  1. I'm sorry but you are going to have to provide more information before anyone makes contact. You want serious buyers, you should show yourself to be a serious seller.

It's a lovely bass, for sure, but I woud doubt anyone will be interested without the other informatuon that has been suggested. The effort will be worth it, I'm sure.

    Apologies if that sounds harsh.

At some point the Jools Holland and Glastonbury threads will merge.

How many years of complaining about the mix or the acts do people endure before they realise it's not compulsory or legally binding to watch either of them?

Or follow the threads maybe? 🙂

I’ve played most of the range of Fender basses. For me, Fender Japan puts together the most consistent instruments and they represent the best value for money. Other opinions may vary, of course.

For me, this. The Japanese Fenders are consistently well manufactured instruments.

As for the more expensive variants, I haven't really tried many, as I've not been in the market for one.

I would expect my SVLs are easily on a par with the Custom Shop. I really only got those because Simon (Law, the man who makes them) asked me if he could make me a bass.

They replaced the two Japanese PB70US basses I was using at the time. Should have kept them.

Would particularly like my ash bodied one back.

Question to anyone who's been, and been to one of the main stages. How annoying are the flags? It just looks like, in some places all you'll see is the back of a flag, or sea of poles.

One appears to simply says tits.

  5. Do it. Just do it.

I ummed and ahhed about going digital for ages and finally took the plunge. Why didn't I do it before?

Do be prepared for a bit of a learning curve, and the on-screen layout is different for Windows, IoS and Android (for some reason) but it has been a game changer for our gigging experience. Everything has inproved significantly. The sound of the band has improved and we are delighted. We pretty much threw up some microphones to record a gig (USB into the computer running the recording software) and the sound quality was astonishing.

Some good tutorials on YouTube, and plenty of great advice here too. You won't look back.

  6. Just use it as is. I can undertand the ABBA folk doing their best to look right but I would question the need for anyone else. Rutger may have wished his Jazz was the colour of yours (not far removed from his Hagstrom, by the way).

His was also a dot neck. Are you changing that? If not, you're not authentic. Personally, play it as it is and save yourself the money (and the time without it). I played in a very good ABBA tribue with a 75 black Jazz with pearl blocks on the maple neck.

Up to you, of course, but why bother?

  7. A band I play in played at this small venue in Southsea last Fridy night. Blazing hot load in and subsequent load out. Very few people about and so a very low turnout.

Long stort short (as you will have guessed, I bet), the lady is refusing to pay the band any money at all (a fee was agreed in writing). She was pleasant on the night and watched as we played all evening, presumably having decided she wasn't going to pay us anything. I will be going to the Small Claims Court, but any locals who may get a gig there, I would be inclined to not play there.

  8. I was a Worthing resident around this time, and Graham made me an exceptional 62 Precision. I also 'liberated' a lovely Les Paul that he had made, that was caught up with the demise of Broadway Music.

I don't immediately recognise a bass player called Peter, but I can ask my chums from that era.

Graham is a wonderful guy and exceptional luthier. I remember being at his home and him showing me a gorgeous early 60's Strat that he had made two weeks earlier.

This was early 80's and well before relicing was a 'thing'. It looked absolutely genuine to me.

I'll happily forgo a fancy holiday for a lovely bass I will treasure for a life time.

    Each to their own eh?

Indeed, the best bass I bought for 260 quid will pay for a few holidays for my eldest when she gets her mitts on it (and I have no more use for it).

  10. I do occasionally, but not often. I had my SVL basses made as exact copies of my 66 Precision (excepting the colour) so I didn't take it out on the road.

It comes along to some local gigs but I tend to use one of my other basses primarily. That will include pub gigs.

  11. I suspect people will want far more information than that.

Weight, nut width, maybe an assessment of fret wear. These would be the very least.

My '71 also has the non-logo case. Apparently cases were sourced separately at the time.

Lovely looking bass, for sure, but more information would help you reach serious buyers.

I might also heed the scam warnings and put your username on a card and photograph it under the strings of the bass too.

  12. Indeed. We're at the stage where we can set everything up, bit of a tweak of the main vocal and we're good to go.

Everyone controls their monitor mix but that's not really needed now.

If anyone is teetering on investing and is nervous about the leap into the dark, I say leap. It's an absolute game changer and the band has improved, sonically, a huge amount.

Wish I'd gone straight for that option.

Part of this comes down to how you view relationships online and with Basschat members.

As part of a community here I’d consider people to be friends and expect them to treat me that way.

(I remember when my band started. York5stringer gave me a £500 PA and told me to send him the money when I had it. That’s from a  person I’d never met and had only ever interacted with virtually.)

If you consider us all as individuals with a virtual relationship and no moral responsibilities to one another, then it’s fair game.

Each opinion is valid. I subscribe to the former if I’m honest, but I’m knowingly quite naive.

I am exactly the same. With one notable exception, I think of everyone here as a chum and hope I treat everyone accordingly.

I'm reminded of a local store that was offered a wonderful old Hiwatt stack, by a widow, at a silly price but insisted on paying a fair one instead.

I have PM'd sellers in the past to suggest their price is possibly low.

As stated, we all have our own (valid) view.

Thank goodness it's not just me. I'm not running a business where profit is a factor.

Me neither. I mentally depreciate anything to zero when I buy it, and just want it gone when deciding to move it on.

Guess I'm not destined to be a millionaire.

  15. I confess that I do nothing really. I do walk regularly but that's not specifically to stay in shape for gigs.

I gig pretty regularly and don't have any mobility issues. I use lightweight gear now, but more because it's more convenient rather than lighter.

As for practise, I haven't really ever practised, other than to learn new songs.

I'd probably be half decent if I'd made any effort at all.
