Thanks for input fella's, I do already own a bongo lol, sorry I didn't mention that before. I know it's all about the tone and it is, your right. But I need a nicer looking bass tbh. Im going to look at the 'Ray HH for sure. Thanks for the tip funkypenguin and niceguyhomer. It had crossed my mind I have tried the warwick $$. It is a good bass - for the money its pretty amazing. Very Versatile. But still wasn't blown away by it. Dont bite my head off but I'm not a big Warwick fan. The look is a bit...meh? But yeah, I'll look into the Stingray HH. Im still open to suggestions! Josh

Hey people, Look, the Musicman Bongo bass HH is a blindingly amazing bass. The Tone is incredible. However, we all know the look of the bass resembles what you rest your buttocks upon when relieving yourself of waste products. I need a bass that has this PHAT tone but with less ogre-esk looks. I am in a band and need a bass which is a bit easier on the eyes in a live setting. The Bongo should be a studio bass period but I've just not come across anything else to replace it live...yet. I need it to be a 4 string bass too - this is my band below. I want a fender bass (Jazz?) but I'm afraid no Fender has that huge Humbucker character. Im skint atm but would definately appreciate bass chatters opinions on this. Thanks fella's and fellasses, Josh

Has anyone used a Marshall JCM 2000 - one of the old school models (in that I mean, 4-5 years oldish) I didn't have my bass head for a band practice and used a JCM through my warwick 410. I couldn't believe the tone!! I felt like a Tim Commerford wannabe. It was amazing. So if you got lots of monies to spend, get ya' sen a Marshall JCM 200 100 watt Head. yeah baby!

Is it some sort of boost pedal... sounds very interesting

The thing that does it for me with the Bongo HH is the blend knob between the pickups. It is just amazing. You get all the clarity from the bridge pickup and then just roll in some of the neck pickup and you'll be crying. The 18V preamp is out of this world - but its still an ugly mother!

Well well - If it's just the best tone you're after then its definately the bongo. Very sweet sounding and versatility beyond comprehension. I cannot stress how good the bass is! However, if you want a musicman for both looks and tone, dont get a Bongo haha! Definately get a Sterling. JBC

5 String Bongo Bass all the way. I thought this bass was pretty cool until I went into the studio with it and I was just blown away by the tone. I cant believe how much character this bass has!

I owned pink behringer guitar pedal, its somewhere on a dusty shelf - I think it was called the ultra metal UM100. It was the most horrific I have ever owned. It made my guitar sound like white noise. I never dared put it through my bass. So with that in mind, I have never been a huge fan of behringer pedals

Ive not tried the profet or the x-treme amps but the Tubepath's are very good amps. I have a 5.1 and it's very reliable. Ive been gigging it furiously for 18 months and not had any problems with it whatsoever

Probably not. Very tempting but Im getting more inclined to try out some fender guitar amps - that'll be in the new year. So Im just going to hold off until then. If guitar amps are not for me, I'll defo get back to you mate. JBC

This is true - Thank you for kindly pointing that out. I am going to try the guitar amp theory out - but also going to try out what steve mentioned above about the fx loop.

Steve, Thanks for that input man. I didn't realise the fx loop was post EQ - this is very handy to know and will have a little demo sesh and see what sounds i can come up - a gem of an idea if I do say so myself. Im going to put your idea to the test, but also get my guitarist fender deville, split the signal and see what sounds i can get. Yo the man, JBC

Well, that is an interesting way of looking at it. It's funny you should mention guitar amps - I did some session work with a rickenbacker and a Fender twin and got some seriously gritty distortion. I wont be getting full bottom bass though with guitar amps will I? Im just totally open to suggestions Im defintely going to look into guitar amps for sho JBC
