  2. Loz, as he signs himself in pms, sold me an absolute stunner of a fretless Jazz bass, shipped during lockdown in a hard case,  possibly the one from AndyTravis, really well packed in a proper strong guitar box, tracked next day delivery and of course it arrived in perfect state and has made me very happy. I could only quarantine it for 24 hours before I just had to 'clean' it and play it. Top man, many thanks

A Sunburst Gibson EB2 from 1962, acquired for £50 in 1976. Sold for £100 at one of the pre-cursers to cash converters in Leeds in the 80's, who always had some interesting basses in their packed  windows. Every lunchtime I'd walk around these shops and see what new stock they had.

Come to think of it got my JD Supernatural Roadie from one of them for £350 a few years later.

My first bass was also an EB2, a later one , iirc 1968, blonde, single neck pickup, heavy, high action, lousy intonation, shot electrics, an absolutely beautiful piece of furniture, but hard to play and so not the sound I was trying to make which was reggae played on a JB or PB; paid £150 for it ( roughly 7 weeks dole money back then), complete with similarly battered original case from a guy who worked with my mate at Windows in Newcastle in late 1985 and I swapped it three years later for an nice old cheap archtop guitar with a friend who really wanted it, when I left Newcastle. We lost touch about 15 years ago as I stopped going to London and he never leaves London except to go to see his family in Italy, I hope he still has it. The archtop got stood on by an idiot (me 🙄)

  4. I bought some pickups off ThomannUK site yesterday, when I started looking into them were £111 and by the time I bought them after checking prices from other suppliers and checking out reviews they had gone down to £109 so they obviously update the prices pretty regularly, probably daily, as the currency changes; with paypal checkout there's no fees or currency charges you pay in £

Paypal billed me £109 as advertised and charged £109 to my bank account

  5. James/Jim bought my signature Kala SUB UBass, lovely easy transaction, great comms and very quick to let me know it had arrived safely and he was happy

I look forward to seeing what comes out of his guitar workshop 😎

  6. The three I saw live late 70's/1980

    Rush

    Thin Lizzy

Queen (Liverpool Empire, the best gig I ever saw, at their real pomp with an audience who sang Walk Alone at the band with barely any prompting)

and the ones I didn't see Bob Marley and the Wailers(turned down a ticket to Deeside, biggest regret of my musical life), Pink Floyd(brother sold his spare Wall tickets for big money, took a long time to forgive him for that), Weather Report (missed them at Glastonbury as stuck on Guernsey)

  7. Been asked about weight sorry I didn't have the details to hand yesterday when I listed but have got it out and tried weighing it this morning - I've tried different scales cheap luggage scale, bathroom scales and post scales (difficult to get a consistent reading on these) and get somewhere between 3895g and 4010g so I'd say 8.8lbs, none of the scales are calibrated/tested and the bathroom scales only read in 0.5Kg increments

    Nut width is 42mm

    Fretboard radius is 7.25"

  8. I've seen a fretless that I'd like to buy, and since the seller is also selling a fretted P I'll not bother him with trade request so will put this up for sale in the belief of if it is meant to be it will be

  9. Ebay used Fender Bass prices have dropped I think by 10-20% in the last month, MIM Jazz and Precisions go for 300-350, if they are auctions with a low starting price, and most listed with high start prices tend to be pulled before they sell as no longer available so I'd assume they are also for sale on FB or advertised elsewhere so face to face deals for less than advertised Ebay price get done; Telecasters always do seem to be overpriced though, both Squiers and Fender so much so that new Squier FSR Bullet Tele at sub £150 for a well made really playable guitar (albeit thinner body but very resonant) make a lot of sense for instant gratification and incremental upgrading

  10. I've been through this once a couple of years ago, I ended up requesting a phone call back from Ebay and explained the situation to them, they looked at the email communications and reinstated the feedback. This was with a big overseas seller and they'd appealed at local level (China) to have the feedback removed, but speaking to an operator actually in the US he agreed it shouldn't have been removed so it was reinstated, but a couple of weeks later I looked and it had been removed again, they were a bigger seller than I am a buyer so they won out - I'm not sure if you can actually talk to Ebay anymore they have made it almost impossible to get customer support you just go round in circles never getting anywhere.

  11. Picture of the damage, the bass was well wrapped in bubble wrap and inside a strong cardboard box and no apparent damage to the box in transit but this cracking of the varnish was evident on first inspection; I thought that the damage, which is slight, just hadn't been declared, I didn't know it had happened in transit; the bass plays fine but John quickly offered to take it back so I returned it to him. I asked @Andyjr1515 opinion if it could have been caused by cold shock as I had tried to be very careful about bringing the package up to room temperature before opening it in the evening, it had been well below freezing here first thing in the morning so the package was very cold when delivered and had been in the workshop which is unheated all day

  12. Asked about the Roqsolid cab cover, I keep my cab at work so protects when being moved and keeps the dust off in the workshop, this is the standard Ampguard model with the felt lining; blue binding no pockets or flap covers, it goes all the way almost to the floor with the standard feet fitted to the cab, worth repeating the link https://www.amplifiercoversonline.com/zencart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=102&products_id=8339

I finally got round to getting a Roksolid cover for my speaker, so now it is coming to gigs with me, and it is doing well. For some reason the last gig I have had to turn my volume down as it was too loud.

I was really impressed with the cover, the BC discount and the free cable bag that came with it, I phoned them up and said so, top service. I have blue trim on the cover to match the cab of course
