  1. Agreed "Walk This Way " could be tough. It certainly would be challenging for me. The other members work have to be able to nail their parts. It's a very fast song and it's hard to hear exactly what the bass player is doing. I would need. YouTube bass tutorial for " Walk This Way" Blue
  2. Is this band going to provide you with whatever your looking for in a band? The singer not participating in the audition is a red flag there could be other problems within the band. Blue
  3. Disagree? I agree with all those points. Blue
  4. Cool, We have a private event next weekend. It's money so I'll make the best of it. However I think it's one of those scenarios where the host is a huge fan of the band, usually the guests are not. I guess I shouldn't say not a fan of the band. Not a fan of live rock music at a party. Daryl
  5. Pete, 100 people in a pub sounds good to me.Especially after last weekend when we had 10. Daryl
  6. No life for me after gigging. Started gigging at 12 now at 65 gigging more than ever. Having a blast I love it. I become depressed when I have a weekend without a gig. I have life long friends that challenge me and ask why I'm still doing this It's like their talking in a foreign language. Why would I stop? It's like telling me; 'You know, you should really think about stopping having fun." Blue
  7. Huge decline in the appreciation of live music at the local level. Blue
  8. I think us seniors have to accept the fact a lot of gigging protocol we grew up with are no longer relevant. Blue
  9. This is great advice for new bass players interested in adding legs to their bass Blue
  10. At the earliest age possible; Understand your strengths and weaknesses. Understand what you want to do with your playing, teach, perform, write and what level you can realistically achieve. Learn to recognize pitfalls and real opportunity. Blue
  11. Mine were. Blue
  12. I think there's enough seniors here for this discussion. Playing for 50 years alone really doesn't mean much. What have you done, how have you adapted, and what have you learned that you can share that might help new bass players. Blue
  13. Seems like there's this pre-conceived notion that rock covers are easy with easy bass lines. I say be careful going into an audition with that notion. Blue
  14. Yes, even in my area a solid gigging band will advertise publically to fill a position. It can happen, but not often. Blue
  15. Agreed 100% Pete. Daryl
  16. That's a good thing. I'm not naturally likeable or personable. When I'm on stage it's something I have to work hard at. Blue
  17. Are they're a gigging band? Great question, because it could be a conflict of interest. How many of you guys have found out that several gigs for your band were turned down because an internal duo had booked those dates? Blue
  18. On the other side of the coin when a bar is packed with a supportive engaged crowd and the band is " hot " 4 hours seems like nothing. Blue
  19. I never look for great Musicians, I'm a band guy so I look for good people, good entertainers, likeable people. Many talented Musicians are introverted and not really good candidates for a band. Take a look at this short clip. Jerry and Chet are both introverts, it's how they got so good. They make what is very difficult seem effortless and easy. While introverted they also became entertainers and likeable. I'm not sure what my point is. Blue
  20. Cool, I hope your considered and they are what your looking for in a band Blue
  21. Agreed, if a guy is looking for a busy gigging band with good pay , you don't audition for a "for fun only" band. Blue
  22. In my area most publically advertised opportunities are " for fun" bands. Bands that are gigging a lot and making money don't advertise to the public. Blue
  23. Is there a reason you'd want to be in a band that's out of your depth? Blue
  24. We played a great looking club called Rock Country. The club is annexed to a high end strip club franchise. No built in crowd and I knew we were doomed as soon as I walked into the place. Awful gig, nobody came out to see us Longest 3.5 hours of my life. Good thing the pay was good. I'm sure they lost money. Blue
  25. Interesting, the common denominator here seems to be attendence. Look for a discussion on poor attendance soon. Blue
