't think.
Edit. Video is still on his website! Should have kept it but, of course, sold it for a massive loss.

Black leather dye, forget the make but a search should throw it up. @NancyJohnson did a post about it a few years ago and I tried it - worked a treat.

And English isn't even Nicco's first language. We should all read and learn.

Never mind the bass, he is 65 and in unbelievably good shape.

I bought a HB Shorty when they first came out and, several years and a major bass sell off later, it is the only Fender flavoured bass I still have. I swapped the pickup for a Tonerider, just because the extra oomph suited the band better, but everything else is stock. Anyhoo, I would say if you buy cheap flats you will just be disappointed - you'll end up with a dull thud and lose all the nusanced tones that more expensive flats will give you. The Thomann flats don't come in short scale I don't think and MIE cutting longscale flats to fit usually ends up with the cut end unravelling. I have TI Flats on mine - they do a shortscale version - and couldn't be happier with the sound and playability. If you baulk at paying £40+ for strings, they usually turn up secondhand in the classifieds here for £25-ish. You just have to wait.

Bit late but saw the Illegal Eagles on Wednesday night at the Civic Theatre in Chelmsford. This is their 30 year anniversary tour although, a true Triggers broom, it is an entirely different band now. Certainly an entirely different band to the one I used to see when Ray Brown was singing. Anyhoo.
They are nothing short of brilliant. Five in the band, five vocals (Including Blow Monkeys drummer Tony Kiley), four of whom are good enough to front any band, one of whom (bass player and apparent band leader Trevor Newnham) has one of the finest voices I have heard live. Harmonies are out of this world and three of them are talented multi-instrumentalists. They aren't scared to do deep cuts - starting the evening off with 'Midnight Flyer' and throw in some Joe Walsh and Don Henley solo stuff. Last year they played all of 'Desperado' including obscure songs like 'Bitter Creek'. Fabulous.
I saw the Eagles proper on their 'History' tour, while everyone was still alive, and reckon this bunch can walk shoulder to shoulder with them. If you like the music of the Eagles, go seek them out - they tour constantly all over the country.

Off hold. Had an offer yesterday from a well-known retailer which I accepted, packed the bass, removed FS ad from eBay etc. This morning they have come back and changed their mind. Poor form and last time I will be using them.
Upshot is bass is still available
Name and shame, Clarky? That really is bad form.
I had one of these, they really are superb. So easy to play and outstanding for blues/rock - but, as has been said, so much more.
-
Not that I have many left now but for the past few years I have fitted Thomastik TI Jazz flats on all my basses. They are very bright, as flats go - by no means the dull thud of many. I love the feel of them. Quite low tension, which puts off a lot of folks. Expensive but last forever. The short scale ones are actually medium scale but that isn't a problem.

Barefaced Two10 s / st...
in Amps and Cabs
Posted
I was a huge Barefaced fan. Bought the first production of Compact, loved it. Added a Midget, loved it even more. Fancied a 'one cab solution' and bought a Supercompact when it came out, even better. Then I bought another one just, you know, because. Then I bought a ONE10, then a Two10 then another TWO10. These are coloured, not the HiFi of the 12" drivers, but in a nice old school vibe kind of way.
Then I went FRFR and sold the lot.
If I were to go back to cabs, despite being a decades long fan of Barefaced, I'd be looking at the LFSys cabs very closely. Everything I have read points to them being even better than Barefaced. Before you commit, do have a look.
