  1. I have missed the old column-speaker PA. These would make the days possible again. Don't forget the Beatles used Vox columns for the Shea Stadium gig. Many a band used Kustom and Peavey columns all across Alabama.A powered mixer will make it complete !

The latest from our recent gig at Brentwood Theatre. Bit of a signature song for us this, since our lead made it to the final of 'Stars In Their Eyes' with it. We used the 'Bowie at the Beeb' performance from 27/6/2000 as a template for this version.

The deep bass with the bright, choppy rhythm gtr is very good ! Lead gtr not bad at all ! You should do an album of original songs too.

  3. I have the Ashdown ABM 610 (sadly no longer made). It sounds great but I could never get it up stairs alone. One thing it has that a SVT doesn't is nice recessed side handles so two people can shift it (about 125 lbs.). Now they have a Rootmaster 610 but it may weigh in at 110lbs+. I suppose that one is a good bargain ? It is rated at 900 watts.

  4. I noticed the LP Junior bass had a .105 E string like my Mustang PJ has. Gibson is using maple necks more nowdays. The LP Junior gtr also has a maple neck. The coil-tap is a good feature on this new bass. I hope the pickup is not a bassey EBO sound. -The pickup on my old 70's Ripper was a larger P-90 style with the best (crispest} treble of any Gibson or Epi bass I have owned . They ought to make that pickup. Epi should have made it for the Ripper they had...

  5. I wonder if it is better to go E-E like a gtr  OR B to B  OR B to C ? Does the little string have any bass content or is it to add a little chord like a gtr playing a choppy chord on the "off" beat ? It is something that bands might not dig, like my new Schecter 8 string. I am curious...

  6. When I saw Emerson Lake and Palmer in the '70s the bass cabinet was a "W" cabinet that layed on its side. The 2 15s pointed their sound around some zig-zag and came out the front. It was about 3'high and 5' wide ! The really strange thing was a LARGE high frequency horn on top. I have no idea how it was crossed over. I did buy a green Altec Lancing horn for my bass amp. It got some killer treble until it bit the dust . Then I went to a common SVT and it was good.

  7. The e. q. is way different, yes. I just meant what a V.U. meter would 'see'. The extra mids of a 'bird is not what I meant, although that is the sound that sets it apart. I suppose a compressor could make them all sustain the same.

  8. A neck-through like a Rickenbacker 4003 or a Thunderbird will have a different sustain. A Fender will fade like a bass drum and is more "regular tone " that folks are used to hearing. Maybe true ?

  9. Trick of the Light- The Who ? I had to refresh my Who memory -ha ! Is Ox playing an 8 string bass on that tune ? I noticed he was laid-back and not playing many notes on the verses. This Schecter 8 string is hard to fret cleanly because the big string touches the fret first; then the strings must be pushed down some more for the little string to get down on the fret. This bass might be useful in a 3-piece band. The neck pickup is only a single-coil in a humbucker cover . The bridge pickup is a humbucker.

Nope. I'm not going that upmarket for my first foray into accessories.

I use a Levy M4 strap that is one-ply and 3.5" leather. They cost about $25. You could double-wide your colorful patterns (get some paisley patterns ) , backed with rough suede leather. It would be too wide so you could trim the patterns to make a deluxe 4" strap.

  11. Another way a 610 cabinet may be wired is 8 ohm speakers with each pair connected in series for 16 ohms. Then the 3 pairs are connected in parallel for something like 5 ohms. I think that is what my Ashdown ABM 610 has. Any amp will drive this cabinet well.

  12. Your sound is very clean and distinct ! Maybe if the bass were boosted and some mids cut a bit the high string would not come out . I like the high string . It sounds good now and I want an 8 string too !

I'm not aware that there is an 8 string version of the Model T? If there is I agree it would be a 'looker'.

The Schecter Stiletto I recently got, scratches my itch for 3 band EQ and neck through, whilst being surprisingly modest in weight.

Model T is a 4string or 5string. Another 8string is the bolt-on Session Riot 8 . It is a natural ash body with black parts like the Model T. The neck-through Stiletto like yours probably sounds better. Imagine an 8 string bass alongside a 12 string gtr !

  14. I have wanted an 8-string for a while. The natural (ash) Schecter Riot 8 Session looks great to me because the maple fingerboard matches the body. I considered the short-scale Hagstrum 8 except they have changed back to slide switches instead of a rotary pickup switch . Now they look more like the 60s version. It may not have 8 saddles to adjust intonation . Both Schecters look good and cost about the same. The Model T seems good with a 2-position treble "dip switch" to change the frequency boosted or cut. It comes in a 4string and a 5string.

  15. I like my 2017 Ray best. A "less hot" (mellower) sound I can get with a Deluxe Precision Bass with 3-band e.q. The active mid controls can adjust for the song or picking position . To use the heel of your palm to mute some by the bridge changes any bass sound a lot. I like variety ! How about a Schecter Model T ?

  16. The newer Rays are great. But I would add the new Ray 25 for $500 and $550 for a 5 are good-playing basses. I played a blonde-colored one at the local shop and was impressed with the neck and the sound. They have a 2-band e.q. and ceramic pickup. The Ray 34 is nearly as good as my 2017 US Ray.  The blue Ray 34 in the pictures was made in S.Korea. It has a mahogany back and quilted maple top. It sounds the same as a regular ash body to me. The 2018 Stingray is great and maybe I can buy one if I save up.
