  1. I properly stumbled across 5 strings back in 2004 ish , in a strange Gas incident .

I obviously knew all about them , and saw the various special editions in Bass Player Magazine etc explaining everything about them in a very informative way . .

What happened was that a close friend of mine said we should checkout this new basement  shop under Virgin Records in Tottenham Court Road one Saturday .  ( sound control ) It was there I saw this nice shiny bass hanging on the wall . Times were not too sad then , so I plugged in and had a look at it . " Are you going to buy this ?" I was asked by a senior member of staff. I got a price reduction , so I said yes.
It was a Schecter Stilletto Elite 5 string in cherry / black . Looked similar to my Washburn status in colour .

In the shop , due to my limited abilities I was playing the B note as a thumb rest .

Within weeks however, I ' got it ' , and it was no big deal . I could find songs by ear without as much effort as on a 4 for some sings.

The feel and action of the Schecter was great . ( BTW you don't really see any bad reviews or experiences on that particular model)

However, being in 2 bands and having to up my playing so to speak ( and financial difficulties) I had to let it go .
My playing in cover bands improved , and I had to up my game if I wanted to gig etc.

The trouble with playing live for me was I tended to ' showboat ' as I was told by an old band member . Not being arrogant , but because of nerves on stage and I wanted people ( and me ) to enjoy our set . Thankfully I never got criticised by crowd or bands.
I couldn't do that on a 5 string , as too many Les Dawson moments would have got me sacked . 😬

I don't gig anymore and am more into synths / amateur soundcloud recording etc. I have a Bass Whammy, and have a fretless set to B-E-A-D . I don't know if it's worth me getting another 5 er or not . If I did, I'd have to trim the herd.
one of my friends who's a bass player, said it's easier to sell a 4 string and that if you have a 5 I'd have a hard chance selling it should I want to in the future .

    This is Basschat though 🤔

  2. Jefferson airplaine -white rabbit

When I used to listen to planet Rock , it always happened to be on . For some reason, whichever presenter played it they never told us who iit was I was hearing . Honestly , it is dated crap . Depressing is an understatement . Morrissey has the enthusiasm of a children's entertainer compared to this drivel . One depressing monotonous tone. She does shout randomly in places , but I can honestly say it was the worst song ever played on planet Rock. I don't miss hearing it ..

Is it the Cricket reference that bothers you 🤔

As a child ( understandably so) , " I don't like cricket ..I love it ! "I didn't know what the singer was going on about .  I understand it now ,but I think you are correct .

Repetitive rubbish . Not in the same standard as good morning judge imho 🙂

  4. Bad Gear ( Audio Pilz)  is my fave you tube channel .
Not bass related , and more synth stuff . Musical genius, with a great sense of humour . His weekly show on Fridays is only 10 mins long approx , but great entertainment .

I watch sonicstate also , which of later months is hit and miss . It depends who is on the panel on the day . Weds 4pm

I tend to watch next day in case it gets boring . Some of the guests and topics are really good though .

Gaz Williams is a phenomenal bass player ( also synths etc ) , and is good entertainment when he is on .

looppop is a great reviewer of all things electronic . Highly recommend

  5. I would not go ahead due to it being FB Marketplace , plus the fact that the ' seller ' is not exactly round the corner .

That's just me ., and onky imho . You are right in being  a bit twitchy , over sending £1, 000.
Alarm  bells should be ringing in your ears .  Your decision at the end of the day .

  6. I only saw Sabbath twice . ( Dio 1980 hammy odeon / Ozzy Hyde park 2014)

Up in the balcony for the Hammy O gig and hated it . Prefer Dio solo and saw him quite a few times over the years.
Saw Ozzy solo a few times over the years also .

So having said that , when I saw sabbath at Hyde Park I think Geezer was the driving force on the night .

Sabbath played a blinder, but being not too far from the band , Geexer was phenomenal .

I was listening to all my brothers sabs albums in the '70s and eventually I now have all the Ozzy era sabs studio albums .

Dio era sabs not for me , although the neon nights singke is immediately punchy . Trouble with Dio, he was not a proper producer and he ruined some of his albums . Live Evil I did have , but moved it on . Preferred speak of the devil . I don't play that now.
The production of some of the early sabbath albums was poor imho. Myself and a few friends were asking whether Bill ward was playing on buckets on master of reality . My fave is vol 4 . As for what is Geezers best baseline ..too many to choose from .

fwiw, I never gave sabbath much consideration , when it became Tony and friends . I may have to have a listen to the stuff I've missed.

many killer geezer bass lines probably 🙂

  7. David Bowie & iggy pop- The passenger . When I was doing my very first gig on my ltd talents, we had to play this as the singer was all things Bowie . ( Actually , he was a more unenthusiastic version ) . I never heard it , until I had to learn it on a cassette tape.

One boring monotonous drone really . " who's the other guy singing ? Sounds like he has a cold?"  " That's iggy pop " I was informed .

  8. Communards - Don't leave me this way . A good song completely ruined by sweep impersonations ( sooty and sweep )

    Marillion - Kayleigh

Wet Wer wet - love is all around . Wasn't that song no.1. In the charts for absolutely ages?  . I know it's not the original either

  9. Regarding Ilok , I purchased the moogerfooger plugins from a third party website . All good , until I had issues with Ilok.

However , I got lucky as out of the blue  Moog sent an email to a link that means I don't have to use Ilok anymore . Hurrah!

I don't think my 2017 iMac will go as far as  Sonoma  , so in theory I shouldn't have much to worry about in the ltd software  stuff I have . That said , there is another update tonight apparently  on Ventura . I've just restarted the iMac now .
Crapple seem to be doing updates almost weekly now , on my iPhone and iPad .  They are like bored hyperactive children with no boundaries.  The hassle that the updates were causing me , were mainly Reason who were slow to catch up . Hopefully , this update won't upset it again ..

Many years ago I used to work in a bar, and during idle moments myself and my colleague would compete to see who could mix the most revolting drink to make the other one throw up (Malibu + tomato juice + Iron Bru etc.....🤮)

Must listen to “Sally” (being a big Joy Division and Smiths melancholia fan.....)

I have mixed feelings about Springsteen - 50% American cliche, but 50% worthy successor to Dylan.......? 🤔

Normally when someone says " trust me " ..you know they cannot be trusted . However, on this occasion trust me , sally is awful.😬
