  1. Dunno mate, I cranked mine and the volume peaked at about 2 o'clock but no crackle.  Through both my cabs (remember to flick the ohms switch, kids!) with volume and gain at about 1 O'clock it was brown-sound worthy.  Not for volume per se but richness.  Like the learned wisdom of one who has lived 'it' vs the brash power of the one who believes 'it' can be bought about by sexy force (the PF-500).

Reading that back I'm not sure that makes much sense but I'm sticking by it...

09.30 after logging online call at 11.00pm last night - message from shop apologising profusely and telling me they are setting up an exchange (pick up and drop off at same time) as soon as they can.

If I still don’t like it then full refund. Phone number and name of assistant provided if I have any questions or concerns.

Yeah - I can’t fault that at all. It’s the sort of service you hope for but don’t always get.

Glad it's getting sorted.  Mine arrived today and have to say, it's perfect!  Reached straight for that '74 P w/ flats, instant joy!

Happy New Tube Amp Day to us all!

Worth seeing if you get a clean signal from the preamp out. If you do,  problem is the power section, if you don't I'd suspect the preamp tubes. (  reseating may help )

    Sage advice.

Mind you, I'll need counselling if mine isn't perfect !

    Same here =D

I’d reject that - for a brand new item I’d rather it just worked as intended without any user intervention or messing about..

I hear you but maybe you can blag a bigger discount or an extra set of tubes which will save you money down the line?  Or maybe I'm just too much of an opportunist and need to stop trying to work every angle haha

But that said, if it were mine and I didn't try reseat the tube and sent it back losing £15 for the pleasure to find out that's all it was, I'd be kicking myself.  I'd probably make a video of the fault, when they inevitably suggest reseating, tell them I'm not comfortable doing it because the manual says get a qualified tech to do it (bonus point!) "and I don't want to void any warranty or ruin anything by attempting reseating, but I don't want to return it so I'm in a pickle here..."  Surely they'd send some new tubes quick sharp because they'd rather that than deal with a return... or maybe this is just the point where my mind does the GAS equivalent of the infamous "I'm here to fix your pipes" blue movie scene...

  4. Great sounding amp for its size. At low volume I prefer the tone of this to my PF-500.

Have used at rehearsal in a band with three guitars and keys before (kinda Alt-Americana though, more Wilco than Sonic Youth) and it held up. Good as a monitor if you're hooking it up to a PA for larger gigs, perfect for smaller gigs, pubs with noise limiters etc.

Tiny split in head handle (pictured) but only a surface split. Handle still intact.

Trials welcome, I'm in Walton On Thames.

When I work up this morning, I didn't think, "Today I'm going to buy a tube amp!". And yet, here we are.

Neither did I.  And yet here we are again...

    Oh Dear,

my hand slipped, and I've ordered the PF50T !

Have to put my Traynor YBA-1 up for sale, now !

Must be a slippery button because it almost happened to me too...

But I've got a PF-500 already and an SCR-DI so figured the features lacking in the PF-20T can be accounted for elsewhere, right?

    Or should I order a PF-50T too...

  6. They were my favourite band as a kid for the first 2 albums, 3rd I prefer now I'm older but beyond that, yeah, safer than a high vis jacket in the popemobile.

Dave Grohl though, love him. Have all the time in the world for him. And for those saying about boring basslines, check out some of Nate Mendel's earlier work with Sunny Day Real Estate and Juno (album A Future Lived In Past Tense). I respect them immensely for who they are and where they came from and what they meant to me as a kid.

  7. Good for a cheap project, came with a crappy Squier I bought.  Collection or postage gets both.

Sorry the pic is upside down 😃

  8. Man, all you weirdos that held on to your guitars and didn't sell them on to fund your GAS... what's wrong with you all?  How can you have so much self control and where can I get some?
And you'll never know the bittersweet pang of regret when you sell something and only realise what a fool you are years later.  Or sometimes an hour later.

Or sometimes as you're receiving the cash...

A czech Jolana, bright red, short scale if I remember correctly. Nylon wound strings. That was back in the 80's.

I was looking at one of those last night!  Well, what I think you might be talking about (links don't show anything, hollow body?).  Never heard of them til then!  Any good?

Also; unnamed walnutish P bass, maybe a Kay, definitely weighted more than the guilt I felt for selling it to a mate.  Probably did her a favour though because it made her stop being cheap and buy something a little more usable shortly after =D

  10. Yeah, I have also left stuff in the car tbh but only ever in my drive way with bits out of sight and the boot backed up like you say.  But I also live in the burbs.  But I teach from my house so people can hear bass and drums so I'm an obvious target...

quite clearly you are wrong, why are you visiting drum and guitar forums?

You can't be a real bass player, you must be one of them musicians I keep reading about :)

It's all on facebook, man. I swear, I never see posts about bassists losing their gear. I might make a few screenshots to show I'm not crazy. I mean, I know that obviously we're not immune I just never hear of it.

Started on guitar, preferred the sound and feel of bass, always wanted to play drums but never allowed a kit when younger but eventually ended up drumming in a band I bassed in because he was sh!t (and a massive silly billy) and ended up getting more gigs on drums so stuck with that a few years before now being mainly on bass again ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
