  1. Bought a guitar multi-fx pedal from Brian. Dead straightforward transaction. The pedal was posted straight away and was very well packaged.

Tracking number was supplied and communication was excellent.

    Entirely trustworthy and highly recommended.

So whats the best combo for accordian? I know, anything as long as its off! Didn't stop roland making a £4k V-Accordian though.

Actually the Ampeg A15, also available for bass as the B15. Who'd have thunk it.

    I wouldn't trust a 500w RMS rating on a 210 unless it was a very expensive one.

Is how to arrange two 210 cabs. You hear it far better and so does the audience when it's playing to the room.

200w through those Eden cabs should make plenty of noise.

Good luck with your search for some well priced used stuff.

Yeah but you don't want eliptical speakers.

Complete opposite here. Played an original Ray from 79 thru 91 and was never really happy. Heavy, kinda thin sounding. Been playing P's since I got back into it in 2000 and couldnt be happier. Funny ole world.

Same here. I have flirted with Rays over a number of years - starting with a 78. They just don't work for me. The sound just seems to disappear as you play the upper strings. Probably down to me, but I'll stick with a P-bass or two.

A couple of years ago I decided to part with my beloved late 60’s Marshall 1974 18 watt combo.

I bought it for £45 in Shipley West Yorkshire around 1976, and it was my first ‘proper’ guitar amp.

A vintage dealer made me an offer I couldn’t refuse, and what with Covid and stuff making my

finances a bit tight, I just thought it was time. It got shipped to Australia and then on to Hawaii

to it’s new owner, Kirk Hammet.

( I was promised a video of him playing the ‘Greeny’ Les Paul into it, but never chased it up -

maybe I should drop Kirk a reminder. )

A mate of mine had one of those. 2x12 and just volume and tone controls. He played a Grimshaw Les Paul through it, and I have never heard a better guitar sound.

I know that. The info I offered was the luthier that changed the fretboard, why it was changed and the significance of the inlay. I also included before and after photos. I thought all of this info would be appreciated by the new owner. However, as I say I wish I hadn’t bothered and I will take this thread as a learning curve. Sorry for taking up bandwidth unnecessarily.

In fairness (though I doubt it would be seen in this way) I would have thought that is more likely to be disclosed to those making an enquiry, or even upon a sale. Other basses offered don't have a comprehensive history in the blurb.

Anyhow, my turn to waste bandwidth.

  7. I confess to having a rack setup.

    Unnecessary power conditioner

    Tuner

    Main amp

    Spare amp

In the back are a mains distribution unit and an isolated signal splitter to feed the inputs into the amps.

    Not too hefty and convenient.

My only complaint is that the cabs are slightly thinner so the sides slightly overhang.

Just wish they'd learn to solder and tidy up the cable spaghetti they've all got going on in the backs of these racks.

This was mentioned in an interview with Brian May's tech. He explained that nice, tidy cable runs were a nightmare when something went wrong. Untethered cables can be changed quickly.

I’d forgotten about meeting Jeff Rich. For the last few years of my working career I was a teaching assistant in a primary school. The headteacher had a social connection with Jeff and got him to come in and give a drumming demo to the kids. He also bought a ton of percussion items and generously let them bash around with them. As you say, a really nice bloke. Over a cuppa we chatted about music and he said ‘shame you didn’t bring your bass in, we could have had a good old jam for the kids.’ The nearest I got to playing with Status Quo. 😆

He was also awesome in Stretch.

  10. I have had the honour of playing with David Gilmour, Ronnie Spector, Dave Mattacks and a few other rather better names than myself.

Before then, when in a band in Brighton, I shared the stage (pub floor) with a young chap, a very fine player (rather obsessed with Dave Weckl) who went on to be the drummer in an outfit called Bush. I don't think they did much here but they sure did in the US. Robin Goodridge. Nice guy and excellent drummer.

Weird! We were there last week and had a completely different room - the green room in the adjacent theatre.

This was a house just down the road. Unhappily, the sofa wasn't the colour specified on our rider. 🙂

Having worked at Vodafone UK HQ in Newbury a good few years back, I can fully believe that.

At that time there were a number of billing platforms with all sorts of weird and wonderful tariffs on them. These billing platforms were not compatible with each other. The Consumer and the Business departments didn't work together. There were a number of special tariffs for bulk buying resellers (virtual networks) like Tesco Mobile and the like. These pricings actually undercut the Business prices and caused endless issues.

Oh and of course Vodafone Global HQ was in the same complex in Newbury. Lots of infighting and of course corporate climbers throwing colleagues under the bus so they could crawl a bit further up the ladder.

I think the other main networks weren't much better.

Late to the party. I was the VAT Manager for Vodafone Global for a few years. Very odd place to work.

Jings Steve you lead an exciting lifestyle, living on the edge with murderers. Anything else you haven't told us about that we should know. :laugh1:

    Dave

That one is a bit extreme, I grant you. Generally, I do my best to stay well away from excitement.

  14. I depped with a band some years ago. One of the guitarists was done for murder, and storing his poor victim at a self storage place. He also 'visited' the place until asked to clear the space because of the smell. He got 30 years.
