  1. Sold - Ashdown ABM 600 Evo IV rack mount bass head. Now £395 - needs to go I've owned this amp for a few years but for various reasons (lockdown, between bands etc) its hardly been used, so it needs to go to a good home. It is, as you can see from the photos in excellent condition, no scratches or dents, (except a few little scratches on the underside where it has been slotted into the rack case) and has been kept in a padded semi-solid case the whole time I've owned it. Full specs can be found on the Ashdown website Buyer can collect or can arrange collection by courier after payment in full.
  2. Thanks everyone for your help and insight with this ... And it seems I'm not alone in this endeavour. I have decided to buy a 2nd hand Ashdown ABM head and give it a go with my 210 barefaced ... I'm keeping the Berg Forte as well (for now anyway) as I'm also going to try a few things to spice up the front end and see what happens. I will keep to up to date once I get it 🙂
  3. @Dan Dare this is sound advice, thank you. However, my problems started when I went to a well stocked shop (Bass Direct) and spent some time and spent a small fortune on pro level gear that sounded great in the shop 🙂. Up until that point I had always bought 2nd hand stuff, home made stuff etc. then I got to a point where I could afford to buy some decent gear and went for it. The gear I bought was excellent... I bought into the whole class D amp thing / hi-fi sound etc which is great for portability and clarity of sound, but it's taken me until now to admit to myself that i'd lost 'my' sound. So here we are 5 years on .... and I think I'm going to go and try some old school / 2nd hand amps again 🙂
  4. Hi again, thanks for this and the PM ... Lots to think about ....
  5. I played a festival last year and used their backline which was an orange head and 4x10 and it sounded monstrous. I think it was the more expensive amp head but can't be sure ... I need to have another play and see how it sounds.
  6. Thanks, I've been looking at the ABMs and wondering .... And I've heard very good things about them .... Will have to try one
  7. Hi folks! I have a dilemma. I used the have great bass tone, every time I fired up the stack and played a few notes it brought a smile to my face. Now I've kind of lost my way and I struggle to get a sound that inspires me. Amps that sounded great for me in the past were Trace Elliot, SWR etc. Personal reasons led me down the class D / light weight route and I kind of fell into the pursuit of pure sound as opposed to a coloured tone ... Which I am now questioning. My first class D was a Genz Benz streamliner 900 which has massive power, but I really struggled with the EQ / tone section ....I struggled find musical tones, and the valve input gain just seemed too distorted, too loose. Now I have a Bergantino Forte, which is great, and the EQ is more musical, but I'm not getting 'THAT SOUND' ....it's so difficult to describe ... I am looking for that 'bite' on the input stage, some growl but not scrappy distortion ... I want some aggressive grit without the baggy-ness, followed by the ability to add some warmth and high mids and a whole load of power. Is that too much to ask ? 🤔 Any suggestions most welcome ... What amps are other people running? Valve front ends? Full solid state? Thanks .....
  8. Genz Benz Streamliner 900 bass amp for sale with padded gig bag .. in original box with manual. I have owned this amp since new. It is extremely light and portable, and very LOUD. I have gigged with it in different places, with a single cab, 2 cabs, through a PA and it has delivered every time. The tube input overdrive is very usable and can be used to give your bass some extra punch, or, full on overdrive ... up to you Please see photos ... it is in good condition (a few cosmetic scratches as you expect from use) and in full working order. Here is some of the relevant info from the manufacturer: Output - 500 Watts @ 8 ohms; 900 Watts @ 4 ohms Weight - 2.9 Kg Size - 8cm x 25cm x 30cm (approx) The 300 volt All Tube Class A preamp design is driven by three 12AX7 preamp tubes utilising six gain stages. The preamp design features an intuitive and highly effective tone network which is a unique blend of a modified passive Baxandall network for the bass and treble along with an active tube driven mid filter with selectable mid frequencies. The versatile all tube preamp exudes a fat and rich tone that remains articulate. It can be used to simply add warmth to your natural tone or it can be dialled in to provide a wide range of natural tube overdrive. The powerhouse behind the Streamliner™ is a Class D amplifier and SMPS module, enhanced with our Patent Pending P.H.A.T. (Proprietary Heat Abatement Technology) topology. 9. Hi, I could be interested in this .. I'm in Bristol too! I couldn't see the dent in the bottom of the neck clearly from the photo ... does it affect the fretboard? Whereabouts are you in Bristol? cheers, Andy
  10. Just bought a Barefaced TWO10 from Tom. I would recommend as a great seller. Really easy transaction, with great comms ... the speaker arrived very well packaged and looking immaculate.
  11. is the SWR head running at 110volts or 220volts? I used to have an imported SM500 and i had to have a huge 120 to 240 transformer as well
  12. Just sold a couple of cabs .. now i have some spending money ...
  13. Hi, We are at the Old Market Assembly in Bristol on Friday 20th Dec
  14. ***SOLD*** I am selling a pair of Barefaced Super Compact 3rd generation cabs using the 12XN550 drive units. These cabs are superb, really clear, accurate and loud. 1 cab is plenty loud enough for most gigs, add the second cab and the sound is huge. Please check the Barefaced website for full details. These cabs are each rated at 600W into 8 Ohms and weigh 11Kg each and come with padded covers custom made by 'hotcovers'. Kept indoors and in great condition, only had light use hence why i am selling Ideally I'd like to sell both cabs together but will consider selling them individually for £450 each. Collect from Bristol or can send by insured courier if buyer pays postage.
  15. Hi everyone! I can't believe i haven't joined before ... I've been more of a passing viewer of other peoples posts and reviews so far. Anyway, I'm a keen bass player, i don't get out and play as much as I'd like these days but I've been playing for 30 odd years, played in various bands over the years ... some serious, others less so ..... and now play in a jazz funk band in Bristol called Wasabi and do a few deps for other local bands. Basses - 5 strings - Warwick fretless & Spector fretted, and a 4 string Squier precision which i fitted with Aguilar electronics Amp - Genz Benz streamliner 900 Cabs - Barefaced Super Compact (up for sale soon) Pedals - quite new to the whole pedal board thing, but have a few interesting pedals that i use on specific songs .. 3leaf audio proton filter, EHX bass mono synth, plus the more usual octaver, distortion, chorus. I hope to have a nose around, meet some people and maybe buy and sell a few things
