  1. Up until earlier this week  this was fitted to my Alpher bass. It’s a Dingwall 4 position switch which is attached  to a quality tone pot. The switch alone retails at 65 dollars if you buy from Dingwall in the US (possibly around the same in Sterling if you import one). It’s in perfect working order and excellent condition imageproxy.php?img=&key=d49e236f730b63a2having been removed by the guys at Alpher.  If you need further information please do let me know.

  2. For Sale, a set of excellent Nordstrand PJ pickups that will fit a 4 string bass. I have just taken these off my Alpher bass as I have a desire for something a little more vintage. But if you want punch, clarity and a modern sound without having to resort to active circuitry these are the babies!  Here is a link to the very ones on the Nordstrand site, where you can get any information you need including dimensions etc. I f you have any questions please ask away.

  3. I have decided to keep the bass and have some modifications made to it by Alpher. It seems to be the most sensible course of action as the build quality is exceptional, the weight is spot on and I am learning to live with the appearance. Thanks to all those who have posted or sent messages for their input.

Sure is, bloody amazing bass. The pick ups and pre give so many sound options it really can do everything. Build quality is amazing and the customer service from the guys at Alpher is top quality too.
    GLWTS dude.

Thanks Walshy. Hope you are keeping well. Much appreciated mate. One or two interesting offers trade wise but not quite right based on what I am hoping for.

  5. My Alpher Cobia V2 Prime is available again after my recent trade didn’t proceed in the end. This is a very unique bass built by a highly regarded luthier. It has a high level of specification with Hipshot hardware used throughout, Nordstand Blade p/j pickups and a Dingwall four position selector switch.(Please see full spec below as supplied by Chris at Alpher. Current RRP for this bass is in the region of £3000 - £3500). The bass comes in a very sturdy Hiscox hard case with a special adjustment tool and some oil to treat the roasted maple neck. For a passive instrument  the range of  tones is wide and the weight is in the light range at 3.8 kg. It’s mint with no visible finish ‘dings’ and could be mistaken for new.

Being a lover of Jazz style basses I would gladly accept a trade for something in this area providing the value is equivalent. I am also happy to accept a trade plus cash, or will be able to put a small amount towards the right instrument if the opportunity comes along. Also interested in Musicman and Sandberg basses. Please send any questions or offers via pm. Thank you.

I  am happy to ship at the buyers expense and risk but equally happy to meet somewhere to personally deliver the bass safely.

(photo of the bass on scales provided kindly by Walshy).

    Cobia V2
    34 inch scale
    21 fret
    Nickel silver frets
    One piece rippled ash body
    Roasted maple neck, figured.
    Rocklite fingerboard
    Nordstrand PJ blade pickups
Passive electronics (vol, 4 way, tone)
    Hipshot kickass bridge
    Hipshot ultralite tuners
    Worn black / white finish
    Black / aluminium layered pickguard
    Aluminium control plate

If that bass was ordered again today it would be in the £3000-£3500 range depending on the exact pieces of wood chosen.

  6. An absolute  pleasure to deal with Alain. Traded my bass for a lovely AC Retro B which  was in excellent condition as described.  I spent a pleasant hour or so in his company and found Alain to be friendly, personable and very informative.  Top guy and highly recommended BC’er.

  7. I picked this bass up in a trade recently. It’s absolutely mint and like new, it plays beautifully with a medium low action and has just had new Markbass strings fitted. For the uninitiated Alpher Instruments are fast gaining a world wide reputation as bass and guitar builders, and are firmly established as one of the UK’s premium luthiers. The wait for their instruments can be long, so grab yourself the opportunity to score a mint example at well under RRP!

I am happy to consider a straight trade for a bass of equivalent value and have a preference for jazz style basses. I am also happy to look at something cheaper with cash my way or even a more expensive instrument with a small cash contribution from me, it depends on what’s out there.  I have specced the bass on the Alpher website and you can see the new RRP in the attachment, along with all the relevant build/spec details.. As far as I know this is the only bass of its kind. It comes with a branded Alpher Hiscox case, and a special adjusting tool. I am happy to drive a reasonable distance to meet a prospective buyer, or even deliver myself to a local destination.  No offence intended but I would rather not send the bass outside of the UK.  I will be open to a trade for  a nice short or medium scale bass as well.

If you have any questions or trade offers  please drop me a pm ,I will be more than happy to assist.

    Cheers.

Great bass at a great price, some one is going to be very happy indeed! GLWTS

Thanks for your comment. I hope so. It needs to be played and used by someone who can really do justice to it.
