Aw shucks! Thanks guys!
The works bash has moved to Friday, with optional stay over on Manchester that night. Which would work very well, except that I am now working away most of the week beforehand, so another day away probably would not go down well.

This is going to be awesome!
Have a great time guys!!

Due to circumstances beyond my control I will be on camera/livestream duties for the foreseeable future and possibly not playing bass until June.
I can only conclude that some junior angels have been listening in on my recent attempts and asked for intervention!

My thoughts are that if you hang the pickup from the pickguard then it might vibrate independently of the strings and body unless the pickguard is incredibly stiff. This isn't what you want at all as that could create a signal even if the strings are still and muted, and wluld definitely add to the signal when playing, so you would want to use foam to dampen that. Mounting to the body would avoid the problem.
Maybe it's insignificant, I don't know.

I have a works event that Saturday, which is most annoying. I would MUCH rather be eating cake and talking bases.
I wonder if/how I can get out of the works thing.... 🤔

Suspect the sheep aren't big users either.
That made me laugh out loud - and then I had to explain to my wife what I was laughing at.

Aluminium is a commodity metal, so ring for the price might just be the norm as it might suddenly vary wildly.
If you have a machine shop or small engineering fabricator nearby they might be able to help.

Hi @PTB
At this rate not until the summer sometime. I'm likely to be working away from home much of the week for some months, so weekends are getting booked up as the only time to do things at home. Apri, May and June are now out for me 😞
What we should have done, of course, was to immediately book the venue and date straight after the last one, thus putting a stake in the ground before anything else.
If anyone else wants to organise a bash then please go ahead!!

That's great. I'm only playing 5 string these days, but have a bump for a very cool bass.

Popped up on Spotify. Dead simple, some might think cheesy, but I rather liked it. This would make a great and unusual addition to a Wedding band repertoire.

It was supposed to be The Grateful Dudes in Kings Heath tomorrow, but instead I will have to mend the dishwasher 🥲
So it's just Eric Clapton, Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets, Half Man Half Biscuit and the Dudes (again) to look forward to over the next few months. Mustn't grumble!

I happened to see these in B&Q this afternoons and thought "Those might be useful outside in a marquee". They might do as stage lights too.

I love these build threads.
I am both envious of the talent and jealous of the tools. Or possibly the other way round.

Boingy is good. I like the max bass version.

Are you going to accommodate him and get in touch to explain what you were thinking/taking when you wrote it?
Yes, but if anything comes of it I'll start a separate thread. I didn't intend to hijack this one.
And a bass IS way cooler than software, regardless of anyone else's view.

Thanks, it was a steep learning curve, both making and learning how to play a bass (another school-friend in the band having to tell me the notes to play, initially). We all just follow our passions, i guess
I've recorded a short audio clip - i notice on playback i've helpfully included some noise as well (low-output pickup, high-gain, etc) i've tried to even the level in places, but the Tone should be flat EQ throughout
I've just listened to that on proper speakers. What a great tone! Not sure how to describe it, sort of "fretless boingy bass", in a good way.

Thanks ...but not as cool as programming and selling games for Spectrums (Spectra?!?) at age 17! I'm sure there is a Speccy emulator somewhere on which you could still run your game
There are, but I'm not sure I could face it. It was quite hard. Fortunately there is a chap who is playing through every known Computer RPG, and he actually played and reviewed it in 2021. I only found this link yesterday, so I am still reeling a bit.

That bass is excellent!
It has certainly lasted longer than the only thing of note I made when I was 17, which was a Sinclair Spectrum game. We had it published and made some money, but unlike a physical bass you couldn't just pick it up and play it now.

I just had an explore round the Nonlinear circuits Web site.
He has some other strangely named modules:

Sorry. I'm just really excited to see the bass, as it's such a great story.

Playing in Church.
in General Discussion

Excellent! So do we! I think there are a couple of candidates this Sunday, off the back of Alpha last year.
Yes, definitely. It makes a big difference if those up front look like they enjoy leading worship.
My wide often comments that I seldom smile when playing, and it's usually because I am concentrating rather than enjoying myself. When I've got the song nailed I do smile and move more, but otherwise I just occupy the traditional bass player position in our church - next to the drums and hiding behind a large stone pillar.
