  1. So, as other local bands are playing Hungry like the wolf this is off the set list, I fear I may have bitten off more than I can chew with it's replacement Girls on film... Wowsers there is a lot going on with the bass, I think I may have to dedicate a day at the weekend to nailing this song.

      A worthy challenge.

May the frets rise up to meet you.

  2. Not everyone has the cash to drop on a Fender so why not give people options depending on what they can afford?
  3. This is a fantastic move by Fender, the player series were getting silly price wise (£700+ for an entry level Fender is just silly) so to see these for around the £550 mark is good.
  4. Wow that is beautiful, what a fantastic looking bass, let me know if you ever decide to move it on.
  5. A picture of my Les Paul shaped bass, a Gretsch junior jet ii bass that my wife bought me. Would be interested to find out what other short scale Les Paul basses there are out there
  6. Hungry like the wolf is definitely trickier than it sounds, not necessarily on a technical level just that bass rhythm during the verse, there is some odd syncopation going on, tempted to just mirror the guitar riff.

I'm sure you can improvise something better than that without killing the guitar riff.  I have every confidence in you.

  7. My wallet is safe, I would have to give up eating for several months to afford one of those.
  8. You will likely need medium scale due to the extra length of the tailpiece.
  9. I found them a very tight fit,I was able to get the E string on by very slowly pushing just enough of the string through the tuner to be able to wind it but it was a tight fit.
  10. Hi Does anyone here have any experience with hard cases for Junior jet ii basses? Most of the ones I have seen have been out of stock I am guessing this one will fit - tweed casebut it does not explicitly say what Gretsch basses/guitars it fits and I live in a small flat with limited courier options so I could do without the hassle of having to return a case if it does not fit Any advice welcome, thank you
  11. I already have a Junior jet ii bass but wow this is gorgeous Gretsch streamliner jet bass
  12. Don't suppose anyone has tab for the bass solo in Regret by New order ? Thanks

The odd note missing here or there but I reckon this'll get you most of the way there https://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/tab/new-order/regret-bass-1061284

      Thank you, much appreciated

  13. Yeah I tried this set and I found them way too stiff, they sounded great but they were painful to play, they lasted all of 2 days.
  14. Learning Can you dig it by the Mock Turtles for band practice, not technically difficult but a surprising amount of little nuances to this bass line, will try and nail it but might have to approximate it.

I have every confidence in you if you put in the work.

Thank you, I think I just need to nail the rhythm in the chorus, the other bits are not spot on to the original but they are close enough to work.

Ok, progress at last, I can't say I can play it just like the recording, I have my own approximation of the bass line but I have at last managed to make it through the entire song.

  15. That's a nice problem to have. I currently have a Gretsch junior jet ii and a bass I put together from parts, would love another bass but don't really have the space so it will have to wait until I have shifted the parts bass (the Gretsch is staying)
  16. When I had a Hofner if I was struggling with a song I used to switch the Bass slider switch on, instant mud that means no-one can tell when you botched a note or six. I feel I should also mention that they are actually surprisingly articulate basses with the Bass slider off and both pickups on.
  17. Hi Anyone have any experience with a brand by the name of Groove? This could either be a great bargain or an expensive mistake, not pulled the trigger on one of these but tempted Groove bass
  18. Looking at the price of these they seem to be selling for £900+ , nice looking bass but no way I would blind buy at that price, you could get a Vintera P bass for that price.
  19. Good choice, a couple of things to note 1. Make sure your get the Hofner specific set 2. The winding is quite long, it is absolutely normal and not an issue for some of the string to wrap around the tuning post, take your time with fitting the E string and you will be fine.
  20. Honestly because of the scale length and the small tuners you are a bit restricted, Labella or TI (the Hofner sets for both) are both very good, the TI's being more articulate and the Labellas being thumper. When I used a Hofner I started on the Labellas but ended up using Thomastik infield as the lower tension suited me better.
  21. I second this about the dead E string, deadest I have heard on a set of flats.
  22. I was not a fan, I like the Rotosound and Daddario tapes but when I tried the Labellas I found my bass got absolutely buried in the mix, literally none of my notes were distinguishable, embarrassingly I found this out when I went to a jam night on the same night that I changed my strings, the one event where you are completely relying on your ears.
  23. The other thing you could do is wire them in series with each other, that will give you a super beefy dark tone, they might be fine though with the tone rolled back, they have decent low end.
  24. You don't want the Ultra jazz pickup, great pickups but bright and scooped, model J is what you want.
  25. Gorgeous bass, how is the tone? Is the neck pickup similar to one of the Gibson mudbuckers?
