I played about 15 seconds of each of the tracks that I was interested in and the thing that struck me was that how terrible most of the isolated sounds were, but how perfect they are when you hear the final mix. It all goes to prove that there is no great bass tone, just one that works well with a particular combination of musicians and instruments, and why for the most part chasing someone else's tone is a futile exercise.
yes, good news for us sloppy bass players 😂

If these are Wharfedale Titans you can probably get spares from them. I had to replace a driver in my EVP subs and they provided a reasonably priced replacement within 48 hours.
Over 15 years all sorts of events may have affected your speakers and failure after that time could be down to all sorts of things. That they lasted this long suggests you weren't doin much wrong.
Having said that speakers at this price point won't be long throw so it is possible that over excursion may be a problem if you are mic'ing the kick especially if you are using any bass boost. Again after years of safe usage this is not that likely.
Double check your speaker though, it's possibly working and the fault could be a cable, the internal wiring inside the cab or something wrong in the crossover, there may even be a fuse on the crossover board
I've already got a new speaker from IAG, ordered yesterday, arrived today £106 all in, so not too bad and it has solved the problem, I certainly don't use bass boost on the kick, tbh it's not very loud, but it keeps the drummer happy.
I was just wondering what are the chances we'll be shelling out for another one in the near future

after about 15 years of use, and well over 500 gigs, we've just managed to blow one of the bass drivers in the Titans, just wondering on the likelihood of the other one going, it's a bit tricky deciding whether we're putting too much power through them as they're rated at 400 watts RMS and the Yamaha is rated at 350 watts at 8ohms and 500 at 4 ohms but doesn't give any info on whether these are RMS figures.
We daisy chain the front of house speakers so the amp is giving out potentially 500 watts (4 ohms) but with 2 speakers I'm assuming that they get 250 watts each so we shouldn't be overloading them, correct?
If we're not overloading them what else causes bass drivers to go?
The PA is used for Vocals and bit of bass drum

Talking of Paul Simon, Mrs Robinson made no sense till I found out it was written about Mrs Roosevelt, the President's wife, they needed a song for the Graduate, so he just changed the name without changing the lyrics, idle sod

Zoom B1on user, I have a B1 four but prefer the B1on, only use various distortion and eq

I can't stand the Lemonheads version of Mrs Robinson. The bass line does my head in.
there you go, opinions, love the version and the bass line, it's almost playing the lead, we play it regularly, always goes down well

I'm just seeing if I can get the vein in @Woodinblack's temple throbbing. And it seems a little arbitrary selecting me to patronise, as the whole of this thread has been opinions. And emojis are for losers.

Nonsense. It conveys the raw emotion far better than the original did.
I always think it's wise to start these sort of comments with IMO, a smiley helps as well

He gets a fair few mentions in both the Best and Worst threads. Which tends to suggest that he got it about right
yep, to be a worthwhile cover it should be radically different from the original, otherwise what's the point?

I think we've had a "Worst cover version ever" thread as well, can't be arsed to look for it though, I seem to remember Mr Cocker getting a mention
-
Very much a matter of opinion, I like Joe Cocker's version, one of the few Beatle covers I prefer to the original.
Can't stand Stevie Wonder's version of We Can Work It out, but then again I don't like most of what he's done.
Now where is that tin hat?

Also add the fact that after a certain age (which seems to be the average age of people here 🤔🤦🏻♂️😂), you hear absolutely nothing above 8 kHz...
FIrst thing to do is have an hearing check and you'll be fixed (but not fixed at the same time) about that tweeter you can't hear.
this is true, I wouldn't be without my hearing aids, as an experiment the other day I used my Fender V2 (2 x 8) to play music through via my Hi Fi, while I won't be replacing my normal speakers with it the tweeter made a big difference then, but I can't tell any difference when playing my bass though it, (even with my hearing aids in 😄)
-
I've got a couple of Fender V2 cabs with a similar set up, I have the tweeter off but tbh it's makes bugger all difference whether they're on or off, a tweeter on a bass cab seems like a waste of time to me ymmv

forgive my ignorance in these matters, but aren't worn frets obvious when the end of finger nail is dragged across them?
New stings always buzz more, I use DR neon's and after a few hours there's very noticeable wear at the place where they hit the frets

I'm looking for some inspiration around putting together a setlist for my band.
I'd love to hear what your perform, what goes down well with the punters and is fun to play!
S'manth x
depends what sort of band you are, IMO it's no good trying to please everybody, people get bored with the stuff they don't like, focusing (more or less) on one genre and you'll attract that sort of crowd, for instance Ska is very popular.
I'm in a punk band, but we do stray into heavy rock (whole lotta Rosie) and the novelty songs are popular, Jilted John and Nellie the Elephant, basically people love to sing a long and dance, I'm talking about pub gigs btw

These guys are specialist instrument movers. Not only instruments, valve amps, etc but artwork and other vaulables. They dont require a hardcase.
Their fixed rate for any bass or guitar is £55 insured. They do have a limited area they cover though. Anything outside needs a quote.
When phoning, it's likely to be an answer machine as they really are a small concern, but Len the boss will call you. They're pretty busy people so you wont get next day,
as these peeps are not like the corporate parcel chuckers.
PS i've already used these guys
I hadn't heard of them, so thanks for the heads up, but if you're selling a £200 Bass, it's a big chunk to pay out for delivery, and the buyer isn't the one taking the risk, still, it's good to know

I've never come across a courier that will insure instruments that aren't in a hard case if they'll insure them at all.
It must be unusual for this type of thing to happen otherwise the online sellers of guitars and basses wouldn't send them in a carboard box, which they do, all the time.
I suppose it's up to the individuals attitude to risk as to whether send guitars and basses this way, I've sent a few and got away with it, if I hadn't I'd have taken the hit, I knew it was a possibility

there's a few threads on this subject, here's one

I saw SLF when they headlined a Punk all dayer in Bath, back in 1995. Bruce Foxton on bass 😎
they're better now they've got the original bassist back, bass players do make a difference 🙂, saw them at Stone Valley last year, Jake doesn't look good tbh, and those shirts don't help 😂

we obtained some download codes via Bandcamp, you get about 100 free(might be more can't remember), NOBODY asked for one with the CD's we sold.
38 minutes ago, meterman said:I’m probably something of an anomaly (well, more like definitely, both my parents were fairly odd) in that I’ve not been asked for download codes when I’ve sold vinyl and CDs at gigs, ever. When physical copies of albums and singles have sold on Bandcamp then buyers receive WAVs of the items at point of purchase but that’s as close as I’ve got. I’d love to do some with previously unreleased stuff and give them away with T-shirts or something.
if you're an anomaly , I'm at too 😂

Vinyl? CDs? Streaming?
in General Discussion

spotify free for me, or Youtube, unlike @BigRedXthere's very little that I want to listen too that's not on one of these platforms, I sometimes think I shouldn't, as streaming services provide so little income for small bands compared to CD sales, but it just so convenient and me not using them will make no difference at all, I'm a bit of a pragmatist
edit, I should add that most of my music is on my phone so I listen through that a lot
