1. Its home and I've hardly put it down. I told Jon I wanted something that sounded like my 78 P bass but played like my stingray. Well so far it sounds as good if not better than The P Bass, Its got the extra Jazz PU to give me a bit more flexility and it plays fantastic! Way better than the stingray. It even slaps better (not that I undulge in much slapping - just Areoplane in guitar shops ) I've only tried it on my practice amp at the moment. Can't wait to unleash it on the Ashown rig in the week  Compared to the P Bass, its as light as a feather too. Anyway here's a few pics... (Sorry they're a bit crappy quality its a dindgy old dull day) Orange LEDs bit self indulgent, but who cares. Off to be alone with it a bit more
2.
So where are the pics then?
shhh... its not morning yet
3. I'm off to pick up my Bass from Jon in the morning If I go to bed now, do you think the morning will come quicker
4. Well six day to go until i pick it up Jon sent me some pics he took a couple of weeks ago, just to keep me calm Next week is going to drag
5. I know what you mean. Mine was supposed to be ready at the begining of this week. I phoned Jon and he's up to his neck (sorry ) trying to get basses ready for bass day this weekend. I found myself telling him to leave it to the following weekend Now I'm picking it up on the 17th. Its a 4.5 hour drive each way, but I couldn't face sitting by the front door waiting for a delivery van for a week! At the end of the day he's a nice guy, but probably a bit over optimistic on his build time estimates.
6. He's probably playing it. No sense of priority
7. My first bass line I (tried) to learn was Princess of the Streets off Rattus Norvegicus Learned it on a woolworths accoustic guitar, then I bought a hofner 185 for £15. I sprayed it black, obviously
8. 6 Months! I'd be gibbering wreck Jon did say when I ordered mine that it would be straight forward. He had the Pickups wound locally so there was no delay there. Did he say why yours has taken so long? Was it puttng the individual sparkles on?
9. Had an e-mail from Jon last night. He's just got to level/polish the frets and put it all together. Looks like my bass will be finished next week That's almost exactly 14 weeks. Seems a lot longer though
10. That is one lovely bass. Congratulations.
11. Yes. me too. I was just going to have just gloss black but Jon had a telecaster in his store that was maple blackburst. It was all bit much for me really. I couldn't help myself. "I want one like that", I said. I spoke to Jon yesterday and he said it should be finished in a couple of weeks At this point I realised it should be ready for our next gig I do recall Jon mentioning lacquer and more lacquer and then lacquer again, but my mind was elsewhere at this point  Can't wait
12.
Oh goodness ... That's a 4 way race ...
Actually, its five
13. That does look the nuts I just had some some pics of mine. Its roughly at the same stage as yours. You could say they're neck and neck (sorry)
14. Got some more pictures from Jon last night. He's drilling the neck for the tuners tomorrow. Funny. My wife doesn't seem as excited about it as me
15. Hi, this is me trying out my £100 beer holder for the 1st time
16.
Martin Sims is ahead of you there
D'oh! Can't wait to show our drummer the laser drum sticks
17.
Looks like a double battery route at the top there .. may not be, of course You only need one for the lights, assuming they are "normal" ones and not light show flashers
Now there's a thought. Lasers!
18. Yep. I really wanted that passive tone. If Jon's routed for a future pre-amp, that's great. Although its got LEDs, so I assumed the extra route was for that.
19. Jon e-mailed me the following pics last night. He should be painting it in the next week or so. I haven't been this excited since my dad bought me a Raleigh Chopper
20. Just got my first pics from Jon. I think its the long bit that you hold with your left hand Jon's off on holiday next week. So looking forward to some seaside shots
21. I'd just about calmed down. I'd got back to sleeping through the night ok. ...and now you guys have got me all excited again
22. I went and saw Jon the other day and decided to have him build me a bass. I wanted something with that 70s sound but a bit easier on the shoulder than my 78 P bass and a bit more flexible. So this is what I've gone for: J Bass IV white ash / swamp ash body quilted maple front and back black gradient burst (very dark on edge to light smoke in middle) polyester baecoat wet look gloss topcoat maple neck birdseye board 21 frets black blocks (poss crushed black pearl effect) Led side dots - orange Gotoh GB707 tuners - cosmo black P/J pickups, P as JJ Burnel, J wound to match Jon is going to send me some pics to ease the next 3 months In that time I will have to break the news to my wife
23. Hi, I've been lurking for a while. The change to a new site seemed a good time to introduce myself. Been playing bass for 30 years but with a 25 year break. I like both sorts of music, that's The stranglers and the chilis Thats about it really. Simon
