I had my acoustic guitar tuned to DADGAD (tried DADF#AD but couldn't connect with it) for over 10 weeks - I had intended to keep it that way until I had written a new song using it - that's the only way I've done it in the past but this time I've given up and put it back into standard tuning - it's a relief TBH. I decided I need to buy another guitar and to keep one of them for working with non-standard tunings.
