In my neck of the woods a change in ownership of a pub/ bar is " the kiss of death" and usually means one thing. No more bands. Blue

We dropped one of our regular venues, the hours were not good 9:30-1:30 and the place was in a dangerous area. Blue

I believe it's from an interview I saw on YouTube. Blue

" If your breathing your playing the gig" Buddy Rich 😄

When to turn down gigs. I think it's a worthwhile discussion. Outside of an illness what are some of the reasons we turn down gigs and how we feel about it. Here are a few we're all familiar with. Please comment on each or add other reasons. 1. Not enough money 2. Distance issues 3. Prior bad experience with the venue 4. Scheduling problems. Band members play in other bands. 5. Something doesn't seem right. Blue

True, especially when everything is clicking. The band was good and playing to a nice crowd that's into the band. It makes. That 3 1/2 hours go by fast. We worked hard for that money. Blue

Dave, I played a paid benefit for the Washington County Humane Society thus past Thursday. A reputable organization I was happy to do it. Here in the States you have to be careful with these charities and benefits. Many times they're poorly organized and questionable. I say a "red flag" is when you find out out all other vendors and people providing goods or services are being paid and the only folks unpaid are the bands. Blue

You are not the bad guy. That money was intended for the band. It was your call to donate or not. If I understand the story this is very bad form bordering on theft. Tips are a widely given an accepted here in the States. Last night tips were outstanding. Instead of taking home $200.00, I go home with $230.00. Blue

We played a really nice private event last night at Music and Media in Rockfield WI from 8:30 - 12:00. A 15 minute commute Very intimate setting with a nice engaged crowd. I'm blessed playing with such nice people over the past 9 years. IBlue

Fun thread. I really didn't think anyone would be interested in this. Blue

Agreed Blue

Nita also does a ton of clinics when she's not on the road with Alice. She has a deal with Ibanez. Then she has side gigs with the band Sound Check, which is The Alice Cooper band I'm not sure she takes her own money to fund that bus. Blue

The acoustic division of Maple Road played The Harley Davidson Motor restaurant Saturday night from 5:30- 8:30. We play there once every 2- 3 months. We have a good relationship with Harley and they book us for several large sumner events. Great hours, great looking place, easy load in abd out. We play right in front of the bar which is also the route to the exit. Everyone has to walk by the band when they leave , so tips are fantastic . They have a very upscale crowd. My big joy was having a stage monitor that I could actually hear my bass. I could hear every note I played crystal clear. Blue

They send the band a check a few days prior to the gig. They comp drinks and right before the last set they take orders from the band for anything on the menu, also comped. I use to give you guys a hard time about comped food, but know I see the value to it. And OMG! state of the art clean huge bathrooms. Then we have those places that seem to go out of their way to make it difficult for bands Blue

Nobody on that bus is a known brand or famous. I don't know how they can afford that bus or hotel rooms. I would bet they're playing small venues at $10.00-$15.00 per ticket. Blue

I would love to be touring from town to town on that bus. I could do it with my band. I've known them for 9 years and they're top notch people and cool to be around Blue

Your right Dave. Bass to a DI and DI to the main PA. Blue

When did you decide to give up your day job and go fer it?

I need every cent of my gig money to supplement my pension. It's better than working part time at a store. Blue -
Sounds good Blue

I was really good about keeping my cool about setting up and starting late because the tournament went late. Plus the tournament was partially responsible for the nice crowd. This is the second time I've done an acoustic gig in The ROAD HOUSE front bar. There were probably between 75 and 100 people in the bar. I think we all know when you get close to 100 people in a small bar it's dangerously packed. We we're booked for 3:00-6:00 3/23. We didn't start until 3:45. We played until 6. I go direct into the mains, we don't use any amps for acoustic shows. I couldn't hear myself and wasn't very happy with my playing. Blue

Not until I retired at age 61. I guess that doesn't count. Blue -
I wonder how they can afford that tour bus. It must cost at least 1k a day to keep it on the road. Blue

Agreed, eggs and kale sounds like a dangerous combination. Blue

Why wasn't it in the cards for me. 1. Not good enough 2. Not enough commitment or smarts when I was young. Blue
