Think you’re on the right track with the idea of six or eight tens. Barefaced and Markbass do some which aren’t crazy weight wise amongst others. My old SVT 810 rig was the punchiest rig I’ve ever used, been chasing that sound with smaller stuff for years but to no avail. 😕

I have had a few SVT cabinets and I know what you mean . My Ashdown ABM 610 seems to get that punch. Maybe an Ashdown Rootmaster 610 would be good- if you can move it.

    Cash Converters…

We got into serious money trouble, through no fault of mine and it’s something I am still bitter about. I loved that bass more than I can express, for more reasons than I want to go into…

it was a Westone Raider I in the silver/grey colour scheme.

This isn’t mine, I have no photos of mine (and my ex kept the photos of my 18th birthday cake that was made in it’s image). Annoyingly, I just found this photo while Googling, and found it on BassChat from a year ago, where it was pointed out that it hadn’t sold on eBay. If only I had come back to BassChat a year earlier!

That body shape is like my Jackson Kelly bass . John Entwistle might like it . I wish my Kelly sounded better...

I'm not sure that's totally correct. Fender first started making fretless basses with the Precision bass in 1970. I could be wrong but I don't think the fretless Jazz appeared until later. I can't actually find any evidence of when Fender released the first fretless Jazz  only forum speak but my Fender Bass boom does talk about the fretless Precision coming out in 1970.

I had an early 70's fretless Precision and it had chrome pickup and bridge covers. I believe it did not have threaded bridge saddles.                                The dark blue Jazz is a lined neck Mexican and one fretless I can play on pitch (usually) . Those lines help.

  4. I am interested in the short-scale Sire U5 . How does it sound compared to the Mustang ? My only complaint on the 'Stang  is the switch crackles when switched . I don't expect an even blend from both pickups combined but it is different enough for some variety. The Sire looks good but it is around $200 cheaper than the Fender Mustang PJ. I have two Mustangs.

  5. You won't regret a Sterling Ray 5 . I have a stripped down Jackson Concert 5 for a tame passive sound. I have a Warwick Corvette 5 for a "hot" biting tone. The Ray 5 can do both sounds. Mine is a nice piece of wood too.(can't find a picture) The Jackson did not sound very good with the stock pickups and preamp. It does balance well and stay in tune. The Warwick balances well on a strap and is even heavier than the Ray 5.

  6. On a bass with a thin neck, a .100 set will not pull on the neck as much. The truss rod is supposed to offset this tension but a .100 set will pull around 40 lbs. less than a .105 set (according to a D'Addariro chart I saw ). My Mustang PJ came with .105 and I will stick to that, maybe stainless for more twang.

Ashdown RMs are good cabs, nice and light/portable and sound really good.

However once they brought out their ABM PRO NEO range I swapped my pair RM210s for a pair of these, again light and portable.

Not had a chance to use them in a band situation yet but they def have the ABM sound, which is slightly deeper and fuller than the RMs.

Lozz, you have made me want these cabinets. Now there is a version (on Musicians Friend ) with a grey fabric grill instead of the metal grill. Are these the same neo 210 cabs as yours ? I would take either, but not one grill cloth and one metal grill. What do you think ?
