  1. One of to many classic albums they did but I've always had a soft spot of Goat's Head Soup but not because of the inclusion of Angie - it's the album as a whole - which I think is under-rated generally - when I hear it I think it has a hazy (possibly drug induced) summery, dreamy feel to it with the sax playing in particular.
  2. Any ideas what the front cover image is? A change vending machine perhaps? I like the jazz flute in this.
  3. I haven't heard this one but I have the 1st and another live album - they're a stinky poo hot band - I had Flatlands as a ring tone on my phone for a while.
  4. I think John Peel was played a few tracks off the Firing on All Six album at the time he was playing Siouxsie etc
  5. I listen to quite a lot of quiet amorphous ambient droning music - Steve Roach produces way too many albums and these days I don't think much of most of them but I like Early Man - I listen to this type of stuff Eno-style "on low levels" through ear-buds when I go to bed every night - this is what I'm listening to atm - as in this past week or two:-
  6. I can see why you are liking this... Yes - a bit weird that grunty humming at 8mins. It's not just accidental bleed through I don't think.
  7. I've been listening to some Steven Wilson albums - contemporary prog rock - imho he doesn't have as visible a public profile as you might expect if you look at his wiki page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_Wilson) I was listening to Hand.Cannot.Erase today while walking the dog and was curious to know if there was a story underneath it and there is as I found from the 2 part "making of..." video about the album (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTrSQWnJtgQ) - it's about this tragic death - a 38-year old woman Joyce Vincent (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joyce_Vincent) found dead in her bedsit in London - she'd lain undiscovered and unnoticed for nearly 3 years.
  8. A 4.5hr recording of birds in the garden - mainly blackbirds - made after as the rain was easing off - about 4 years ago - it's one of a number of things I listen to it on an mp3 player to help get to sleep.
  9. True and we've all heard it and know it. My aunt passed away a few days ago - not married, no kids - her card at xmas said I'll ring you - she didn't and I was about to ring her - it would have been no effort at all - now I'm driving 5 hrs to her empty house tomorrow. I'm making a note of that book title.
  10. Only in the past couple of days have I been digging out some Rush - I've not listened to them for decades - I was thinking how lucky we are to have access to so much more than the music through YouTube than we had years ago - e.g. all the interview - all 3 members seemed so grateful for their path through the limelight - no wonder Geddy and Alex always seemed so damn grown up and accepting about the need for Neil to stop touring.
  11. From Jan 2019 - I don't suppose we're going to find this book on a shelf in Waterstones https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fbbr7YRHmDY
  12. Emitt Rhodes - sometimes called the One-Man-Beatles..
  13. That's got to be the name of real ale - no?
  14. Blue Wail Blue Scream of Death Screaming Blue Murder
  15. I've never made NY resolutions before but I'm thinking about applying myself to a few things. I had shoulder surgery in March and 8 of the last 9 months I have worked consistently hard at my physio doing more than I was asked but the last month I haven't been able to maintain it - I ran out of steam and feel low about the prospects of getting back to be able to swim long distances again - I need to try and get a more positive head on again and get back on it. Bass playing - I only just started so plenty to do on that front. The idea came out of the blue as I wanted to start recording some of the songs I've written and it struck me I'd completely overlooked the role of the bass in everything I've ever done - I was so focussed on the lyrics, singing and underlying chords and more recently programming percussion - the idea has opened up my world a lot. So - start getting those songs recorded to a better standard. A few years ago I started using an old diary that was being flung out by my daughter - a decent leather bound thing - completely unused. I hate wasting paper or throwing it away so I started a daily writing routine and got a fair bit of good new writing from it - I definitely didn't manage to write anything like every day but what I did learn was that putting your d*mn pen on the d*mn page is just about the most important thing you need to do if you want to be creative - it's often not that easy to write anything but somehow, if you stop judging and editing what you write as you go along, you can sometimes bring on that flow state and the creativity and ideas start to come - the mistake often made imho - is to wait for the ideas to come and for a creativity mood and then think you can pick up your pen and start working at it - that does happen occasionally but it's nowhere near as effective imho as a general strategy if you want to be creative - so - try and adopt a daily or regular writing regime. I keep trying to learn Spanish - partly because I was training for this 31km/8hr swim in Spain http://www.ultraebre.com/index.php/en/ but that's out of the window now because of my shoulder - over 3 years of training down the pan but Spanish is great sounding language to my ears.
  16. Nothing very edgy or new - I used to run to this album a lot because of the relentless pounding rhythms:-
  17. Reposted in (hopefully) a more appropriate sub-forum
  18. I want to hear this for the same reason - I've liked listening to some of her music but only for short periods of time - it's strange and intense.
  19. One of my daughters went to see White Lies in London recently and she's been telling me she's been listening to them a lot. Don't bother - I've listened to a few albums (not the latest 2 - I didn't get that far) - absolute tosh.
  20. I haven't heard this on the radio this year - probably just me though - the official video is not the cheeriest TBH:-
  21. This is how you end up when buying another bass doesn't give you the same high it used to.
  22. I think that's the one Pete Sinfield did the lyrics for.
